Your Primera, I should assume you mean the 2002 model, should use the synthetic 5w20 or 5w30 by factory recommendation. However, if the engine has been serviced with SAE40 over the years like your post suggests, going back to the factory recommended oil would do more harm than good to the engine now as relevant seals would have been damaged and a lot if wear in the engine and sludge due to the heavy engine oil.

The over-used 20w50 would be a better option at this time of the engine life in my opinion.

Let's wait for the pros though.

Have you tried bringing out the pump and clean the gauge with only petrol and light tooth brush, when dirty at times it won't work with dirt on the surface. Also stop running the car with low level of fuel, It is the major cause of this or you need to clean your fuel tank.

tell him to change only the fuel gauge ,I had same problem previously,the gauge alone is what I replace ,prob solved

If you have a scanner, there is a test that activates the fuel gauge, I forgot the name sha, it moves the gauge from empty to full and back again. Usually solves the problem.....in most cases or you can clean the ecu connections.....

P.S....never tried it on Nissan, but am pretty sure it works on Peugeot and Toyata
