There was a school in California you were considering - Riverside or Irvine, why did you not send your scores to them?

Personally, her telling you to apply is because the filter will not eliminate you at 163- Q nor will the V aspect be a red flag. In this light, I believe every one who gets 161 and above in the Q will not be eliminated.

Remember that the GRE is just one aspect? After this GRE phase, the next thing will probably be GPA. GPA for both undergrad and grad school. You have both on lock too.

The other aspects of your app like SOP, LORs, Publications will now be deciding factors and in a closecall, that is when they may use someone's higher GPA or GRE score to select them over you.

The synopsis of all I am saying is, you stand a chance.
thanks. Actually I didnt send my score to the California school. I felt it's a bit low for their average. Well I really don't know about UIUC, but what would be your advice? Again can you suggest any other school with good funding prospect?
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Yildiz: 9:47am On Nov 16, 2017
Now please gurus in the house help me analyze this issue, I previously contacted grad coordinator at UIUC and she said most of their admits are in the 90th percentile of quantitative. Today I send her a message that I scored 163, do I stand a chance and she said yes. Then she added that they normally receive about 2000 applications per year and admit 150-250. Do you think I should still apply?
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Yildiz: 9:44am On Nov 16, 2017
On the test day I got to the venue around 9:30 and the exam started at about 10am. The analytical writing questions were fair and I have personal experiences I can relate with, I hope I achieve a 4 or 4.5 there. I then got QVQVQ. I heart skipped a beat when I saw Q as my first section. Anyway I finished the whole 20 question, revisited then and still got some minutes left. Likely that was my first Q. The verbal sections were relatively easy. But the second Q was tough. I couldn't actually figure out how to answer like 5 questions there. The third Q was also not soo difficult. At the end I got Q-163. V-159. I sent my scores to KSU, gatech, UIC, and UPenn.
Finally I want to thank everyone here for your encouragement and support. The books you all shared and the experiences. I owe my success to this thread and the numerous valuable contributors. Thanks alot

Okay. My experience goes like this. I started serious study 2 months ago after writing TOEFL and securing most of the books for GRE. I followed a different reading strategy. I didn't start by measuring my performance maybe because I already have a first hand experience of the exams. I read through Nova maths bible, then studied the whole 6 Manhattan books. I practiced all the questions in the Manhattan 5lb book. All that took me like one month. I decided to take the powerprep test and scored 163-Q 148-V. Then I moved on to the verbal, I used basically Princeton and Magoosh videos coupled with some android app all for the verbal. Meanwhile I practiced the analytical writing several times. Also got an app that has lots of AWA topics. Last Saturday I took the second powerprep test and performed really bad. I got 159-Q and 153-V. Well I said to myself this is not a true representation of my preparedness. I ignored the whole GRE stuff until 2 days ago on my way to Abuja I practiced whatever came to my mind.

Thanks all for the constant interest you have in my cowpea. Am not a good writer so please bear with me. I will do everything in my power to explain how it all went and where we are now.
It's approximately 15 weeks since I planted and am yet to harvest. The late variety of cowpea normally takes that much time but hopely I will be harvesting in 2 to 3 weeks time.
The journey so far has been good really but definitely stressful. I will start with the challenges, the most important one is insects, throughout my investigation i was made to understand that i need insecticides 2 or 3 times only but currently i have sprayed insecticides 6 times. The pests have been really annoying. I used basic two types of insecticides and one fungicide; Lara Force, Magic Force and Imi Force.

Hello bro. Do you have the offline Powerprep test? I got an error message after getting past the issue and argument task on the online Powerprep. I really do not know what the problem is. I have mailed them though, but I am yet to get a response.
If you have the offline Powerprep test don't hesitate to share with me. Thanks.
This post also goes out to all those who may be of help.

Thanks
I don't have the offline version. Similar thing happened to me with the online version but it worked the following day. Probably they are having technical challenges

Hi. Are you applying to Georgia Tech?
I doubt
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Yildiz: 2:20pm On Oct 30, 2017
Georgia Tech minimum AWA is 3.5
Scholastica16:

Order of importance;
Speaking
Listening
Reading
Writing.

Congrats. The writing is last because TOEFL requirements for top writing scores are kind of facile. The speaking and listening are what they want to be sure you can do because it is important for TAs. The reading is okay, but your VR of the GRE is more important to them.

Ask the grad coord for minimum AWA. Michigan State was 3.0. Some other programs are 3.5 and others 4.0.

Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Yildiz: 5:22pm On Sep 26, 2017
Actually based on accept on gradcafe most schools value publication for PhD application. I believe 167 is doable also. Thanks for the encouragement
Scholastica16:

Publications help PhD apps better sef. But that 167 is very doable as well as the 4.5. Just try to be perfect in your first Q. I have a conjecture on how GRE scales scores though it is not fool-proof but every thing seems predicated on the first section.

If you get 20/20 in the first Q and 15-17/20 in the second your scaled score could be between 164-168. Yet someone else with 18/20 and 18/20 in the second would get between 163-167.

The first section is usually easy and you would most likely have time to revisit all your questions when done. Please, don't feel like some Maths Savant; make sure you review almost all your questions. You might see silly mistakes that you made especially in the Qty comparison section.

As for section 2, just pray. There are usually too many traps and pitfalls. Also pray you get 2 Quant sections and 3 VRs (1 experimental) so you would know what you are vying for. In my first GRE, I played with my last Q as I thought it was my experimental section. I still bite my finger in regret. I got 12/20 in it and 19/20 in the first section and my scaled score was 162. I knew that section I played with had to be the experimental because the diagnostics showed that I failed numbers 17-20 down (I did not attempt them at all lipsrsealed cry)
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Yildiz: 2:55pm On Sep 26, 2017
I did as you said. I searched gradcafe and from the look of things I have a chance because I have good publications. Also am sure of two nice LOR. All I need to do now is ace GRE quantitative with atleast 167 and analytic writing 4.5. Hopefully with prayers I could get in.
Scholastica16:

I don't know much about the school but their engineering programs are rated well. Also, you won't have any issues with funding if you are admitted. The acceptance rate online says 25-30% for grad programs but it could be whittled down to something relatable to you if you contacted the grad coordinator for this information.

As a rule of thumb, I check the reddit pages of my prospective schools and then I also calculate a rough estimate of the acceptance rate by counting the rejects and accepts for PhD programs on grad cafe.

You may want to search 'UCSD or UC San Diego Electrical Engineering' on the grad cafe search box and make sure the search runs for all times. You can even know the profiles of some accepted/rejected students if you click that red diamond icon by the side.
