Two weeks after he and his father, former Adamawa state governor, Murtala Nyako were declared wanted by the EFCC for financial impropriety while in government, the operatives of the EFCC this morning arrested Abdul-Aziz Nyako, the son of Gov Nyako in Gombe state. His arrest comes after N15 billion meant for the state was found in accounts of 5 companies owned by him. Read the EFCC press statement on his arrest below after the cut… Barely two weeks after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, declared former Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako and his son, Abdul-Aziz, wanted, operatives of the anti- graft agency, this morning arrested the younger Nyako in Gombe, Gombe State. He was immediately flown to Abuja where he is currently being grilled by a crack team of detectives who had been working on the Adamawa investigation for several months. Abdul-Aziz, who was declared wanted by the EFCC in the case of stealing, abuse of office and money laundering, is currently telling investigators all he knows about illicit funds traced to companies where he has interest. Specifically, he will have to explain how over N15billion funds belonging to Adamawa State was laundered into the accounts of five companies owned by him- Blue Opal Nigeria limited, Crust Energy Nigeria Limited, Blue Ribbon Multilinks Limited, Tower Assets Management Limited and Blue Ribbon Bureau De Change. The funds was funned into the accounts of the companies from Adamawa State accounts domiciled in a new generation bank by the account officer who incidentally is the manager and an in-law to ex-governor Nyako. The manager claimed he transferred the funds through verbal instruction from the former governor for purposes which are not stated. Investigations revealed that from 2007 to 2011 within Nyako’s tenure in office, before he was impeached in 2014, he had directed that all of the state owned accounts domiciled in various banks be transferred to the new generation bank . Abdul-Aziz’s company, Blue Opal, is said to own, among other investments in Nigeria, an estate in Abuja, while his father’s account officer owns several properties and investments scattered around Abuja, Yola and Kano. Former governor Nyako is still on the run. Source http://www.safecozzy.com/news/efcc-arrest-son-of-former-adamawa-state-gov-n15b-allegedly-found-in-his-company-accounts/

The main market in Biu, the largest town in the southern part of Borno state, was rocked on Thursday by an explosion believed to have been carried out by the terrorist group, Boko Haram. Five persons, according to eyewitnesses, were killed as a result of the blast, including a woman, who was believed have planted the Improvised Explosive device in the market. The bombing also left 10 other persons injured and caused momentarily panic in the town. One of the traders in the market, Ibrahim Shaffa, who witnessed the incident, told our correspondent on the telephone, that a woman was caught trying to set up the explosive device very close to the market at about 3.30pm on Thursday. The youth and traders around the area “because they were alien to such incident, were not too sure what the woman was trying do, but they accosted her, telling her to carry what she dropped. “It was during the argument that the explosive device detonated and killed five persons, including the woman.” Shaffa said, ten other persons were injured in the explosion, stressing that “the ten persons were taken to the Biu General Hospital to receive treatment,” He revealed that though the market was visited by security agents almost immediately after the explosion to ascertain the level of destruction, things were back to normal as people, who were initially apprehensive, started going about their normal activities. A source at the hospital, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to our correspondent, confirmed that 10 persons were brought to the hospital with different degrees of injuries. Several attempts to get the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Gideon Jibrin, failed as his phone did not go through. A Chinese man who refused to leave a hospital after over three years, has finally been forcibly removed by police. The 55-year-old man known as Chen, had first been admitted into the hospital in August 2011, after he had sustained injuries from a road traffic accident. He underwent treatment for a total of 4 months after he was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis. After the treatment was completed, doctors discharged him, as he was fit to go home. However, Chen refused to leave the hospital, claiming that he was still in pain, and was unable to straighten his legs, Daily Mail reports. He stated that it was the hospital’s responsibility to take care of him. He even missed his son’s wedding, as he didn’t want to leave the hospital. Numerous tests had been carried, which clearly showed that Chen was healthy. However, he disputed the reports, insisting that he was ill. Earlier this week, the hospital was granted a court order to have Chen forcibly removed from his hospital bed. He subsequently padlocked himself to to the bed to prevent authorities from carrying him out. However, the padlocks were broken and he was ejected. 21 year old popular Texas college football player Carlton Ray Champion Jr. (left) has been charged with the murder of 24yr old transgender woman, Ty Underwood ()right, who was killed on Jan. 26th Police first caught a break in the case when Ty’s roommate, Kedrick Darks, told police Underwood had been dating a man named “Carlton” for several weeks prior to her death. Police say they interviewed Champion, who confirmed that he had been communicating via a service called “Kik” with Underwood, who was going by “Tyra” on the service. They were able to search Champion’s tablet computer and allegedly discovered communications between Champion and Underwood dating back to January 19, 2015. “After reading the text between Champion, Jr. and Underwood, it was clear that the two have had sexual relations with each other,” one detective wrote. The investigation revealed a series of messages between Champion and Underwood on January 25 in which Underwood was angry with Champion for initially agreeing to meet in person that night and then backing out. Underwood sent a message saying she no longer wanted to see Champion, to which he allegedly responded: “That’s how it is now, I will make it up.” After that, there was allegedly some additional conversation about where and how they would meet, and whether it would be at a Texas College or along a random street. The conversation makes it appear they were to meet on 25th street. The investigators also obtained surveillance video allegedly depicting Champion exiting his dorm early on the morning of January 26 following the Kik conversation. They say Champion met up with Ty – and when he found out he was born a male, Champion allegedly killed him. One of the detectives interviewed Champion’s father and wrote “[Champion’s father] stated that Carlton Jr. was meeting [Underwood] and thought [Underwood] was female. According to [Champion’s father], Carlton Jr. was supposed to get some type of sexual favor from [Underwood] but realized [Underwood] was a male.” Additionally, investigators say Champion’s jacket worn at the time of the murder tested positive for blood in a preliminary test that’s too basic to determine whose blood was sampled. source http://www.safecozzy.com/news/football-player-arrested-for-killing-his-girlfriend-after-finding-out-she-was-transgender/

The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Monday said his administration would engage the services of only qualified teachers to improve standard of education in the state. Governor Oshiomhole stated this when he received a committee report on the recruitment of teachers for the state ministry of education in Benin. He explained that strength of the state’s teaching staff was inadequate as against the number of schools available, adding that those recommended by the committee, irrespective of their state of origin, would be engaged. Oshiomhole stated that the state government had demonstrated, through its intervention and by the quality of schools built, that “education for us is at the heart of our future.” He added, “Our future lies in producing the best of human capital, and where merit is required, our people would be a first choice. “I know for a fact that we still need more teachers, we still have schools without enough teachers, and this is premised on the problem of posting and corruption in the section of the ministry of education.” He, however, commended members of the committee for their helping the state government to overcome the challenge of selecting suitably qualified candidates for the various positions. Earlier, the chairman of the committee, Professor Dennis Agbonlahor, explained that 21,195 persons applied for teaching positions in the state. Former Nigeria defender Taribo West has said that the poor treatment meted out to former national team players has engendered a curse on the fortunes of the Super Eagles. Nigeria won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations after 19 years but failed to qualify to defend the title this year. West, a former AC Milan and Inter player, said that lack of care for former players who have died in penury has resulted in resentment towards the national side. “Administrators in the past committed a lot of atrocities against Eagles players and in anger these players cursed the team,” West told the Punch. “Stephen Keshi led the Eagles to win the Afcon title two years ago through the grace of God. We all saw the problems the team encountered before winning the trophy in South Africa. “Imagine a nation you served, you get injured and nobody cares; they dump you. Look at the way a player like [Rashidi] Yekini served the team and died. It shouldn’t have been. Somebody needs to go to his family and compensate them. “[Sunday] Eboigbe has been paralyzed for years and nobody has gone to see him. Will you say such a man, who gave his best for his country, shouldn’t curse his country,” he asked. While West was forced out of the national side himself, he says that he has now overcome the pain. “I have forgiven them but look at the way I was sent packing from the national team. I spoke for the young players in the team, who didn’t have a voice and they banned me. “Why won’t I be aggrieved? Since then they haven’t had a good defence,” he said. West then urged the administrators to create a scheme for taking care of retired footballers who have played for the national sides as is done in Europe. “Here there is nothing for ex-internationals. In all the countries I played in Europe, there are some monies like pension that I will collect when I attain a certain age because I paid my taxes while there. We don’t have such here,” he said. When Kathy Anderson was 15 she was raped by a family friend – and found out she was pregnant soon after. The mother, now 50, kept it a secret from her parents until the day she went into labor. When she gave birth to a ‘perfect little girl’, social workers and doctors insisted she give it up for adoption and three days later, the baby was taken from her. Nearly 30 years on from what Mrs Anderson calls the ‘worst day of her life’, the daughter she had only held once in a hospital bed, Katie Wynn, tracked her down. The pair bonded instantly after their emotional reunion and have ended up living together, with Katie’s two sisters who she had never met. Katie, now 35, grew up in Minnesota with her adoptive parents Bill and Cindy Young. When she was 20 she moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, and began the search for Kathy. In a blog for WE TV, she wrote: ‘I’ve always wondered about my birth mother, who she was, what she looked like, if she thought of me on my birthday and if I looked like her. I would go thru spurts of wanting to find her and just feeling hopeless since I only had an extremely common name – Kathy Anderson.’ After years of trying to filter through people by that name who lived in Garland and Dallas, Texas, she eventually received a phone call from her aunt Shirley. She had known about her birth family for years and informed her she had two sisters – Portia and Alicia. Katie then stumbled on a website for Troy The Locator, a show that helps estranged relatives reunite. Producers questioned her and after a short time she found herself going to Austin, Texas, to meet her family. Since their emotional meeting, Katie appears to have changed her last name from Wynn to Lagunas. On her Facebook page she shares pictures with two children and a man called Gabriel. Mrs Anderson, who has recently divorced from her husband of 20 years, described to the show the traumatic experience she went through having to give up Katie. She told WE TV’s Locator: ‘I want to say I was 15 but I could have been a bit younger than that. I have an amnesia on some of the events.I was young and it wasn’t me saying “I don’t want you.” I wanted her.The choices were not really mine. My mother and everyone at the hospital were saying this would be the best decision for the baby and me.I felt like I had no choice. Coordinator, All Progressives Congress, APC, France chapter, Mrs. Ibifuro Tatua, has called on Nigerians in Diaspora to mobilise support from their respective places of abode for the party’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, saying that victory for him would help the country regain its place on the global stage. Speaking during a campaign rally by APC members in France, Tatua said: “Back home, the people’s anger has become deep and bitter. They are not comfortable with the prevailing deficit in the nation’s body polity. They are against the ruling party for ineptitude. “To majority of Nigerians, the Peoples Democratic Party is a failure and any vote for the party in this month’s general election is a mandate for poverty, bad policies, insecurity, infrastructural decay and destruction of the nation’s economy.” SOURCE http://www.safecozzy.com/news/encouraging-or-disencouraging-apc-france-drums-support-for-buhari/ http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/apc-france-drums-support-buhari/#sthash.YrmTNNFY.dpuf |
