DIFFERENT LEVELS, DIFFERENT SUBJECTS, DIFFERENT TEACHERS – SAME LESSON.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” ― Leo Buscaglia

I was taught the care of the eyes, nose, ears, skin and teeth in my primary school. I remember my attempts at drawing the eyes, teeth as a primary school pupil.

The care of the eyes, nose, ears, teeth and skin also formed part of the Junior Secondary School Curriculum – in subjects like Integrated Science, Home Economics.

My Biology Teacher in Senoir Secondary School took it further by explaining in details the working mechanism of each Sense Organ.

My Chaplain (at the University) in one of his sermon, laid emphasizes on the senses. He admonished that they must be put to good use. He made his points using this mnemonic SEE NO EVIL (EYES), SAY NO EVIL (TONGUE) and HEAR NO EVIL (EAR) – He demonstrated this by placing his hands over his eyes, mouth and ears in quick succession. Permit me to include TOUCH NO EVIL (SKIN).

Before I continue, I will like to share my first lecture as an undergraduate with you. The course was GENERAL STUDIES (GNS 101), topic centered on SKIMMING, SCANNING AND READING. The lecturer explained what each term meant and made a comparison between them.

SKIMMING is used to get the general overview of a text; it’s carried out with speed and with less concentration. He maintained that SCANNING is similar to skimming – a quick search through a document or piece of writing in order to locate a particular information. While READING takes place at a slower speed – it involves concentration......................read more http://knowbase.appswheel.com/different-levels-different-subjects-different-teac

Business / Buddy Up! - PART TWO by YemisiDebi(f): 9:56am On Oct 17, 2013
Buddy Up! - PART TWO
Ok, we continue with the point on Buddy Up!
Here is something I have learnt about money and about power; the more of it that you give away, the more of it that you have. Partnership is something that is important for young Nigerian and African entrepreneurs who are espoused to the one man business idea. We need to learn how to bring in others who have skills that complement yours and together create something greater than the sum of both of your individual efforts. At the start of your enterprise when you don’t have the financial girth to hire the right hands you need, partnership and equity are a wise option to consider.
It appears that the guys in IT domain have mastered this truth. Here is what I am saying. When Apple computers started it was the product of two Steves, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. One made the product, one knew how to sell it. When Bill Gates caught the Microsoft idea, he didn’t go all out there alone. He invited his friend Paul Allen and Steve Ballmer to join him on the adventure. Larry Elision started Oracle, and he didn’t do it alone he had Bob Miner with him.
Yahoo is the product of two guys David Filio and Jerry Yang. And what about Google? Larry Page and Sergey Brin breathed life and profit into it. Need I mention Facebook? Yes you know Mark Zuckerberg what you don’t know is that the success of Facebook is more a product of his partners Eduardo Severin and Dustin Moskowitz who was actually his roommate at Harvard [Dustin would leave Facebook years later to form what we know today as Instagram]. Ok, what of Twitter? ..................................read more http://www.townsclick.com/2013/10/buddy-up-ii.html#.Ul-l21BJOSo

Business / Buddy Up! -part One by YemisiDebi(f): 1:46pm On Oct 15, 2013
BUDDY UP! -PART ONE

I recall several years ago, I decided to start a nursery/garden. After about a month of laboring at it, I gave up on my effort, I was exhausted and frustrated. some two years later I tried again having learnt why I failed the first time and my nursery was an envy. Here is what I did? I enlisted the service of all else that I could to help me at one stage or the other of the process.
Initially I chose to do it all alone because I just didn’t know a better way; wanting it all and trying to be it all. You see I had the skill needed to raise various kinds of flowers, but to think that that singular skill was all that I needed to create a great nursery was where I got it wrong. It requires much more than just the skill of raising flowers to create a great nursery or make money from flowers. I had the skill, but I needed many other skills that was required and which I just did not have. So after getting over my first failure I sat down and itemized what skills I needed, what skills I lacked and who could fill the void for me and that made it work.
Here are some lessons you will find useful as a young person with an ambition to dare and do something great in future or any time soon, especially if you really desire to be an entrepreneur, you do well to take these truths to heart.
1. There is only so much anyone can do all alone. Don’t even try. You will get frustrated. Even when you think you are succeeding you’ll discover that another part of your life is suffering for it, this need not be so. Do not get too fixated on anything in such a way that your life tilts out of balance. Understand that you are human, with the limitations of time and a body.
2. It takes more than a singular skill to succeed. Not realizing this fact is the reason we have many people with great ideas who end up amounting to nothing. That you came up with an idea does not mean you have the power and skill to execute it. It will be wise to bring in someone who has other needed skills to make your dream a reality.
3. You don’t have all the skill set needed to achieve your goal inherent in you. So take inventory of your skills and strength...............read more http://www.townsclick.com/2013/10/buddy-up-part-one.html#.Ul043VBJOSo
Business / Make Meaning Not Money by YemisiDebi(f): 12:47pm On Oct 15, 2013
Make Meaning Not Money

Well yes, you got it. Your business should set out to make Meaning not just money. OK, it's true there are no jobs and so we made a case for entrepreneurship. But then it needs to be said that business has its ethic and codes. Here is one sure code you must take to heart if you want to succeed: don't let hunger or desperation be your driving force for going into business. Seek to make Meaning and let your drive for Meaning be more than your drive for money. It's easy to tell which is the driving force of a business just by observation.
Putting money ahead takes you down the wrong path, it makes you attract the wrong people, and make the wrong decisions, you treat your clients badly because your focus is on money and not people. When you have money as your drive you attract hungry people who also want money, but if you are in it for meaning you will attract people who are passionate about your idea and will help you grow your enterprise. It's a poor business that makes only money it does not matter how much is declared in profits.
To make meaning your enterprise must do one of the following: Right a wrong; Make life better and easier; Make a good thing continue or never end. Businesses that make meaning are the ones that grow big and global. When you are genuinely concerned about people and solving their problems and easing their pains, they will be too glad to make you rich.
I wasn’t one of Alhaji Dangote fans for a long time because his path to wealth was not the typical rag to riches story [well, now I realize that the measure of success is not necessarily the rag riches model] But one day I heard him grant an......................read more http://www.townsclick.com/2013/10/make-meaning-not-money.html#.Ul0qFVBJOSo
