The status on the portal says refused, not even admin processing 🥹. And passport was sent back, in the passport a 221g letter requested to schedule another interview with no additional documents requested, but that was before the whole migration to the new portal.

Now migration has not been completed ( have not received any email) , missed the fall sememster, and spring is around the corner again. 🥺
Why not go ahead and create profile on new portal and schedule interview?

Hello guys, please I need clarification, while filling my ds-120, I indicated that I have made travel plans and used earliest admission date as my arrival date. Can I use my program completion date as the date of departure? Is this advisable? Please someone should put me through..

Hello, I booked for Abuja consulate in my ds160 but am yet to get a Favourable date and my school resumes 14 January. Is it advisable to book for appointment in Lagos embassy since there are good dates there OR I should go for expedited booking at the Abuja embassy ?
Your candid advice is urgently needed.
Pick Lagos date. I know two people who picked Lagos dates and got approved this week

Thanks sis! Congratulations on your visa

What people don’t realize is that student f1 experience is different from visiting B1/B2. I would never visit visiting visa thread and give advice because I don’t know anything about it.

Me advising against listing your USA siblings in your application in F1 is totally different for folks in B1/B2 because that is their main point that strengthens their application. So you see why it’s best to tailor advice based on the type of visa.
Please drop your questions here so we can all weigh in. I don’t want private conversations. Thanks

Please can you guys just help me out cos I’m still confused, does anyone knows anyone that has a siblings in the US but still said No in their DS 160 and was approved so I can just stick to the No and if you think I should change it back to yes, is there anything I can say to defend why I said No before please, I’m stocked and my next visa interview is in few days so I need to submit my Ds 160 asap
My main question to you is what has changed in your profile since your denial? Did you get any funding or you are still going with your daddy story? That should be your number 1 priority before you attend another interview. Also has your answers be more refined than the generic ones you gave the last time?

Regarding your siblings, everybody has given advice on why you should/shouldn’t declare them. It’s left to you to pick which of the advice you deem fit. That’s the logic behind advice for you to make a choice not expecting someone to make the choice for you. Even thou we disagree with the opinions, that is how life operates, you are the sole decision maker in this.

All the best in your interview

Good evening all.
Asking for a friend. My friend registered on Avits website and was able to book an appointment for interview date on the 27 of this month, but he just noticed that he made a typing error by inputting a wrong passport data page number on his appointment letter, he typed 210 instead of 201 as end of the passport number.
Although on the visa fee receipt and DS 160 form the passport number is currently written but only the one on the appointment letter that is wrong. Please I will really appreciate it if someone can help on how to make the correction or if there is any possible advice on what can be. Thank you all.
Since it’s just the appointment confirmation that had the error, he should be good to go. He can also drop inquiry on the portal to ask them to change it for him.

Hello everyone, If a person’s interview is rescheduled on the night of her interview, yet the portal is still showing the original date, what do you advise her to do?
Secondly, she and the Child (3 years old) date were separated, with a day difference. What advice do you have for her? Can she be allowed to do the interview on the same day with the child? They both have the same date and time before before suddenly they got reschedule email on the night proceeding the date of the the initial interview. Any one has experienced this before?
Not sure of my answer but if I were you, I’d go to the embassy the next day and see if I get attended to just to be safe.

lol! Derogatory you mean? I laugh in Spanish 🤣🤣🤣 I quoted Shueld06, he didn’t have issue with it but you that I never directed my opinion to or attack, is pointing out derogatory remarks. Bravo!

And for the record, if you check the meaning of ditching, you would understand my statement. *ditching useless advice* that I said in that statement means leaving our own advice of not declaring your siblings in your application (our advice was the useless one I was referring to). So check dictionary and let me know who I made derogatory remarks to.

I am sure no one has claimed to be the plethora of knowledge/advice however, I find it funny when you try discount the opinion of others. It is a platform, share your opinion and leave others to share theirs. It is left for each reader to pick what they think work best for them.
Did I force my opinion on others? Leave it or take it no be by force

do you know if her sister previously mentioned the applicant as her sister and the same parents in her immigration applications? US is not Nigeria that has no track record. If she has been mentioned in her sisters immigration application before, it wouldn't take any effort to do a quick search and link the two. There's enough time from when you submit your ds160 till your appointment date for them to run background checks on you. The 2 mins interview you have is only like 20% of the decision. Decision is usually even made before your arrival. Again this my take and to counter that no take is 100% accurate. Everyone should be allowed to share their opinion respectfully.
Where did you ever see on the ds-160 asking applicants about their siblings in Nigeriahuh Please let me know how it’s possible to declare/list your siblings that are in still in Nigeria. Ds-160 only ask of parents info (in Nigeria or not) and siblings that are in US.

Even green card application doesn’t ask your outside the country siblings.

Yall should stop being this way for once!

Mobil567, this is also for you

How will a VO be so sure someone who got a visa 10yrs ago is your family member when the said individual didn’t mention ur full name nor upload your picture? Even if they mention ur full name, the CLASS system the embassy uses isn’t able to match these things and the embassy do not even care. How can the VO match these things? Just how? Just like someone said everyone in the US is being monitored in their room and the government is watching what everyone is doing in their room and that’s why he can’t offer immigration advice on call or chat cuz the government in the US see all things.. you see how that sounds ridiculous? Yeah the same way your assertion sounds

(2) mentioning you have a family member: here’s what’s going to happen.. the VO will want to know more and ask you how they got to the US and when,, they’ll know it they’ve overstayed or not or they can simply search their name in the CLASS system.. if they overstay their visa or they now get green card in some ways, the VO can judge you using that or they might not., it’s a two way thing.. that’s why some people just advise not to

This individual was denied for other reasons. Sometimes you even get denied for no reason at all!
Please leave them! I await their arrival from the interview. The ones claiming they know better by ditching useless advice won’t provide help when the time comes.
The main reason I see in that denial was funding but since they are all claiming he should go fill another interview without addressing that instead he should go claim his sister that stayed behind in US. Goodluck to them!!!

If you all take time to read past years on this thread, you will learn your lesson on why you should focus on funding as your number one priority and know that no VO has ridiculous information of linking your siblings with you unless you want to put yourself in that difficult situation.

Do you think parent's information is not sufficient to tag siblings?
The VOs don’t time to start going through all applicants parents names to match siblings. Moreover you know how many applicants they receive daily? Also they are not same year of application so how do you think they would use that to match siblings?

Also, I advise based on experience so it’s not a matter of try your luck advise. It’s up to anyone to take it or leave it. No be military zone here!

I get you . But what about this : You are on F1 in the US doing MSc with the intention to come and get a job in a very good organisation in Nigeria. Then all of a sudden, Microsoft in the US or Apple America offers you are genuine long term employment as a result of your cgp distinction, will you reject the job ?

After accepting the offer , do you want to tell us that it was your intention to stay behind ? We should stop deceiving ourselves. Everyone including myself is looking for a better future.
Goodluck with your better future. All the best!
I’m not the one seeking visa, na advice I drop

@Cyfar

It is now permissible to fill another ds form 160 and take the old and the new ds form 160 slips to your appointment.

It is not a bad omen to mention your family in America , you cannot just be disassociating yourself from your siblings because you want to create visa success background. Like someone have writing here B4, no matter the crime of your family member , you will not be hold accountable for it if you are qualify for your own visa. Can't we see the sample of Americans freedom of rights in the just concluded election?

If your brother advanced from F1 to H1b with due legal process there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It will not affect your own visa. Your own intentions and qualifications is the business of the visa officer. The only aspect that can affect anyone with same family name is when one is a hardened criminal or well known criminal.
Take this advice if you are ready to gamble with your interview. Either your family uses legal or not is not the issue here! Your sibling used F1 route to stay behind and you expect the VO who is human to believe you will not follow same legal route? F1 is non-immigrant with intention of returning!!!
You can decide to gamble it sha
Just my own small piece of advice

Please help!!

I didn’t mention in my DS-160 form that my older brother lives in the U.S. Can I fill out a new DS-160 with that information and bring both forms to my interview? I’m concerned that if they ask me about family in the U.S. and I say no, they might already have my brother's information in the system, which could make me look dishonest. But if I say yes, it would create inconsistencies since I didn’t include him in my DS-160.
For context, I’ll be going for my F-1 visa interview. My brother was also an F-1 student but is now on an H-1B visa working full-time.
It’s better not to mention your brother because he stayed back which shows you will do the same. F1 is non-immigrant visa which means you must return after study. Also that’s why you get asked, what’s your plan after getting the degree? They wanna know your intent of returning.
Nobody ties your brother with you unless you mention it. Americans don’t assume that because you bear same surname, you are brothers.

You that is talking show me your approved VISA that you got at first attempt. All the questions you asked were properly answered including stating my employer makes a revenue of 1.3 billion naira monthly. This VO was just over herself. The guy before me was as genuine as any human on earth could be. But he got rejected. Even people in their 70's going on visits got rejected. They don't trust Nigerians and it’s in their mindset.
I feel your pain but don’t dwell too much on it. 90% of time, VOs don’t approve employer sponsored (I stand to be corrected with facts!). I would advise you try getting any funding or look into another school that offer funding. Going back with employer sponsor story won’t fly again. Sorry about your refusal but don’t give up.

Quick question - Do I need to schedule an appointment (like... pick a date) before I can start a new application for my dependent?
PS: My preapproval request has been approved.
From what I understand from a friend. He was told he can’t schedule both himself and wife on the same profile. So he booked same date and time with their respective profiles and intend to attend together. He opted for in-person because of his wife even thou he qualified for interview waiver. Hope this helps!
