⚡🇨🇳 Chinese manufacturers have started shifting production to other countries to avoid new US duties imposed by Donald Trump, the Financial Times reports. The response to the imposed duties of 10 per cent on Chinese exports could be an increase in countermeasures such as higher tariffs, export controls and devaluation of the yuan. The Chinese government's initial response was restrained. However, following Trump's trade agreement with Canada and Mexico and an announced phone call with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Beijing remained hopeful for negotiations. Meanwhile, the duties went into effect today, Chinese companies, especially in southern industrial areas, have begun shifting some production to other countries, including the Middle East. |
