actiondrilling: With N19.2 billion and good effort between Ondo State government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), it would take less than 30 minutes to drive from Ondo to Lagos on a 50-kilometre stretch.
This will be made possible as Ondo State government and the NDDC have jointly flagged off the construction of the N19.2 billion Araromi-Akodo/Ibeju-Lekki Road, connecting Ondo and Lagos states.
Speaking at the ceremony to mark the commencement of work on the 50-kilometre road at the Araromi Seaside, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu described the event as “epoch-making and indescribable.”
Governor Akeredolu said: “This is the project for us. To link our state almost seamlessly to Lagos is the big deal. It has been our vision and we thank God that it is now being realised.”
Akeredolu expressed optimism that the project would be delivered before the expiration of the tenure of the current NDDC Board, thanking the Commission for partnering his administration to provide good governance to the people. In his remarks, the chairman of the NDDC board, Victor Ndoma-Egba, said the Commission was focusing on projects that would truly integrate the Niger Delta region. Ndoma-Egba, therefore, urged all the governors in the region to emulate their Ondo State counterpart in collaborating with the NDDC.
He said people should discard the notion that NDDC projects were hardly completed; assuring that the Ondo regional road project would be executed faithfully. He also assured that the Omotosho-Okitipupa electrification project would be completed soon.
In his speech at the occasion, the NDDC managing director, Nsima Ekere, recalled that the Commission had on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ondo State government to build the 50.918km road.
Ekere said: “The Araromi-Akodo/Ibeju-Lekki Road will connect the agricultural-rich communities of Araromi seaside – Igbo Erelu, Eba, Awodikora, Elefon, Ode-Omi, Imedu, Igboguna, Akodo in Ondo State with Ise in Ibeju – Lekki area of Lagos States.
“It is the first part of the very important coastal road project, which the Federal Government has conceived to link our coastal towns with a strategic road network. On completion, it will cut travel time between Ondo State and Lagos to less than one hour, and facilitate easy evacuation of agricultural produce from these communities.”
He explained that the main alignment from Irokun to Ise was 36.035km, with seven different spurs totalling 14.883km. He observed that because of the difficult terrain, it would cost a total of N19.274 billion at an average cost of N378.5 million per kilometre.
Under the current NDDC board, more attention would be focused on projects that would engender sustainable and comprehensive regional economic and social integration of the Niger Delta, he said.
He said: “Very shortly, the Commission will conclude and execute similar partnership projects with Edo and Delta State Governments for the construction of the Benin-Abraka Road and Omadino-Okerenkoko-Escravos Road. We are also looking to partner with the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, for the construction of the Abak-East-West Road.

Politics › Re: Promote International Peace, Buhari Tells Putin by Yahami(m): 10:42pm On Mar 20, 2018 |
ManirBK: President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to use his re-election to promote international peace and stability.
Putin, whose country is having some sour relations with the West over the invasion of Crimea and the poisoning of a former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, with a nerve agent, won a resounding re-election for a fourth term on Sunday.
President Buhari in a letter extended “sincere congratulations” to him.
Buhari said Putin’s “success for the fourth time in the election is a clear testimony of the confidence” Russians have in his leadership.
He also urged his Russian counterpart to “see this victory as a base to continue to promote international peace and stability.”
President Buhari assured President Putin of “Nigeria’s commitment to a stronger and mutually beneficial relations with the Russian Federation under your watch.”

metronaija2: Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters who has expressed his interest in running for the presidency in 2019 general election has promised to raise the minimum wage for workers to N100, 000 if elected.
The former student leader and anti corruption activist who has been meeting Nigerians across the United States in furtherance of his presidential ambition said this in a post on his social media account on Monday morning.
He said, “Good morning Nigeria! Our starting minimum wage for Nigerian workers will be N100,000, we can’t run a modern, efficient and corrupt-free civil service without proper remuneration. Rest assured that we can afford it, we simply need to cut public waste and corruption by 20%, diversify our economy, collect taxes, excise and customs duties, stop giving out waivers to cronies…and many more strategies to be unveiled.”
Sowore had revealed yesterday that he already has people studying various sectors of the Nigerian economy to ensure he hits the ground running from the first day if he gets the mandate of Nigerians to be the next occupant of Aso Rock presidential villa.
But he has not indicated which of the over 60 political parties in Nigeria he will contest on.
http://www.metronaija.ng/2019-sowore-promises-n100000-minimum-wage/ Nigeria's minimum wages is 18% despite that kogi is paying civil servant 5% and nothing happen, how is he going to curb state governors excess as regard paying what favour their pocket no what's was given to them to pay....just emerging that as a citizens |
Politics › Re: No Money To Fix Refineries – FG by Yahami(m): 11:18am On Mar 15, 2018 |
JosEast: The Federal Government has said that it has no money to fix the nation's refineries.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after the cabinet meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The minister stated that he had given all the guidance required to fix the refineries.
He said the government had to raise money through a Public-Private Partnership model.
He stated: "As a seasoned professional, I have given all the guidance that is required to fix the refineries. We came into a situation where we don’t have money to fix the refineries. We had to raise the money looking into the PPP model; it has to go through a process.
"The technical committee is headed by the NNPC. Obviously they'll submit their report to the board when they complete their work. So, from a governance and guidance sense, steering point of view, I think that steering is right on track, from a management of the technical aspect of the contracting, that is something we would have to allow NNPC handle, it is not the job of the ministry to superimpose, you’ve got to let them do their work and do it efficiently."
Kachikwu also said that the proposed modular refineries in Delta and Rivers States were not meant to address the current refining gap.
“On modular refineries; modular wasn’t supposed to provide a sufficient solution to your product needs, modulars are on the average between 2,000 and 5,000 maybe 10,000 at most capacity per refinery. Your consumption is about 630,000 barrels per day, that is not the essence of modular, what modular was supposed to do for us is provide work within some of these communities where people are busy doing illegal refining.
“It’s not meant to address the refining product gap we have in the country, we are hoping that those gaps will be covered by a mixture of the three or four refineries that government owns currently, Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna and of course the Dangote refinery of 600 barrels,” he said.
https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/no-money-to-fix-refineries-fg.html I don't really understand which kind of leadership we have in this country, we heard that our external reserve has rise from $25B to $46B now we don't have money to repair common refinery not to build new refinery then what's the gain for the suffering masses for that. just can't understand govt of unproductive that is competing with productive government. definitely if you are productive we shouldn't have such money and people continue to suffer under your watch, its never an achievement take note just a concern citizens |
