Good evening house,

Nairaland has helped lots of people find solution to their problem, I hope I'm as lucky as others.

Over the last couple of years I noticed my vision declining everyday.
I think I started taking notice of it more when I was In 100l, if I don't sit right in front of the class, I don't see whatever is written on the board.

I have gone to the hospital where they were just interested in selling recommended glass which I have used up till now that I have graduated but no visible improvement.

It is so bad that I don't see subtitles when watching movies on TV.

Many times, people pass and wave at me from afar and I will see the person waving but the face will be blurry.

But when reading, I don't use glasses because I can see very well no matter how Tiny the writing may be.
Short sightedness

Go to government owned general hospital or reputable specialist clinic for the eyes

Thank God you have stylishly acknowledged my point and at least learned something from me.

I'm not saying Government is using the tax as expected of them, or praising any politician here nor justifying the abnormalities in the country.

All I'm saying is tax payment is an essential part of any economy and there is nothing excessive in our country compared to other developed countries.

There is no way you will be making money from a country and won't pay tax (this will only be a debate in a country that's still in 17th century). Irrespective of the consequential Implication, you can't dodge the reality.

NB: The fact that the subscribers indirectly pay their own price shouldn't exempt the cable providers from tax (Or should they not pay tax so that consumers wont be affected?). Price regulations/Consumer protection is a topic for another day.

Regards
in Nigeria of today? grin

Exactly my anger. This admin is just a bunch of thieves. Some time last year, they came with similar idea such that they wanted to be taxing people who run ads via facebook.

In their mind, they think it was something like the offline business that they enjoy frustrating... I was just there wondering how they are gonna implement it. One person took them to court and they lost the case. Though some guys were panicking but I told them not to worry because they can not implement it because they lack the system to do that.

As far as this internet thing is concerned, whoever came up with the idea (like a thieve) in on a wild goose chase cos they will waste their time. They are always looking for where to steal.

Yimu.. they can not do shiiit... They do not have a site here. Why would you block something you have no alternative to?

Do you think telcos will all such? do u know the amount of businesses that depend on social media for promotion? kuku tell them to shut the internet access in Nigeria.

See how you are even reasoning? very annoying... must you tax everybody to death before you generate anything? why must fix your eyes like thieve in people's hustles, they have frustrated Uber out of lagos, gokada, oride and all innovative start ups, they have killed small logistics companies.. you think all these is normal?

Wait until they they tax the oxygen you breathe before you will know what hits you
This is what we are saying

There are other meaningful ways this government can generate huge income but they always want shortcut

It's proven that throughout the world, south Western part of this country has lots of medicinal plants that good for human consumption but govenmnet can't spend money on research instead they prefer to spend money looking for crude oil in lake Chad

We have large parcel of fertile land but government has refused to grow anything on it

In the past, Nigeria is the largest exporter of cocoa but now the case is different

Someday you will realize I am actually the one telling you the fact. It's a pity you won't come back to acknowledge my points.

When you leave the shores of Nigeria and get to developed countries, you will understand the full concept of tax, its implication on the economy of the nation, and why your perspective about tax isn't feasible.

Till then, best of luck
I'm sorry, I've been out of this country and do business in 3 different countries presently. I know implication of tax but it's unfortunate that you are yet to come to terms that Nigerians are paying heavy tax with nothing to show for it

Cars is cheap in Canada because import duty there is very low whereas used cars is very expensive in Nigeria because import duty is on high side. Same thing goes to lots of imported products, nobody is talking about toothpick here even almighty America do import so please don't tell me patronize naija things. Import duty was part of tax if you care to listen and directly or indirectly, you as final consumer of all imported products pay tax

Go to Dubai or ask anyone living in dubai to tell you how much they pay as tax, & compare Dubai with Nigeria.

Nigeria is taking loans that will be shared among few people while hard working poor Nigerians repay the loan

See, not until you begin to reason like common man and not praise singer of politician before you begin to see things the way common man sees it

I have container coming from China as we speak and I pray I remember your moniker when I wanna clear it, I will show you what we paid some years back as against what we pay now

Bottom line, EXCESSIVE TAX HAS NEVER BE OF ANY USE IN THE LIFE OF COMMON NIGERIANS

Where I lives, we hired both police & local vigilante offices to guard our area when government has failed to provide security which was part of the reason we pay tax

See, am tired of educating you

Don't even go to saying advance country bla bla bla, am not local bro

In advance country, people see what government spent their tax on and that's not the case here in Nigeria

What's minimum wage in advance country that you mentioned compared to this place?

I ASK AGAIN, WHO PAYS TAX LEVIED ON CABLE TV OPERATORS, SUBSCRIBERS OR OPERATORS?

how will Facebook, Google etc pass the tax if you don't use any of their pay to use services?

they should stop operating in Nigeria if they are not ready to pay tax
Mr, you are not getting it at all

Let me break it down for you to understand

Let's assume you pay 1k for your ads to reach 10,000 people, now Facebook can either add like 50naira to that 1000naira payment making 1050 for your ads to reach 10,000 people or they reduce numbers of audience tour 1000naira ads will reach from 10,000people to 9500people.

At the end, it's Nigeria that still pays

Do you get it now?

I wonder why some of you nairalanders can stop showing lack of courtesy. Can't you make a point with sound etiquette without Insulting?

Meanwhile, if you are being charged as a business person, it is part of your operational cost and of course, you are charging your customer for the service. So it isn't a loss except you don't understand business.

Do I need to explain that?

What you are complaining of is happening everywhere around the world. It is the norm. Common man won't suffer such tax by using those social media platforms but those doing business with them in terms of advertising.

So, since it is business, refer to my explanation above
What you failed to understand is that it's not every business that you passed burden of rubbish tax on your customer

Take for instance exchange business, in some instances you will e unable to fulfil some order and there will be need for you to refund customer now tell me you as a customer, I was unable to fulfil order but still want to deduct money from your payment, how would you feel?

I doubt you are a business man anyway so I will leave you to your things

Mind you, I know what am saying when I complain about excessive tax

Go and ask importers how far and they will tell you whats up

I won't argue with you any further because you seems not to understand what we are discussing here

Gotv & dstv passed the tax to their subscriber, so who's paying the tax at the end of the day? Company or subscribers(Nigerians)?

Are Nigerians not paying enough tax before?

Why killing us with heavy tax with nothing to show for it?

Because they must pay tax then we kill Nigerians with tax?

Ose!! Chairman of the stamp duty payer association of Nigeria.

You must have transacted over 3000 times (April to June) to buy a land of 150k in a village

Salute Baba
Some have lost over 500k

If you do business that requires moving of money into your account then you will understand what am saying

Ask any eccurency exchanger around you the numbers of credit & debit transactions they have each day. In a day you can have over 100 transactions!

Use your head

Check below image, USA govt imposed tax on ebay purchase but it's customer that ended up paying the tax

Gotv & dstv subscription should tells you who's paying the tax imposed on the company by FG

Nigerians!!!

This is the new norm, every country is doing it now. You can’t be making money from a country and not pay tax!

Every foreign purchase from eBay or Amazon is subjected to online tax, which mean you paying tax to that country, because it’s a law.

Same thing should apply in Nigeria as well, online companies irrespective of where they are based or located should pay tax for income originating from Nigeria.
What you failed to realize is that these firm passed the tax on innocent Nigerians after we've paid many tax e.g 7.5VAT on everything including data you use to browse these websites, 50naira stamp duty on every deposit on your bank account including savings account

Check the inage below to understand you don't really understand what you are saying, the image below shows eBay order whereby USA government charges tax but paid by consumer, same applies to when government stated to charge all these useless tax, Facebook, Netflix & the likes will ask you to pay tax. I use gotv & every subscription now comes with tax which is paid by the subscribers.

So tell me, who's paying these taxes at the end of the day other than immocent Nigerians?

If you have gotv or dstv at home, try and subscribe & see you will be taxed

Is the new law made to tax your data or tax the companies making money from Nigeria? If Nairaland is paying taxes in Nigeria, why should Facebook, Netflix, Twitter etc not pay taxes from the revenue made in Nigeria?

Are these companies paying taxes in Europe or not? So, why should they not pay taxes in Nigeria despite generating income from the country?

Will the next government not benefit from the tax reforms that the current government is carrying out? Must you guys criticize everything?

See, this new law is long overdue. It should have been in place a long time ago.
I think you have access to FG, please tell FG to stop stealing 50naira on every deposit on our savings bank account. These tax is becoming excessive & if proper care is not taken, they will find other useless things to tax us on. Imagine saying we'll pay tax for using Whatsapp, it's in the news & on the internet. Facebook can suspend her services from Nigeria & I can tell you it's Nigeria business owners that will suffer
