I'm not slating it, it's hybrid release obviously hurt it's B.O that's why I'm not saying it flopped or whatever...I'm just saying theatrical release wise, it wasn't a success...Kong Vs Zilla had the same circumstances and came out tops.. Obviously, Kong had a franchise backing it but I think I've passed my point...
Well, you're right because the movie didn't break even ( which is between $412.5M to $495M going with 2.5x to 3x multiplier of it's $165M budget). If it had grossed even, it would have been a success albeit a medium grosser.

But anyway, commercially in general, it was a success.

And just to add something, 3.9 million in it's first 30 days is not outstanding...It would be decent, but not outstanding..
But I get your point...
It's not outstanding but ZSJL with a 3.7M household views after 37 to 39 days of it's release on HBO MAX is applaudable. Great

Note, emphasis is on HBO MAX, so don't go about bringing up streaming stats from other platform because even Dune did well on other streaming and PVOD platforms as well. So stay on track, don't digress from the argument.

Also don't forget, Dune by march had 5.3M household views on HBO MAX despite it's exploits on other streaming and PVOD platforms.

Theatrically, not streaming. Better still, let me change it to ; Dune wasn't a success theatrically....
Some Dune industry analyst view below.

Before you make conclusions, consider covid-19 and HBO MAX factors first. How many films under that Circumstances will gross high.

They're a lot of analysis you have to consider before making conclusions about a movie performance. If Dune was exclusively released in theaters that would have been an entirely different thing but Dune was released both in theaters and on HBO MAX. Everybody knows that it's HBO MAX hybrid release will definitely affect it's BO just like GvK, MK, Conjuring 3, Matrix 4 and TSS. Not to talk of the piracy that such will ensure. It's very easy to pirate a streaming film thanks to screen recording technology.

So it's very comical when someone claims that with all this factors, Dune with a $400.7M gross is a failure. Even industry analyst don't think so, not after they've analyse the factors involve.

They're so many things you must put into consideration before making conclusions on the BO performance of a movie. Just dropping conclusions without considering the factors, to me isn't smart.

If you still think Dune is a theatrical failure, then so be it but always have it at the back of your mind that the Industry Analyst don't share that view and this guys understand the PRINCIPLES THAT GOVERNS THE SYSTEM

Dune didn't do well theatrically..
A movie that grossed over $400M despite covid-19 and hybrid HBO MAX release didn't do well commercially?

Going with covid-19 and HBO MAX hybrid release, Dune was a commercial success. Even the industry analyst acknowledge that. So I don't get what you're saying.

Below are it's streaming and PVOD stats, just for addition.

You don't get it. There's bound to be reshoots, then there's the promotion, Ezra Miller left as the character could affect the film's image and BO. He can't attend any red carpet event for the film right now. It's double standard if he isn't recast now since the film isn't completed considering Johnny Depp was fired over something that had no clear evidence.
The dude should go. He is a liability for the project and the brand. If he was a black guy and not Jewish, he would have been fired since.
So everything boils down to political correctness and sentiments. WONDERFUL.

"Johnny Depp was fired so he should be fired"
"It's unfair, if he was a black or if it was a black man he would have been fired. So he should be fired"
"If they could do what they did to Ray Fisher, he shouldn't be exempted. He should be fired"
"If they could hold on on Batfleck during his alcoholic issues, then they should fire Ezra because of this"
"If he wasn't Jewish or it wasn't a Jew that was involved, they would have fired him, so they should fire him"
"If it was a Muslim or Arab, they would have fired him. So fire the mother fvcker"

And on and on and on, the sentiments and political correctness drag on, which to me is BULL SHIT.

As I've earlier said, everything boils down to the nature of things in the production process and arena. If it requires a recast, then they should do that ASAP. If it doesn't, then they shouldn't, they should go with him in the movie and recast him for future projects.

If the production is done and they're no plans for reshoot, then what's the essence for recasting him. Instead of wasting unnecessary time, energy, resource and money. The Ideal thing to do is for WB to recast him for future projects and announce that publicly, not only that, they should also publicly condemn and di-associate themselves from his acts. Also they should use him less during promotion, they're other actors to use, A-list for that matter. There's Keaton, there's Ben Affleck, there's even Sasha. With this they'll wriggle themselves out of the controversies.

So with the above, there's no way the Flash BO performance will be affected because;

*WB have or would have recasted the character for future projects and make it known publicly.
*WB have or would have publicly condemn and di-associate themselves from him.
*Use him less during promotion and rather use Keaton, Affleck and even Sasha more. This is the strategy that James Wan is using in promoting Aquaman. He's using Jason, Patrick, Yahya more and Amber less.
*Besides there's no how people will hate or not see the film all because of Miller when they're other fan favourites in the persons of Affleck and Keaton. I even heard that Cavil, Gadot, Zachary Levi, Gustin and lennix (Martian Manhunter) will be making appearances. So why will the movie be affected all because of Miller when all this fan favourites are present. And aside that, the director, Andy, has good standing with the public.

But if the movie isn't done with production yet and they're plans to reshoot it, then they should recast. That's it.

Everything boils down to the nature of things in the production process and arena. Shikina. We can't just be making assumptions here, when we don't really knows what goes on behind the scenes.

It shouldn't just be about recasting Ezra. The question should be, what are the nature of things in the production process and arena? Is it one that requires a recast or not? If the nature of things requires recasting, then they should do it but if the if doesn't, they should let him be the Flash in the film and then recast him for future projects.

For example, if they're done shooting and there's no plan for a reshoot, why should they recast Miller and shoot his scene with the new actor? That will just be unnecessary waste of time, energy, resources and money. In such a case, they should just go with him as the Flash and recast him for future projects.

But if it's a case where they're not done with the movie or they have plans for intensive reshoot, not just any kind of reshoot but intensive one, then they can or should recast him.

So everything boils down to the nature of things in the production process and arena. It's not just something we can just say they should recast or not.

WarnerMedia as a whole has way too much bureaucratic heads.

DC Films president is Walter Hamada, yet Ann Sarnoff claims Jim Lee is the head of everything DC. Too many duplicate and redundant job positions. Streamlining things is much needed. This many executive inputs is the reason WB has been in turmoil. Too many power moves every few years.

Only WB now has at least 4-5 merger or acquisitions in last 20 yrs.
DC Films is different from DC Entertainment just like Marvel Studio is different from Marvel Entertainment. DC Films was created as a separate division in 2018 to handle all DC Films while DC Entertainment handles other things like comics, games etc.

Jim Lee calls the shot in DC Entertainment while Hamada calls the shot in DC Films and both work together to ensure the DC's Film adaptations.

My own be say they should leave Ann, Killar, Toby, Hamada and Geff. They can remove the rest, I don't give a fvck but if they still choose to sack Ann and Killar, I move.

The people being sacked are not in anyway related to me neither is the company mine or my familys.

Zaslav is free to sack whoseoever he wants to sack, it's his shot but that doesn't mean I support such move but hey, what effect does what I think have anyway. It's not as if my opinion will pass this thread.

But all in all, Zaslav should not go and mess up the DCEU and DC as a whole. He should make that shit works. That's all I want. If he feels, sacking some persons is going to help him achieve that, then no P

As for me I have no problems with the people they have laid off so far....

In my opinion, they're also not assets in current WB hierarchy of importance. Jason Kilar and Ann Sarnoff are people brought by AT&T. Only Andy Forsell is an in-house WB exec.
While I appreciate Jason's work with HBOMax honestly he's no asset.
I've said this a long time ago he was going. He knew that since last year.
Also this upper execs who just lost their jobs are top management guys and are not the creatives or the big brains behind how things work at WB.

The top people who we can call assets at WB presently are Casey Bloys (HBO), Toby Emmerich (WB studios group), Jim Lee (DC comics & Films) and Walter Hamada (DC Films).

True, these laid off people are not the major problem with WB or who created the mess.
Also let's not forget Jason Kilar is the sole reason we have ZSJL. So peeps calling for his head should remember when we were praising him and thought he was the Messiah.

Zaslav ain't no Messiah and he'd be pretty stupid laying off the top assets I just mentioned. The ones he's done so far are merely duplicate jobs that have people who share same position already at Discovery. Discovery has no experience in the film industry like top WB execs so it's in their interest to keep the bright minds and the ones who keeps things rolling.
The AT&T guys were never in core WB management over the years.

As for Geoff Johns, abeg that guy is no asset. He can fvvk off. I still don't know why he's been kept since prolly cos of his past successful work. He's been demoted from WB, DC films and entertainment divisions. He's mainly pushed to the comics department but I don't know how much power he wields now. Prolly under Jim Lee.

Jim can take over all things DC comics and continue close work with Hamada with DCEU slow revival and streak of success.
The focus is on administration not technicality since the people being sacked or about to be sacked are administrators. I call Ann and Killar assets because of their administrative performances ever since they took over in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
The performance of Warner Media since 2019 has been commendable which could be seen in the WM's revenue especially of 2020 and 2021, awards, positivity sorrounding WM's contents, vision and growth of HBO MAX subscribers in 2021, all this amidst controversies and covid-19.

They may not be the technicals behinds the excecutions but from their administrative perspectives, they've tried. Remember, if the administration is bad the technicals will be affected.
They're not perfect either. They've made bad decisions here and there but that doesn't change the fact that they've also made tons and lots of good decisions.

Going with their commendable administrative performances, I don't see the reason why they should be replaced except Zaslav just want to replace them for replacing sake not because there's any good reasons to do so.

As for Geff, he's an asset because of his impressive works whether we like him or not. His works speak for him but that doesn't mean he's not part of the problem. As a matter of fact, he's at the core. As I've already said, the ideal way to handle him is not to sack him, you can't let go of such brain, rather he should be left in the comics division and his power and influence in WB Entertainment, DC Films and DC Entertainment should be restricted.

To me, I think Zaslav should keep the assets (both administrators and technicals). Restore eliminated or lost asset e.g Nolan and Snyder. Get more assets. This is better than going on a sack rampage.

According to Ann, Jim Lee is the one that calls the shot in DC Entertainment and he works hand in hand with Hamada. So Jim Lee is like the Stan Lee of DC while Hamada is like the Kevin Feige of DCEU and DC Film Multiverse while Sam Liu is like the Kevin Feige of DCAMU and DC Animated Multiverse.

After Jason Kilar, Toby is the biggest exec who holds true power at WB and influence decisions on the low.
As I said, I don't know about the power play that goes in behind the scenes.

If they were irreplaceable, they won't be let go bro. It's like Liverpool letting Salah go. I don't think John's is leaving. WB discovery aren't concerned with DC comics as a Comics. Zaslav may have a way he wants to run things that may not fit with those guys. It's like Klopp signing Ronaldo when he knows Ronaldo can't fit his system.
Every human is replaceable. That's why you're a human. The only irreplaceable being in reality is God and even at that people still try to replace Him, so how much more a human.

Because someone or something is replaceable does mean you should replace them or it.

The question is not if they're replaceable, of course the are, rather the question should be, should they be replaced?
The answer to that is dependent on their performance. If they're performance is good, why replace them all for the sake of replacement?

The performance of this executives since 2019/ 2020 when they took over have been good, when you consider Warner Media's revenue in 2019 down to 2021, Awards, positivity sorrounding their contents, visions and HBO MAX subscribers increase in 2021, all this amidst controversies and covid-19.

So if they're good, then why replace them all for the sake of replacement? It doesn't make sense.

Talking about Vision. If they're not in line with Zaslav's vision, then he should make them to be. One thing about executives is they're flexible, so yes, they will adapt and blend. If this is the case, what's the essence of replacing them?

Keep your assets. Bring back eliminated or lost assets. Acquire more assets

I don't understand the assets assets thing you keep hammering here. These same assets, as you called them also have astronomical wages/salaries that it won't be fair on WB financial report/statement to try to shoulder such bills with also the incoming employees (to likely take over their positions). That's not an asset for me in any way, it's a liability.
They have tried, they should go. No b their papa business wey dem go die put. Let's see what the incoming ones can do....
They're assets because they're doing a good job and they make money for the business. The revenue of WM/WB for 2020 and 2021 amidst controversies and covid-19 can attest to that.

If you feel finances to shoulder the executives is going to be a problem, the question should be, are the current executives good? If they are why don't you retain them and forget about the others since you can't involve both at the same time.

Going with Warner Media's performance when you consider it's revenue, awards, positivity sorrounding it's contents and increase in HBO MAX subscribers in 2021, all this amidst covid-19 and controversies, I'll say the current executives are doing a going job and if they're doing a good job, why replace them?

The ideal thing is to keep them and bring in others also and if you don't have the finances to do that, then forget about the others and keep this ones. At least, their performance so far is a justifying reason. The incoming ones, you don't even know if they're going to do well or not. So is it not better you go with the ones that you know are already doing well?

So calling for the sack of this executives, one just want them out, not because there's any tangible reasons to. So one just want them to leave for leaving sake or because one doesn't just like them or because of the Snyder drama or because they refused to restore the SnyderVers. Which are just emotional based reasons and not a rational one.

You don't need to eliminate people to give chances to others rather bring everyone into the system and if there's no finances to shoulder that, then live the already existing ones if they're doing well and forget about the others. What matters is the survival of the business and if the current executives can ensure that, then let them

Her seat na one of the most confusing post at WarnerMedia cos u still got someone like Toby Emmerich who holds similar position and wields more power.
Ann is in charge of WB Entertainment, Toby is in charge of WB pictures.

WB pictures, New Line Cinema, WB interactive, DC Entertainment, DC Films etc are all subsidiaries or divisions of WB Entertainment.

As for who owns more influence, well I don't know the power play that goes on behind the scenes but going with executive positions, Ann is Toby's boss and she calls the shot. Toby, Hamada, Jim Lee, Geff etc all reports to her.

David Zaslav won't be changing anything, unlike the thinking in some corners, because;

*The new DCEU is the Snyderverse but at a larger scale and with some changes

* The new DCEU plan is probably more superior than the Snyder plan which made AT&T, Warner Media and HBO MAX not to mount pressure on WB/DC to restore the Snyderverse despite being aware of it's plan. That same DCEU plan will be presented to David Zaslav and that will also make him chose the new DCEU over the Snyderverse when he sees how superior the new DCEU plan is the Snyder plan, probably.

* WB has moved forward with the reboot in The Flash and Batgirl, there's no how Zaslav will come and cancel that due to the fact that it'll cause a lot of controversy and complications in the franchise.

*Also companies don't just make changes after a merger because they're lots of processes involve especially the changes that deals with movies in production which means The Flash and Batgirl will still produced and that equates still to a rebooted universe.

Yeah, I heard something like that and I also heard that Jurnee Smollet's Black Canary will be in the movie also and it will be directly connected to her own upcoming film.

It seems after the Flash, WB/ DC are going all out with heavy connections in the DCEU, well, that's because The Flash prepares or probably prepares the ground for such. Things will begin to take shape after The Flash. We will begin to understand the whole New DCEU plan.

That's why I've been telling DC Fans, don't criticise what you don't know, why don't you wait for the New DCEU to be officially unveiled before we start criticising it. Snyder's plan is the not the only good plan out there neither is it the best of plans. Don't forget, we were the ones criticising Snyder's plan when we didn't understand it but after ZSJL lots of people started supporting it after they got understanding of it. Same is applicable to the New DCEU plan.

There is a reason why even AT&T, Warner Media and HBO MAX aren't mounting pressures on WB/DC to restore the SnyderVerse despite know of it's plan. There is a reason why they choosed the New DCEU the SnyderVerse. For them to this, it means the New DCEU plan is good and is probably superior to the SnyderVerse.

If you want to change your style of management, you need to change everything. Asset or not, nothing is stagnant. Geoff got the chance cause someone left. Others too need the chance. There could be others who would do things far better than they did. Or more differently. No one is irreplaceable if you are open to flexibility.
Where is it written that the only way to give someone a chance is to eliminate the current person.

WM/WB/DC is massive and can accommodate as many that wants and should be part of the system. You just want Geff out not because he should be out but because you just want him out which is due to the whole Snyder drama. So everything boils down to sentiments.

So instead of eliminating Geff, why don't you keep him and bring back Snyder. Don't you think both brains are needed. Why using those brains, more brains should be added. WM/WB/DC is big enough to accommodate as many as.

As I've stated, keep your assets, restore eliminated asses and expand your assets portfolio by bringing in new ones. That's a wise move rather than just eliminating people.

Also, managerial style doesn't change when you change your management rather managerial style changes due to change in the management vision and style of the head manager. You can change management and the managerial style will still be the same and you can keep your management and still change your managerial style. Why? Because change in managerial style is not dependant on the management personnel's but the vision and management style of the head manager which in this case is the CEO or President.

So you see, the change in management style will be determined by Zaslav's vision and management style and not whether he changes management or not. He is the determining factor here, not the management.

Instead of going on a house cleaning rampage, the smart thing to do is to keep the assets, bring back eliminated assets and acquire new assets.

So what I expect Zaslav to do is acquire new assets, bring back Nolan and Snyder and keep Ann, Killar, Toby, Hamada and Geff.

Under the leadership of Ann and Killar who took over in 2019 and 2020 respectively, WM/ WB made revenues of $30.4B and $35.6B in 2020 and 2021 respectively despite covid-19 and controversies, not only that, they also went on to win multiple Oscars and major awards (WB won seven fvcking Oscars in Oscars 2022, with Dune winning six and will Smith in King Richard winning one). We shouldn't also forget the tremendous growth of HBO MAX in just one year (from less than 20M subscribers in Jan 2021 to 73.8M subscribers at the end of 2021). What about the new shared universe franchises (Dune Universe, Mortal Kombat Universe and The Batman Universe) that have been launched.

Killar and Ann, I must say have done good jobs in WM/ WB despite all the controversies and covid-19. Are these the people Zaslav wants to sack? Instead of sacking them, why don't you keep them, acquire more assets and restore the eliminated or lost ones e.g Nolan and Snyder.

Geff, as I've always said and will continue to say should be left in the comic division and his power and influence should be restricted in WB, DC Entertainment and DC Films.

All these are what I expect Zaslav to do and not to go about sacking. Him choosing to sack, to me, is not a good move, not at all. I just hope it doesn't backfire.
