What is Zakaat al-fitr?
Zakat al-Fitr is the obligatory charity(in the form of staple food) taken for the poor few days before the end of fasting in the month of Ramadan.

Who should give it and What items can be used for Zakaat al-fitr?
Zakaat al-fitr is obligatory upon every Muslim who is self-supporting, if he has one saa’ or more than he needs of food for himself and his family on the day and night of Eid.

The basis for that is the report narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr, a saa’ of dates, or a saa’ of barley, upon all the Muslims, slave and free, male and female, young and old, and he commanded that it be paid before the people went out to pray.” Agreed upon; this version was narrated by al-Bukhaari.

And Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri narrated: “We used to pay zakaat al-fitr when the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was alive, a saa’ of food or a saa’ of dates or a saa’ of barley or a saa’ of raisins or a saa’ of dried yoghurt.” Agreed upon.

It is acceptable to give a saa’ of the local staple food such as rice, beans, garri, Wheat, Cassava/Yam flour, Semovita/lina, etc.

What is meant by a saa’ here is the saa’ of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), which is four times the amount that may be held in the two hands of a man of average build. If a person does not pay zakaat al-fitr, he is sinning, and he has to make it up.

This is approximately 3kg or 14 Milk tins per person. It is recommended to give on behalf of a foetus.

When is it to be given?
26/27/28th Ramadan until just before 'Eid Prayer!

To whom is Zakaat al-fitr to be given and it's importance?
Those to whom it must be given are the poor and needy. It was proven that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr as a purification for the fasting person from idle and obscene speech, and to feed the poor. Whoever gives it before the prayer, it is zakaat al-fitr, and whoever gives it after the prayer, it is ordinary charity. This was narrated by Abu Dawood and classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Can it be paid in money equivalent?
It is not permissible to pay the value in money, according to the majority of scholars; this view has the stronger evidence. Rather it must be given in the form of food, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his companions (may Allaah be pleased with them) did. This is also the view of the majority of the ummah. We ask Allaah to help us and all the Muslims to understand His religion properly and adhere to it steadfastly, and to guide us, for He is the Most Generous, Most Kind.

they should pass a law that:
1. Nigeria Police Should not be seen at the polling unit.
2. Any politician sharing money at the polling unit should be arrested, prosecute and jail
3. The INEC should be selected from clerics (Chairman/secretary) from both faith
4. there shouldn't be free movement to selected personality on election day except you are and electoral officer.
5. The cost of buying form should be drop to thousands instead of millions as stand today

Government at all level should allow justice to prevail in health sector. the problem revenging our health sector today are been fuel by our government insensitivity to different profession, a situation where government only give room for doctors alone (min of health doctor, min of health for state doctor, perm sec. min of health a doctor) to take administrative role are unhealthy, we have medical bracket that if we have multiple post, it should be share across the board so as to allow every profession participate in decision making. such policy is a grave decision that result into the state of anarchism we are today. another profession negotiating for other profession what government should pay them? no no is bad, is as if you are telling are farmer to be going to farm with Biro, while telling an official person to go with hole. that is a clear example of what's happening in Nigerian health sector

NMA is not against pay rise for anybody but ask that relativity be sacrosanct according to international best practice.. A doctor with several academic battering and fellowship struggle cannot be on same salary scale with a nurse or pharmacist.. forget the age and all, the quality of service isn't same irrespective of how old one has been in service. We must learn to respect professionalism in this country.
Johesu was formed to hang up against the doctors in the health sector because they feel with their strength they can arm twist the government.. Some of it's demands ate briddled with ego, jealousy and desire to reap where one didn't sow. The door is wide open for any who wishes to study medicine. No following short cut, go back to school and be accorded same status.

we lack sincerity of purpose in this country for doctors to rise against the demand of other health workers is pure nonsense and selfishness. in reality they should have leave the ball for both JOHESU and govt to play. if not that you people are self centred why can't you plead with govt on behalf of this people for better salary placement is unhealthy when people who are not matter in patient contact and care take higher hazard allowance than the nurses who always in contact with patients 24/7 take little, its wrong and I against such decision from federal govt to pay visiting staff more than the grand owner of the industry...the earlier the government take correction now the better for all of us or hospital remain close down...
