Having a government shutdown will put each of them in serious danger. The Democrats are cancelling the pro-Trump hardliners in the GOP who settled for the new man thinking that he will be a hardliner
"I believe the electoral umpire has done well with all these challenges and I want to believe that this is one of the best elections they have ever conducted where the BVAS has been brought into full test."
Governor Douye Diri has hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the conduct of the Bayelsa State Governorship Election, saying it was credible.
Diri defeated his closest rival Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to win a second term in office as the leader of the coastal state.
About one day after INEC declared him as the winner of the fiercely-contended poll, Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) commended the electoral umpire for organising a fair contest in spite of the challenges it faced during the exercise.
“The conduct of the election sincerely could be adjudged to be free, fair, and transparent,” he said on Tuesday’s edition of Channels Televisions’ Politics Today. “But it is a human effort so it could not be a perfect one. There were challenges”.
“Be that as it may, I believe the electoral umpire has done well with all these challenges and I want to believe that this is one of the best elections they have ever conducted where the BVAS has been brought into full test,” he noted.
Part of the challenges, he said, is the state’s terrain which is totally different from Kogi and Imo states where off-cycle governorship elections were also held at the same time.
“When there was that hue and cry about a delay in releasing results, those of us from the state, we understand that it was not that easy for elections to be conducted and results will stream in the way they could have like in Imo or in Kogi,” Diri added.
“But that apart, we also had challenges; we are aware of the boat mishap and so election has to be conducted the following day.”
“So, a few of those challenges that had led to the delay and I think a lot of people became very curious and suspicious about the release of the results and final declaration,” the governor said.
But now that the election is over, Governor Diri is setting his sights on governance.

At least 2,000 dead and 10,000 believed missing in Libya as ‘catastrophic’ flooding breaks dams and sweeps away homes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMtgfqNx1Pk?si=mPU4EfVuuf5DUXGz Around 2,000 people have died and 10,000 are believed missing after Storm Daniel dumped so much rain on Libya’s northeast that two dams collapsed sending water flowing into already inundated areas.
“The death toll is huge and around 10,000 are reported missing,” Tamer Ramadan, head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) delegation in Libya, said Tuesday during a press briefing in Geneva.
As many as 6,000 people are missing from the eastern city of Derna alone, Othman Abduljalil, health minister in Libya’s eastern parliament-backed government, told Libya’s Almasar TV.
Abduljalil toured Derna on Monday, describing parts of it as a “ghost town.”
“The situation was catastrophic… The bodies are still lying in many places,” Abduljalil told Libya’s Almasar TV.
“There are families still stuck inside their homes and there are victims under the rubble… I expect people have been washed away into the sea, and tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, we’ll find many of them,” he said.

PRESIDENT TINUBU SECURES LANDMARK DEAL WITH UNITED ARAB EMIRATES ACROSS SECTORS; VISA BAN ON NIGERIAN TRAVELERS IS LIFTED IMMEDIATELY
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Monday in Abu Dhabi, have finalized a historic agreement, which has resulted in the immediate cessation of the visa ban placed on Nigerian travelers.
Furthermore, by this historic agreement, both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines are to immediately resume flight schedules into and out of Nigeria, without any further delay.
As negotiated between the two Heads of State, this immediate restoration of flight activity, through these two airlines and between the two countries, does not involve any immediate payment by the Nigerian government.
In recognition of President Tinubu's economic development diplomacy drive and proposals today presented by President Tinubu to his counterpart, an agreed framework has been established, which will involve several billions of U.S. dollars worth of new investments into the Nigerian economy across multiple sectors, including defense, agriculture and others, by the investment arms of the Government of the United Arab Emirates.
Additionally, President Tinubu is pleased to have successfully negotiated a joint, new foreign exchange liquidity programme between the two Governments, which will be announced in detail in the coming weeks.
In conclusion, the President wishes to commend the UAE President, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for his unalloyed friendship and his determined effort to join hands with him to fully normalize and reset to excellence, the standard of relations between the two important countries.
