⚡Argentina intends to reclaim the Malvinas Islands from the United Kingdom following the agreement between the UK and Mauritius to return the Chagos Archipelago to the island republic. This was stated by Argentina’s Foreign Minister, Diana Mondino. Earlier, the governor of the Falklands stated that the UK has no plans to relinquish sovereignty over the archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean in light of the Chagos handover to Mauritius.

⚡Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev issued a warning to Yerevan and France: I warn Armenia, stop these dangerous games! On the one hand, they talk about peace, they lie, on the other hand, they carry out large-scale armament. Who gives them weapons? France and other anti-Azerbaijani countries. Why are they given these weapons for free? No matter how hard they try, nothing will work. Today, they should leave the South Caucasus alone, surrender, go and do their own thing, sort out their problems, wash away their bloody past and try to wash away their sins. ⚡Britain on Thursday said it would give up sovereignty of a remote Indian Ocean archipelago to Mauritius but will maintain there a strategic military base that it shares with the United States, in what US President Joe Biden described as a “historic agreement”. The British government has been under pressure for decades to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, a former colony, but has resisted because of the military base on Diego Garcia island that plays a key role for US operations in the Indian Ocean and Gulf. “For the first time in more than 50 years, the status of the base will be undisputed and legally secure,” the UK foreign ministry said. A joint British-Mauritian statement said the base would remain open on an “initial” 99-year lease. Biden hailed the continuation of the base on Diego Garcia — the largest island in the chain — which was notably used during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The base is used by US long range bombers and ships. “I applaud the historic agreement and conclusion of the negotiations,” Biden said, adding that the site “plays a vital role in national, regional, and global security”. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he spoke to his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth, who later said that the deal showed how a small country can “win justice against major powers”. “Today, 56 years after our independence, our decolonisation is complete. Now our national anthem can sound out even louder across our territory,” he added. |

We have built it to this extent so let us try to protect it. Bible quotes, Quoranic quotes or quotes from the Torah are what I term religious. There was a time nearly 3 pages was used to argue Bible passages. In a foreign affairs thread.... imagine that. There's nothing wrong in deviating from topic once in a while but 3 pages?? Haba na I'm a Christian but look at all the groups I support, are they Christian groups? No. Have you seen me talking about scriptures from the bible? No Because I respect other religions, and don't want to rub my views on anyone's face. There are many others who haven't deviated from the original topic of discussion for once, kudos to them 👏🏻 I'm only afraid that posts here might draw the attention of the authorities and the mods will have no choice but to close the thread. ⚡Ukraine said Thursday that it had opened its first recruitment office in Poland aiming to enlist citizens for its fight against Russia’s invasion. The move comes as Kyiv is scrambling to bolster its troop ranks as it tries to stave off Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine’s east in February 2022. The office in Lublin, around 100 kilometres (60 miles) from the Ukrainian border, has “all the necessary equipment” to determine if volunteers are apt for service, Ivan Gavryliuk, a Ukrainian deputy defence minister, said in a statement. “After enlistment, training of volunteers will take place” in Poland, he said. ⚡The United States announced the seizure on Thursday of 41 internet domains allegedly used by Russian intelligence agents to try to gain access to the computers and email accounts of Pentagon, State Department and other US government employees. “The Russian government ran this scheme to steal Americans’ sensitive information, using seemingly legitimate email accounts to trick victims into revealing account credentials,” Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said in a statement. According to the Justice Department, the domains were used as part of “an ongoing and sophisticated spear-phishing campaign” by the so-called “Callisto Group,” an operational unit within Center 18 of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). Among those targeted were US-based companies, former employees of the US intelligence community, former and current Department of Defense and Department of State employees, and staff at the Department of Energy. The Justice Department said Microsoft had simultaneously filed a civil action to seize 66 internet domains allegedly used by the Callisto Group, which the US software giant calls “Star Blizzard.” Microsoft said Star Blizzard, between January 2023 and August 2024, had targeted more than 30 civil society organizations -– journalists, think tanks, and non-governmental organizations — with spear-phishing campaigns. Two alleged Callisto members were indicted by US authorities in December and charged with hacking into computer networks in the United States, the United Kingdom, other NATO countries and Ukraine. Neither man is in custody and both are believed to be in Russia. |
