Coinciding with the launch of their new streaming service, Disney+, the studio’s chief executive, Bob Iger, has announced a “reimagination” of seasonal family favourite Home Alone.

The 1990 Christmas classic sees Kevin McCallister, originally played by Macauley Culkin, defend his home against two burglars after his family leave him behind as they venture to Paris for the holidays.

Iger made no mention of who is set to star in the remake, however, he did note that it would appeal to “a new generation”.

He also failed to mention that given there are five Home Alone movies currently, and only two star Culkin, this won’t be the first time the franchise has gone through the reboot treatment.

This hasn’t stopped irate Home Alone fans taking to Twitter to voice their opinion on the news, using the hashtag #LeaveHomeAlone.

Disney has also announced that a number of other “reimaginations” are currently in the works, with favourites including Night At The Museum and Cheaper By The Dozen also set for reboots.

The news follows the $71 billion (£58 million) acquisition of 20th Century Fox back in March, with Iger announcing to the BBC that Disney “we’re also focused on leveraging Fox’s vast library of great titles to further enrich the content mix on our … platforms.”

With content that includes both the Star Wars and Marvel franchises, the new streaming service will be available in a bundle alongside Hulu and ESPN+ and has a price point of $12.99.

This situation is specifically more dangerous in the North east as the federal government can’t provide enough troops to secure the border which has aided the uncontrollable influx of migrants from neighboring countries to purvey some criminal act.


Unemployment And Poverty: Unemployment and poverty among Nigerians, especially the youth is one of the major cause of violent crimes in Nigeria. Without job creations and provisions the government can’t achieve success in their fight against insecurity because terrorist have now turn into Entrepreneurial. They employ both graduate and non-graduates to accomplish their mission.



Weak Security System: This is a major factor contributing to the level of insecurity in Nigeria and this can be attributed to a number of factors which include inadequate funding of the police and other security agencies; lack of modern equipment, poor welfare and inadequate personnel.


SOLUTIONS;



1) There must be a political will that will transcend all political parties or administrations to deal with all forms of immediate and foreseen insecurity threats.



2) The government needs to put their sponsors before the law, invest in peacebuilding and socio-economic developments. Youth empowerment, Economic diversification, and restructuring.



3) The government should enforce new laws; make our judicial system stronger. Once a terrorist is been arrested he or she should be persecuted immediately no matter their ethnic group, religion, backups or political post.



4) According to Gani Adams “There are some forces behind them in three phases, those who strike in the bush, those who issue statements to back them up and those who are strategists who give instructions to those who strike and to those who issue statements”. So the best way of solving the security issues the country is facing is by coming out for the sponsors of all the terrorist group and the executors because the executors are just messenger of the highest order. So, once sponsors are being prosecuted the terrorist will either surrender or be easily captured by the military.



5)The government should do a thorough investigation on the root cause, make arrangements with the head of each terrorist group for a national conference where regional leaders, traditional, religious leaders and every other person necessary should be present. The dialogue could be our solution, it could put an end to this. The president should think about the CONFAB conference.



In Conclusion, security is all about prevention and not waiting for the crime to happen before reacting to it. Farmers herders clash don’t happen before why now? Former Chelsea and Juventus boss Antonio Conte said there was a "60 percent" chance he would be back coaching in Italy next season.

Buhari made his decision known in an interview with SUNRISE daily, a breakfast show on Channels Television.


On why he stepped down, Buhari said his decision is to drum support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Ahmed Buhari, he is stepping down from the race because he believes that president Buhari is the right man for the job, NAN reports.

He noted that the Buhari government has also made some gains in the last four years it came on board in the country.

The former SNP presidential candidate accused Nigerian youths of not backing young persons for the presidency.

He regretted his lack of resources to compete with the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It would be recalled that Ahmed Buhari was once a member of the main opposition PDP but left for the SNP to fulfill his dream of becoming the country’s leader.

But, Kingsley Nwagu, the Vice Presidential candidate of the SNP distanced himself from the decision of his presidential candidate to support President Buhari.

Nwagu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview that Ahmed Buhari was alone in his decision and that the party had replaced him with Jaiye Gasikiya who was the runner-up during the presidential primary election.



“We are still in the race; Ahmed Buhari acted on his own without the party’s consent, so, as it is, the party has not adopted any candidate neither will it adopt.

“But if it will, it is left for the party to decide; we have already written to INEC and we are elevating Jaiye Gaskiya who contested primary election with Ahmed Buhari.



“INEC is yet to respond to our letter notifying them of the development in the party, and we expect a positive response from them.

“As it is, the ballot papers carry only the parties’ logo and as such we are calling on all our members nationwide to still thumbprint on our party logo,” Nwagu said.

Feb. 16 presidential race would see President Buhari of the APC, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and other aspirants slugging it out for the country’s number one seat on Saturday.

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, appealed to Nigerians to remain peaceful following the postponement of the general elections.





He made the plea in a statement on Saturday, hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shifted the polls by one week.

“Please, persevere just a bit longer to ensure that the elections on February 23 truly reflect the will of the people” the APC leader begged.

He added, “Do not allow this delay to deter you from the expression of your democratic rights. What you had set your mind to do on February 16, keep your mind and heart on for February 23.”




Tinubu who said the postponement was painful asked all those who came out to vote and those who intended to do so to maintain their commitment.

He noted the challenges encountered by INEC but raised concern that the commission was unable to address the issues within the time allotted.

“We are also perplexed that INEC literally waited so late in the day to make known the obstacles preventing it from keeping faith to the election schedule,” the former Lagos State governor regretted.

He said, “INEC could have and should have given the nation more ample and earlier warning.

“This could have perhaps lessened the pervasive disappointment that we all now feel. It also would have helped people better order their steps”.

Tinubu’s quotes read, “We have reports of eager voters rising early to leave their homes to cast their ballots only to be told upon arriving at their appointed polling stations that the election had been postponed.

“This should not have happened for it could well discourage people from coming out when the election takes place. Thus, we heartily commend those people for coming out in the exercise of their fundamental rights and duties as citizen voters, who vote by vote, seek to build and perfect our democracy.

“For each voter is in part an architect and each one of your votes is a brick by which, when lain together, shall construct a strong democracy in such a way that it shall forever stand and endure. Thus, we appeal to all who actually came out to vote and to those who intended to vote today, to maintain your commitment.

“Do not allow this delay to deter you from the expression of your democratic rights. What you had set your mind to do on February 16, keep your mind and heart on for February 23.

“INEC has stated the reason for the delay and has expressed regret over the inconveniences it has caused. We must take INEC’s statement at face value and hold to the belief that INEC understands even more than ever the sober and grave responsibility it has to our nation and our democracy.

“INEC can only properly discharge that responsibility by conducting free and fair elections. While we cannot go back to repair what did or did not happen to cause this postponement, we all must encourage INEC to do all that is necessary so voting can smoothly proceed on February 23.

“Whatever our political affiliation, we must encourage INEC to overcome the difficulties in order to rise to this most important occasion. INEC must commit itself more than ever before to perform to its utmost so that these elections will be remembered as a free and fair exercise consonant with the best of international standards.

“In the end, elections must be held in such a manner that every vote carries the same weight and no vote is minimized because elections took place much earlier or later in one place than in another. Thus, it is better to experience a slight delay to conduct the elections properly rather than to conduct the elections piecemeal and uneven fashion.

“No one will absolve INEC if such a fate befalls this all-important election. The electoral body must use the one-week extension to mend its logistics gaps and lapses. This delay has clearly provoked significant anger and disappointment among the people.

“The voters were ready and INEC should have been equally as prepared and ready as the voters. Yet, we ask that people contain their anger and remain calm. Let no one be tempted to breach the peace because of this delay.

“In the greater scheme of things, a one-week delay is not overly burdensome when compared to the importance of conduct of free and just elections in the establishment of representative democracy and good governance in our land.



“Please, persevere just a bit longer to ensure that the elections on February 23 truly reflect the will of the people. Whatever obstacles may come, be they large or small, let us show the world the Nigerian people will not be deterred from realizing the democracy for which we have fought and sacrificed so long and so hard to achieve”.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was in a meeting with political parties, and their leadership after suddenly postponing the presidential election.





The chairman of INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu in his addressed ‘regretted the inconveniences’, the postponement would have caused political parties and Nigerians.





However, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole lambasted the INEC chairman for postponing the elections at 2:30am, when ‘decent Nigerians had gone to bed,’ demanding an apology.





Nigerians following the programme, hailed the former Edo state governor, for speaking outrightly against the embarrassing postponement – and for also demanding that Mahmood apologizes.

It sounds like something straight out of a movie: an unsatisfied bank programmer discovers the perfect scheme for making an ATM spit out free money.

But apparently, this story is true: The South China Morning Postand China’s Daily Economic News report that 43-year-old Qin Qisheng managed to withdraw over 7 million yuan (upwards of $1 million USD) from ATMs operated by his employer, Huaxia Bank — all by exploiting a crazy loophole.

According to the reports, the bank’s system didn't properly record withdrawals made around midnight — effectively spitting out cash without removing the total from a user’s account. Normally, that might send up a red flag that a transaction had failed, but Qisheng allegedly inserted scripts into the system that suppressed those alerts.

Qisheng started pulling out money in November 2016, but it wasn’t until January 2018, some 1,358 withdrawals later, that the bank discovered the bad code in its system and brought him to the authorities.

The bank wanted to drop the case

Perhaps the most surprising part of this story: the bank didn’t want to keep pressing charges once he’d returned the money. Maybe fearing the bad publicity (apparently the loophole has already been fixed), Huaxia Bank reportedly asked the police to drop the case — reportedly accepting Qisheng’s explanation that he was merely testing the bank’s security and was holding onto the money for the bank to reclaim. As one does.

The courts refused, though, and Qisheng is now looking at 10 and a half years in prison after losing his appeal. They didn’t buy the argument, considering that he’d moved the money to his personal bank account, instead of the bank’s dummy account, and had apparently been investing some in the stock market, too.

We've seen some big, coordinated ATM heists in recent years, and the FBI has warned of more, but it’s a little more fun to imagine this one guy saving up his ill-gotten gains for retirement like none other.

As reactions continue to trail the recent statement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the state of the nation, the Council of Progressive Yoruba Youths has apologized to Nigerians.




The youth group said the latest missive in circulation entitled “Points For Concern And Action by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo” was off-point and should be discarded in its entirety.

Speaking at a news conference in Lagos on Tuesday, the National President of the group, Kola Salawu, said Nigerians needed to forgive Obasanjo for the eight years he wasted as a civilian president and for the wrong path he set the nation on.

Salawu said the Yoruba race was deeply ashamed that a so-called elder from its ethnic stock decided to remain in a muddy gutter by penning such nauseating content.

He claimed that Obasanjo sowed the seed for extremism that birthed terrorism.

The youth leader said, “In Yoruba land, we take pride in answering our names. Only a bastard will deny his name. In practical terms, this translates into us standing by our decisions and actions, irrespective of what outcomes they produced. Where the outcomes are good our head swells with the accompanying accolades; where the results of our actions are undesirable, we accept responsibility with honor and explore how to make amends so that we remain an integral part of the society. Of course, in the ancient past, where the failure is too grievous and involves a king that remained recalcitrant the relevant powers will have to present hi, with an empty calabash.

“This is a level of honor Obasanjo has never possessed and is incapable of learning. Had he such honor he would have accepted that the current insecurity he ranted is the outcome of his misrule that is only now yielding fruits. The poverty that makes it possible for terrorists, militants, and separatists to gain new recruits was first instituted under his watch as president. The extremism that the nation today grapple with first surfaced under him with some states declaring Sharia rule, which was the incentive that made terrorists started demanding nationwide strict implementation Sharia.

“In the entire eight years he held office, Obasanjo was in mortal fear of being overthrown because of the unpopularity of his government. His solution to this was to destroy the military in the belief that there would be no way to plot a coup against him if there is no virile military. In addition to embarking on massive sacks and purge that deprived the military establishment of crucial institutional memory, he also ensured that the military inventory was depleted without replenishment or procurement to make sure that the military was incapacitated.

“The destruction of the military armory at Ikeja Cantonment about this time of the year in 2002 has now been confirmed to be part of Obasanjo’s desperation to de-tooth the military. A military plane crash that killed a dozen generals under Obasanjo’s watch in 2006 is equally put down to part of his obsession to gelatinize the military. He seemed to have succeeded with it.

“The taint on the military from Obasanjo’s directives for troops to disregard rules of engagement in Odi and Zak-Ibiam remains an obstacle to the military. Even when their recent and ongoing operations meet the global standards for the rules of engagement, the stain from the Obasanjo years remains a perspective from which the military is perceived. This affects the ability of the military to procure arms when they need it and the same tyrant under whose watch this happened is today playing the saint.

“In essence, Obasanjo sowed the seed for extremism that birthed terrorism. He backed this up by ensuring that the military was emasculated and unable to respond to the threat he has created. What has saved Nigeria from Obasanjo’s evil intent was the timely turnaround being witnessed under President Buhari, who has high regards for institutional memory in the military.

“The whole of Nigeria became his enemy and he has never lost on any perceived opportunity to exact vengeance on all citizens. May we refresh our memory that Obasanjo reportedly trained 1000 killer snipers abroad with the intention of using them to assassinate those who stand in the way of his ambition. These snipers formed part of the pioneer team of killers that have remained loose in the country to date.

“The outcome of that election produced Mallam Umaru Yar’Adua as president and it was a matter of months before Obasanjo started wishing him dead because he turned out not to be the stooge that Obasanjo expected. Yar’Adua’s demise paved way for Goodluck Jonathan, whom Obasanjo did much to mislead and abandoned after he incurred the anger of Nigerians pleasing the former President. If Obasanjo thought he would have a pliant President Buhari following his opposition of Jonathan he was in for a rude shock.

“If Obasanjo supported Yar’Adua and later disowned him over ill health, supported Jonathan and later disowned him for consulting others and supported Buhari and now disowning him for not bending to his wishes, then maybe it is not this president that something is wrong with. The problem is Obasanjo. He feigns support for successive presidents in the hope of being able to use them as puppets and continue as a life president while they act as the symbolic leaders. Such deviousness is not the Yoruba way because it is without honor.

“We do not want to go into the past of Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), whom Obasanjo convinced Nigerians to be a very corrupt person. The same person God will not forgive him for forgiving. He has turned around to tell Nigerians that this is the same person to vote in the hope of acquiring a new puppet. A Yoruba elder will not be caught doing such, it amounts to being incitement, which is unbecoming of anyone that has become a grandfather.


“We apologize for the eight wasted years of Obasanjo as a civilian president and for the wrong path, he set the country on, which we are now all trying to correct. We apologize for his callous thinking that had projected that Buhari would die in office. We apologize for the unbecoming tantrum he has been throwing for not having his way as a puppet master of successive presidents. We apologize to you all Nigerians because what Obasanjo does not reflect who the Yoruba are.”

US singer, Chris Brown has been arrested in Paris following a rape accusation.

Brown and two others were taken into custody on Monday after a woman filed a rape allegation in northwest Paris.

He is accused of raping a woman in a five-star hotel after meeting her in a nightclub.


The arrests were first reported by French tabloid, Closer, which said the three were arrested after a 24-year-old woman alleged she was raped at Brown’s hotel suite on the night of January 15.

Police said one of the others held is Brown’s bodyguard.

The woman is said to have followed the singer to his hotel room where the incident allegedly occurred.


Prosecutors in the French capital confirmed that the 29-year-old faced criminal charges after the alleged sex attack a week ago.

“He is accused of rape and is being held at the judicial police offices in the 1st arrondissement,” Evening Standard quoted a prosecuting source.

“He was arrested with two others on Monday, and interviews and other inquiries are ongoing. The offense is said to have taken place on the night of January 15 this year.

“The woman said she was abused by Mr. Brown, a bodyguard, and a friend, and then she was left alone with the star,” said another source in Paris.

“A total of three men were arrested at Mr. Brown’s hotel. They did not resist police, and now have lawyers representing them.”

Actress, Genevieve Nnaji has been interviewed by CNN's Richard Quest after her first movie, Lionheart, as a director was bought by Netflix, making it the very first original Nigerian movie to be acquired by the movie sharing platform.

On the eve of the premiere of Genevieve Nnaji's directorial debut film, "Lion Heart" at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, movie sharing platform, Netflix announced a deal to acquire the movie on its channel.



This made "Lionheart" the first original film from Nigeria to be owned by the American movie streaming platform.

Speaking with Richard Quest on Tuesday night, Genevieve shared how she was able to gather funds for the production of the movie and the chances of Nollywood gaining global acceptance.






On how she was able to put the movie together:






"For the money, we had to self-fund unfortunately, she says, we don't have adequate funding for movies that we actually intend to go global, there isn't that provision yet."






She also explained that Nollywood stands a good chance of going global anytime soon, but she sees language as the only problem that stands as a barrier.






Lion Heart premiered at the TIFF Festival 2018 on Saturday, September 2018.
