Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Mr. Chijioke Ihunwo, expressed doubts in an interview with The Guardian about a potential resolution between Governor Sim Fubara and his political mentor, Nyesom Wike, citing the ongoing power struggle over control of Rivers State’s resources as a significant barrier to any reconciliation.

Reflecting on a recent court decision that halted federal allocations to Rivers State, Ihunwo indicated that he and other local government leaders remain unfazed by the ruling. He stressed their commitment to preventing any single individual from monopolizing influence over both state and local government affairs.

Ihunwo accused Wike of trying to exert undue control in Rivers State, advising him to focus on his responsibilities as a minister in Abuja. He asserted that Rivers State is too significant to be treated as anyone’s personal fiefdom, emphasizing that Nigerians are paying close attention. He warned that those undermining democratic principles should proceed with caution.

Addressing the possibility of reconciliation between Fubara and Wike, Ihunwo expressed a lack of interest in any resolution, given the current tensions. “The day the court judgment stopping Rivers' allocation was delivered, Fubara was dancing at our October Thanksgiving service. So, we are not bothered,” he said. “I’m not interested in any reconciliation now, and let me also say that we will fulfill our responsibilities to ensure that our people receive the dividends they deserve for electing us as council chairmen.”
