An engineering firm in Lagos seeks to hire a chartered account. You can find below the job description for the position mentioned.

The Accountant will perform professional and administrative tasks requiring thorough knowledge of departmental operations and functions. Performance will be evaluated on ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Asset Management

· Implementing and monitoring a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recording of fixed assets.

· Conducting periodic physical inventory of fixed assets.

· Responsible for the preparation of audit schedules relating to fixed assets, and assist the auditors in their inquiries.

· Responsible for monitoring fixed asset acquisitions and disposals in the accounting system.

· Responsible for management of the Fixed Asset processes, policies, and procedures

· Responsible for monitoring company expenditures for fixed assets in comparison to the capital budget and management authorizations.

Financial Accounting and Management

· General review of balance sheet accounts.

· Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures

• Preparing monthly account reconciliations

• Documentation of internal controls

· Preparation of a monthly account analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts;

· Responsible for the development of the organisation’s annual plans, budgets and financial performance metrics.

· Responsible for the preparation of General Ledger entries and reconciliations for month-end closing.

· Maintains the general ledger, formulates & implements financial policies and processes in compliance with accepted accounting practice and applicable status.

Management Reporting

• Analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis and reporting on variances

· Preparing financial statements to management

· Provides financial information to management by analyzing accounting data and preparing reports.

· Full responsibility of the general ledger month-end close and presentation of the balance sheet and income statement results and analysis

· Recommending financial actions to management by analyzing accounting options.

· Prepare quarterly reports and analyzing and correcting discrepancies.

Treasury Management

• Implementing and analyzing revenues, commissions and expenses to ensure they are up to date

· Control of transitory accounts.

· Responsible for treasury control procedures and bank reconciliation.

· Managing and monitoring the employees pension fund and

· Responsible for the implementation of the cash flow forecasting processes

· Liaising with businesses, corporate treasury and tax units to ensure funding meets all future cash-flow need

· Monitoring daily cash flows

· Assist with controlling all interfaces with operating systems and banks, reconciling bank accounts and managing money transmission systems.

· Responsible for managing the relationship with Financial Institutions.

· Managing short term funds investment and longer term investments.

Tax and Liability Management

· Internal and external financial and tax audit and examination processes, including assisting with the preparation of audited financial statements and supplemental information.

· Prepare tax returns.

· Assist with financial and tax audits

· Assist with preparing tax returns and corporate reporting requirements

· Preparation and review of federal and state income taxes for employees and the organization

· Advice management on how to minimize tax liability, inform them of any tax changes that affect their business and ensure compliance with taxing agency requirements.


Financial Systems Operations

· Reviewing and updating the financial operating systems
· Maintaining the financial database to capture relevant financial data
· Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
· Manage the implementation of financial operating system.


CAPABILITY PROFILE- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND BEHAVIOURS

The Accountant will possess knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and theories; of financial statements and reports; of accounting ledgers and journals; and of computer technology related to accounting systems.

He/She should also be able to prepare basic financial statements and reports; to review and analyze financial information; and to maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals.

A Bachelor’s degree in any of the Sciences, Social Sciences, Management or equivalent with Second Class Upper Division. Applicants with Second Class Lower Division who possess a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a relevant field will be considered.

Membership or certification by ACCA, ICAN or any other relevant professional bodies is required.

Experience: Four (4) – Six (6) years relevant post qualification experience (which includes National Youth Service) in a reputable multinational, consulting, or professional organization.

· Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Tools.
