Car Talk / Re: Subsidy Removal: Taraba Civil Servants Sell Off Cars by XtraFortunes: 11:24am On Jul 05, 2023
nairalanda1:

So you want a leader that will bring back cheap fuel?

Cheap fuel has not benefited our economy. At all. It is why we don't have working refineries, why we even have inflation and deficits.

Fuel costs money to refine.

Subsidy is the only thing the common man benefits from this Nigerian Govt. They are removing it cos of corruption of those at the top. Why not fix the corruption in the subsidy process and allow the common man enjoy the only benefit this nation gives him?

The money gotten from subsidy removal will be looted by the corrupt politicians and so there is no benefit to the common man.

All the Abacha loot that was returned was it not relooted?

Family / Re: My Girlfriend's Mom Said Some Pastors Said Our Marriage Won't Work. Please Help by XtraFortunes: 11:39am On Jun 25, 2023
klimkid:
My girlfriend and I have been dating for 3 years now and it's about time we start planning on getting married.

One thing I no for sure is that she loves me and I do love her too. Recently, she told me that her mom went to some churches and they told her it won't work, about 3 pastors. But my girlfriend told her friend to tell her pastor to pray about it.

So he prayed about it and he gave us feedback after 3 days and he said the marriage will work, he said I will give my girlfriend peace, take care of her and make her happy.

There's a woman that prays for me here in Lagos, she said there is nothing wrong with both of us. I also called my Rev. Father and he said that nobody has the right to say the person is for this person or the marriage won't work.

He said marriage is a decision both of us will take and pray about it.

He said hence we love ourselves so much, should leave it for God and continue with our relationship.

Guys, have you experienced this before? What do you think? I am confused.

Shebe some pastors said tilumbu won't be sworn in? Majority are fake pastors scamming people with religion undecided

With the exchange rate now that money is small. You will have to look for funding/scholarship. Try Scandinavian countries like Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. If you can get scholarships in Germany or Canada also good. But that cash when converted is small now. Goodluck and focus on getting masters scholarships.

Travel / Re: Relocating To Nigeria with our kids by XtraFortunes: 4:25pm On Jun 18, 2023
BlessedEnoche:
We want to emigrate to Nigeria with our children, from Europe.
Under 18 yrs, we are Nigerian (husband) and dutch, the way the world is going, we would like them to have a bit of the African life experience. We love to travel.

Our family is used to travel and live in multiple countries, western world, But not Africa. We want to farm in Nigeria.

Am doing some research and what i found out is that there are a large amount of afro Americans that are moving to Ghana to settle down there, the Ghanian government even have a special treatment for them.

Even Ghanians are willing to go back home from the western world, when you go on YouTube etc, there are alot of stories about people relocating to Ghana with families from all over the world.

When i speak to the Nigerians in the diaspora, they are condemning Nigeria, talking down on Nigeria.
Even the Shell workers (expats) dont want to go back to Nigeria (even with pensions). Most Nigerians want to even leave Nigeria. The Nigerian students are not returning home after their studies to share their knowledge and to help build Nigeria.

This is so shocking to me because i have never heard any other African speaking countries speak so bad about their own country like the Nigerians do, even somalians are going back to Somalia.

My question is;
is there anybody in this group that went back home with children from the western world and what was your experience, how did your kids cope? How did yourself cope?

If you watch the news you will see that a lot of farmers have left their farms because of Fulani herdsmen and their cows who kidnap and terrorize them. The government is not doing anything to bring these herdsmen to justice and you will hardly find them being prosecuted in any court.

I am not against you coming to African but coming to Nigeria, I will advise you think again. Instead go to Ghana or Gambia and settle and farm there till things get better here.

You can imagine a country where Bandits and terrorist collect tax from farmer where there is supposed to be a Government? It is a sad situation at this point.

Instead of fixing these things the government deploys propaganda to downplay it

Business / Re: Customs Plans To Ban Second-Hand Clothes (Okrika) by XtraFortunes: 3:55pm On Jun 09, 2023
datola:
Please ban the rubish okirika. It is our major economic sabotage.

Those illiterates commenting up do not know its because of the toxic okirikas that textile industry collapsed in Nigeria.

Textile industry used to be the largest employer of labour in Nigeria. Millions of jobs have been lost because of trade liberalization agenda that allow all rubish from other countries to be dumbed into Nigeria.

If we produce and sew almost all we wear here we would enjoy these benefits among others:

1. Millions of jobs lost will be recreated

2. Most youth will be gainfully employed and thus reduce crime especially insurgency in the North

3. Naira will gain strength

4. Health hazard as a result of wearing toxic clothese will be averted.

5, Nigerian fashion brands will grow

Hope those who want to eat their tomorrow today will understand.

Keep your mouth shut.

Is textile the only industry that collapse? What of the automobile industry? Did it not collapse? Peaugot Automobile Nigeria and Voxwagen? Why did Government not ban all fairly used cars so we all will buy only brand new ones, let's see if you can afford a brand new car?

People like you have no empathy, because the policy does not affect you, it is fine. Rubbish!!!

You think lawyers in Nigeria will be going to court without payment till dey win the case? You are naive bro. It doesn't happen in Nigeria. You pay for every appearance the lawyer makes in court.

The lawyer may win your case and the defendant will not pay and appeal the judgement to the appeal court and supreme court if he has money, and this takes years. So you expect the lawyer to be going to court for years without payment? How will he survive?

Crime / Re: Udensi Ngozi Opemipo: My Missing Niece Is Now Back Home by XtraFortunes: 10:13am On Jun 06, 2023
mradjoy:
The previous thread:
https://www.nairaland.com/7713767/udensi-ngozi-opemipo-missing-seen#123550647

I'd like to use this medium to appreciate everyone who empathize with us, those who prayed with us and those who called me from this forum without knowing who I am to offer some valuable advice which partly contributed to her returning back home yesterday on her own volition.

My sincere appreciation goes out to Seun Osewa who swiftly swung into action by moving the thread to the Frontpage immediately after I contacted him.

And to that wonderful journalist who contacted me from The Punch News, they offered to publish it and use their connection to contact the Lagos CP to expedite action on my niece's search.

Lastly to those set of people who's got warped mindset, always thinking every little girl we have in Nigeria are wayward, well, it's not really your fault because if you know how brilliant my niece is, you wouldn't doubt her purity at such tender age. I read so many unruly comments here, but decided to ignore majority of them because I believe it's almost impossible for a brilliant little girl like her, who had near perfect WAEC result at one sitting, and also scored over 300 in JAMB to be wayward at the same time. If you have her as your sister or daughter would you ever have the thought of waywardness towards her?

She had a quarrel with her aunt while her mom was at work, so she decided to punish everybody according to her by leaving the house for them.

She'd initially planned to seize the opportunity to visit her paternal grand parent in Imo state, but on getting to the park, she couldn't afford the fare, she had to go visit her friend somewhere in Ijegun, Lagos instead of heading back to Bariga. I believed her because the tracking result we got from the private tracking guy we employed showed exactly the same thing she'd earlier narrated.

Up until now I never knew there was a tracking system that gives precise location, the street name, the house number, even to the room you're, this tracking system is so effective and powerful to the point of tracking mobile number even when it's switched off.

Now, I was wondering why can't FG use same or better technology to combat insurgency in Nigeria?

So cutting the long story short, we decided to send her a text msg containing those information we gathered about her whereabout and she knew the game was up and decided to call her aunt, then her mom to inform them she was heading home already.

We're happy and glorify God for her safety. Thanks and God bless you all.

Wow never would have believed such system exist in Nigeria and we still have such high crime rates.

Thank God she was found.

Please is Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma a good university to study Computer Science?

I heard the university isn't that good. How true?

I finished from there. During my time there it was all theory. I didn't touch a computer courtesy of the Dept for the 4years I spent there. I don't know how things are there now, but I guess the difference won't be much.

We were taught lots of mathematics and statistics. I guess it is the same for many Nigerian universities. The little I know about computers I learned from my IT and self development.

Sometimes I feel if I had used my school fees to do business or buy online courses I would have gotten better value for that money, but my parents would not agree cos they want that my child is a graduate tag.

Things are different now from my time, but try and get into a federal university cos school fees I hear now is outrageous. Goodluck

The subsidy removal announcement has been there for months, ever since the past government said that they won't fund the subsidy beyond June.

At the end, Tinubu just confirmed what has been old news. He won't continue the funding.

Oga, you want us to borrow again to fund subsidy? Shey you know that Obi and Atiku too were saying that subsidy has to go in their campaign.?

God knows I hate this new APC government, but on subsidy we got to face the reality, or we keep lying to ourselves at the expense of a growing deficit.

How many times have they removed subsidy? Did buhari not say there is nothing like subsidy? Have previous governments not removed it? Subsidy is a government scam on the citizens in Nigeria.

Travel / Re: The Hype Of These Abroad People Is Making Some Of Us Feel Less Achieved by XtraFortunes: 9:56am On May 07, 2023
Calvilman:
Based on my experiences most of these nigerians in europe are losers who work menial, low skilled jobs, live in a tiny home and waste all their savings on having a lifestyle that seems lavish to nigerians back home.

Obviously these people want to brag to make themselves feel better about themselves when most people around them in rich countries are doing much better than them and have much better jobs while these people are on the bottom of the society there.

Don't get me wrong, there are successful ones too but I've never seen one post it on social media, it's always these labourer losers.
Have you ever seen doctors, professors and lawyers brag about their european life online?

I'm european-born living in africa, this is the truth from my point of view.
I don't know how it's like in america but I suspect these people are usually inovlved in drug trafficking unless they have a tech job or something similar but getting a degree that will get you a 120k USD peryear job you'd have to pay 20k USD a year for university so it still doesn't make much sense.
Or maybe it's just bank money but whatever it is it's not only what they tell and make you see.

Many tech jobs do not need you going to the university. There are many successful tech guys who are self taught and some went to boot camps not university. So you are wrong.
