Computer errors are very common and most of the time they are easy to fix. The first thing I ask people when they come to me about a computer error is, "Have you tried restarting the computer?" I know it sounds like a stupid question, but sometimes people don't think of this. They just continue to try to get the computer to do what they want. If you are having a problem with something like the printer not printing or you can't connect to the internet, the first thing to try is a reboot. If you leave your computer on 24/7 without restarting it, it may eventually get temperamental. It will throw a tantrum and refuse to do what you ask of it. Give your computer a break and shut it down when you are not using it. This will save on your electric bill too. That is always a plus, right? If you restarted your computer by clicking restart and it didn't fix the problem, then shut down the computer and then turn it back on. If neither of these things fixes the problem then the next thing to do will depend on the actual problem. Below I will list several common problems and how you might be able to fix them. 1. Computer won't power up - Try plugging the computer into another outlet. Sometimes for some reason or another, the outlet that the computer is plugged into will cause interference or just isn't working correctly. If you don't hear any fans running when you start the computer up, then you may need a new power supply or worse, a new motherboard. 2. A pop up constantly pops up on your computer telling you that you have a virus - Do not download this software. It is a scam. You will need to use a anti-spyware program to remove the malware that is causing this problem. Spybot and Malwarebytes are free and work pretty well. If anti- spyware doesn't work then you may need a program that is specifically made to remove it. If you can see the name of the software in the pop up, you can Google the name and find a remover for it. Or you can Google the message that you get and find it that way. 3. A program has frozen up and won't close - On the keyboard, hold down the ctrl , alt and delete keys (in that order) and quickly release them. The task manager will open. Click on the processes tab and find the name of the program that is frozen. Click on it and then click on the end process button at the bottom right side of the window. You can use the application tab to remove it, but usually it won't work unless you close it from the processes tab. 4. Software you just installed won't load - This could be a compatibility problem. If you installed software that is normally meant to run on Windows XP and you have Windows 7, then it may not run. Try this before uninstalling it. Find the software icon on your desktop (if there isn't an icon, then make a shortcut for the software on your desktop). Right click the icon and choose properties. Now click on the compatibility tab near the top of the window. Put a check mark beside "run the program in compatibility mode" and choose which Windows operating system it needs to run under. Click OK. Try running the software again and if it doesn't work, you may need to run the program under administrative rights. Go back to the properties window and at the bottom put a check beside "run this program as an administrator". If you are not the administrator of the computer, then you might not be able to choose this option. 5. "Blue Screen of Death" (Stop Error) - This is an error that shows up on your computer as a blue screen with white letters. It tends to freak people out a little, I know it did me the first time I saw it. This is just an error message that stops windows from running. Pay attention to the code that shows up with the error and research it to find out exactly what the error is from. Restarting your computer could fix this error. If it shows up every time you start your computer, then you may have a hardware problem. For instance, faulty memory (ram) could cause this error. A corrupt windows file could also bring up this error and you may need to reinstall Windows or run Windows repair. Here is a link to read more about Windows Startup Repair . 6. No internet connection (wired) - This could be caused by several things. First, make sure all of your connections to your modem, router and computer are securely connected. If these are all connected properly, unplug the modem, router and the Ethernet wire from the computer and wait 30 seconds. Plug everything back in starting with the modem. Wait for the modem to load and then plug the router back in. After those are running, plug the Ethernet wire back into the computer. If that didn't work, you can right-click your internet icon and choose diagnose and repair. If that option isn't there, right- click it and chose "open network and sharing center". Click on the name of your internet connection and then click on diagnose. A window will pop that will try to figure out why you can't connect. Sometimes this works, but I have found that most of the time it doesn't. If the above options don't work, unplug the modem, router and shut down the computer. Unplug the power connector and Ethernet wire from the computer. Hold down the power button on the computer for 30 seconds. Plug the modem and router back in and wait for them to load. Plug the Ethernet and power wire back into the computer. Boot it up and see if your internet is working. If so, do the happy dance. If not, then you may need to replace your Ethernet wire. If you have replaced the wire then contact your internet provider and ask them if there is a problem. It could be that you have a faulty modem or router. It could also be that you will need to replace your Ethernet card. If you have a laptop with a wireless connection and restarting your computer didn't work, then try the first two fixes mentioned above. If that doesn't work, try disconnecting it from the internet through the laptop. If you have a wireless switch, turn it off for a few seconds and then turn it back on. You can also disconnect through the icon in the system tray. Click the internet icon and choose disconnect. Reconnect to the internet and see if it is working. If the above tips don't work, call your internet provider. 7. Your computer constantly freezes up, restarts by itself or just shuts down on its own - This is usually caused by a hardware problem, viruses, spyware or corrupt files. The best way to try to fix these problems is to update your anti- virus and spyware software and run a check with each one (not at the same time). If the problem is corrupt files, you can run the Windows repair software. If it is a hardware problem, you may need to call the repair man. Regular maintenance is the best way to keep your computer running correctly. You need to keep your antivirus and anti- spyware software up to date and always running. You can also run defrag to help your computer run more efficiently. Read more about defragging here . Make sure that you aren't using a high percentage of your hard drive space. Windows needs room to run smoothly. Also make sure there aren't a lot of unnecessary programs running when your computer starts up. If you are using a lot of memory to run programs then your computer may lag and freeze up. You can use Task Manager to see how much memory your programs are using. Just click on the performance tab. - See more at: http://www.xaliuarena.com/2014/08/7-computer-errors-and-fixes-to-try.html#sthash.dfisnNik.dpuf |

SUM OF US ARE ALREADY AWARE OF THIS Each Android device is a little different. It's the double-edged sword of a highly customizable operating system - it inevitably becomes highly customized. Device makers often spend a great deal of time crafting a software experience distinct from what you can get elsewhere. So every Android phone and tablet has its own unique UI quirks and foibles. If you don’t dig a phone’s interface as designed by the manufacturer, you can change it. Doing so used to require installing a custom ROM, but now you don’t need to go to nearly so much trouble. If you can gain root access (which is not difficult on most devices) the software experience can be extensively tweaked with the Xposed Framework. Getting Xposed set up comes with a few risks, but it’s considerably faster and safer than flashing a custom ROM. More like this 4 Android apps that put SMS on your desktop 10 Google Play tips and tricks every Android user should know The no-freakout guide to Android security Backup and prepare Before you deploy the Xposed Framework on your phone or tablet, there’s some housekeeping to be done. Since there is always a risk in making root-level changes, you want to make sure there are no important files that exist on the device and nowhere else. Just upload them to a cloud storage service or transfer them to a computer. Even though Xposed carries less risk than flashing ROMs, it’s a good idea to do a full system backup. Since this is a root operation, you probably already have a custom recovery sitting on your device—most rooting methods require this. Before installing Xposed, make a system image backup. Before monkeying around with Xposed Framework, you'll want to back up your phone. Common rooting tools TWRP and ClockworkMod have a top-level menus for backups, so just accept the defaults and let the recovery do its thing. This process takes five or ten minutes and the resulting file can be quite large, depending on how much system data you have. You’ll want to keep the backup on the device at least until Xposed is up and running, so it's easier to restore if something goes haywire. Better safe than sorry, right? Once you’ve covered your rear end, grab the Xposed installer from the official site. Xposed isn't hosted in Google Play, so you need to enable Unknown Sources in the Security settings. Just save the APK for Xposed to your phone's internal storage. Installation and modules Xposed itself is not an app, but the installer is. Just launch the APK to deploy the framework in your /system directory. The process only takes a few minutes and will require a reboot afterward. Xposed is compatible with almost all current phones, provided you have root access. The reboot after installation is the real test, though. If something goes wrong, your device might get stuck in a boot loop. If that happens, boot back into recovery mode (turn off your phone, then turn it on holding Power and Volume Up simultaneously) and restore the backup you made earlier. That should get you operational so you can try again. More than likely, everything will be fine and your device will reboot with Xposed running and ready. The Xposed Framework by itself doesn't do much; you load in modules to customize your device. Xposed by itself doesn’t actually do anything—all the modifications are handled by modules you plug into Xposed. Modules can be sideloaded just like the installer or downloaded from the Xposed GUI, which you can access from the app drawer. There are also some modules distributed in Google Play. When you install a module, it needs to be enabled in the Xposed module menu. Usually a reboot is necessary as well. When the device boots back up you can make changes to Android’s UI and features in real time—no more rebooting required. With a few modules, you can get all the features of the best ROMs without modifying any system files! Anyone with a stock Android device (Nexus and Google Experience devices) should grab GravityBox. This single module offers a huge number of customizations from the lock screen to the Quick Settings drop-down, and a lot more. The GravityBox app is organized as a simple series of menus, so you can just peruse and make the changes you want. Some of the more useful alterations include replacing the stock battery meter with a numeric circle icon, adding tiles and rearranging the Quick Settings drop-down, and adding reboot options to the power menu. Changing tiles in the Quick Settings menu. For users of non-stock Android phones, the capabilities of Xposed might be even more intriguing. If Samsung’s TouchWiz or HTC’s Sense layers don’t include the features you want, there are modules to change them. Wanam Xposed is a module designed for phones like the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 with features similar to GravityBox—it aggregates a ton of useful mods into one package. It includes (among other things) the ability to change the color and transparency of UI elements, universal Multi-Window support, and the option to disable Samsung’s excessive persistent notifications. HTC One users can grab the Sense 5 Toolbox for an assortment of mods, including some stock Android tweaks to replace the heavily skinned Sense ones. There are also Xposed modules that can be installed to almost any device, providing only one or two very specific tweaks. For instance, there is Tinted Status Bar, which changes the color of your status bar to match the UI of the app you’re in. So if you open Google Play Music, that bright orange color will extend up to the status bar. If you don’t care for the icons used on your device, the Unicon module can change them system wide without replacing the launcher. You can even make your status bar match the background color. On the more utilitarian side of things, there is AppOpsXposed, which brings back the native App Ops UI recently removed by Google. Are you tired of that wireless charging notification sound? Lucky for you there’s a module called Wireless Charging Xposed that lets you modify it. Almost anything you can think of can add to the stock ROM on your device in a few moments. You can always go home Xposed lets you assemble exactly the features and UI elements you want on your phone, and you don’t have to deal with flashing a ROM. That’s certain to save you a headache, but there is another big advantage to Xposed. It only takes a few taps to disable everything and get back to the stock interface. All traces of Xposed on the system can be wiped just by tapping uninstall in the Xposed settings. Try doing that with ROMs! Maybe the best thing about Xposed, you can undo everything! All the changes in Xposed are softmods—that is, they reside in active memory and do not modify any system files. That’s why you can make changes with a module on the fly and see the effects without a reboot. If you disable your modules and uninstall Xposed, everything is back to normal after a reboot. This kind of flexibility is important for OTA updates—your phone or tablet can be updated normally after you’ve disabled the Xposed modules. If you install a ROM to customize your phone, it is up to you to flash updated builds of that ROM to your device when they're availble. With Xposed, you can get virtually any feature you want in the stock ROM, and still get the officiall Rom intact culled from http://www.xaliuarena.com/2014/06/tweak-your-android-phone-without.html |
