Good evening yall . I was supposed to be travelling this Fall after obtaining my F-1 visa since April. Unfortunately, the fund I was supposed to be working with was withdrawn from my PI. I could no longer proceed as I don’t want to go and constitute nuisance in the US (I don’t have money to sponsor myself). Note that this is my second time of not being able to use an F-1 visa as I couldn’t use the first one issued in January cuz I was sick and hospitalized completely.

I just want an honest opinion as I’m about to give up completely on US Schools...how do you all feel about this? I wish to apply for another admission and proceed to get a new visa..do you think the VO will think I’m not serious? What do you feel about this? If you were the VO, will you take this kind of person seriously?

My little piece of advice is stop wasting your visa chances. Get here and talk to other professors in the department for funding or apply to other schools while you are already here. Staying back in Nigeria doesn’t solve anything and giving up at the first challenge means you never wanted to study from the beginning!

You’re beneath me. Irritant peasant.

Congrats on your history lesson fool! Yes I got here in 2020 and I have achieved more than what you idiot has been scrambling for since 2008. It’s not how far but how well. Now I know you truly a dimwit with empty skull. Be here on Nairaland dragging seniority Irritant Peasant chairman!

This is one of the reasons they send clowns like you to take some undergrad level writing classes so you can catch up. I can already sense the heavy "h" factor in your writings.

Irritant peasants!

You are the biggest fool I have ever encountered. “H” factor or not, sense is not in your empty skull. Reply as usual because I have time, you birdbrain nincompoop!

If you were as successful as you claim to be in the US, you wouldn't be here bragging about nonsense. I've followed this thread and noticed you write like the dimwit you are. Just because others have a different opinion on a subject doesn't warrant you insulting them.

Nobody forces you to give advice on NL, so shove your egotistical arrogance where it belongs: in the trash!

Mr know-it-all!

Please leave peasant word alone. You have used it in all your responses that it’s no longer useful. We want new insults to make the bragging more interesting.

NB: I definitely know you will insult me too but I no mind sha don’t use your atenumo insult “irritant peasant” đŸ€Ș

Politics / Open Letter To The Government Of Ekiti State On Payment Of Pensioners' Gratuity by yinkhar(f): 7:39pm On Feb 09
To the Governor of Ekiti-State, Nigeria,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I write to you today with a heavy heart, burdened by the plight of countless pensioners who have dedicated their lives in service to our beloved nation, Nigeria. It is with great concern and urgency that I address the issue of unpaid gratuity to retired civil servants, a matter that has sadly lingered for far too long.

My mother, among many others, faithfully served the nation for decades, selflessly contributing her time, energy, and expertise to various governmental endeavors. Her retirement in 2015 was meant to be a time of well-deserved rest and security, yet she finds herself and numerous other retirees at the mercy of every governor that has ever ascended the office since 2015, pleading for their rightful dues. This situation is not only disheartening but also disgraceful.

The failure to promptly pay pensioners their gratuity raises profound questions about the values and principles upon which governance in our state is founded. Must our elderly citizens endure such hardship and uncertainty after a lifetime of service? Is this the reward they deserve for their dedication and sacrifice?

It is imperative to recognize that pensioners are not mere statistics; they are the backbone of our nation's progress and development. Their contributions, both during their active service and in retirement, should be honored and respected. Denying them their rightful gratuity undermines the very essence of justice and fairness in our society.

Therefore, I implore you, esteemed government officials, to take immediate action to address this pressing issue. Prioritize the payment of pensioners' gratuity without further delay, ensuring that they can live out their retirement years with dignity and peace of mind. This is not just a matter of financial compensation; it is a matter of upholding the basic principles of humanity and compassion.

Let us demonstrate to the world that governance in Ekiti-State is characterized by accountability, transparency, and empathy. Let us show our elderly citizens that their contributions are valued and appreciated, not disregarded and forgotten.

I urge you to heed this call for justice and act swiftly to alleviate the suffering of pensioners across our state. The time for decisive action is now. Our pensioners deserve better, and it is within your power to make a positive difference in their lives.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Yours sincerely,
Olayinka M Olajiga

It’s funny that one is blindly giving advice and not yielding to correction.

For the record, I came to the USA three years ago on student visa so you either take my advice or leave it!

For the question regarding who is sponsoring your trip on DS-160, the right answer is “THE SCHOOL” if you are on full funding. “SELF or RELATIVE” (your choice) if no funding.

VO is not interested in who is paying for your flight to US. The question is about who is responsible for the whole travel experience which is your schooling (tuition, feeding, accommodation etc).

I'm here to seek advice and recommendations on what we could do better for a tourist visa interview.

Backgound:
My wife and I welcomed a baby last week and we are inviting my mum to visit for about 4 weeks. Her interview is coming up first week of September in Lagos, I don't want her to miss this opportunity. The problem is that she had gone with my Dad in March 2023 for a tourist visa and both were denied for lack of sufficient home ties.

Additionally, my inlaws went for US visa interview this August 2023 for a tourist visa to visit their new grandson and both were denied. My inlaws did everything right in my opinion, they both had very great jobs, landed property, and business and all their kids apart from my wife are in Nigeria and the VO denied them on the grounds of lack of sufficient home ties. I'm very confused regarding what the VO is seeking as evidence of home ties.

Due to the above experience from my parents and in-laws who were both denied tourist visas, I'm sharing the responses my Mum is preparing to provide the VO for your input.
Note: This time around my mum will be going for the interview alone, not with my dad as she previously did.

Answers she is preparing to provide
VO: May I have your passport
Mum: Passes her passport

VO: What do you want to go and do in the USA
Mum: I wantt to see my newly born grandson. My son and my daughter in law had a baby in August.

VO: How long do you intend to stay in the USA
Mum: I will be visiting for 4-weeks

VO: Where will you be staying is USA
Mum: I will be staying with my Son and his family in California

VO: What does he son do
Mum: He work in xxxx company as a Software Engieer

VO:
Mum:

VO: Who will be sponsoring your trip
Mum: My husband will be sponsoring imy trip. I also have some personal savings as well.

VO: What does your husband do
Mum: He is retired from Public service. He worked in our State Post Primary School Management Board as a Supervising Principal

VO: What do you do
Mum: I'm a retired secondary school principal and now work as a full-time Catechism teacher at our local parish, I am also a laity leader in the Carmelite missionary community

VO: Do you have other relatives in the US
Mum: Yes I have another son who also lives in California

VO: How many children do you have
Mum: I have x number of kids

VO: Where are all your kids
Mum: 2 in US, 1 in Canada, 1 in UK and rest in Naija

VO: What are you childred doing
Mum: Explains

VO: Why are you not travellin with your husband
Mum: He just had a surgery and was adviced not to travel now

Kindly review these proposed answers and let me know if we are missing something.

Let your mom ask for an interpreter. Let her speak her native language that she is confident of explaining well then the interpreter does the job of explaining to the VO. It works wonders sometimes because they won’t want to ask her too much questions due to interpreting stress

I submitted my passport for stamping since 2 weeks ago but know response from VFS since. I checked my account today and I saw closed . Do anyone know the meaning of closed ?

It means your passport is ready for collection but no mail was sent to you. Go to collection center and don’t indicate that you didn’t get the mail. Same thing happened to my sister and she got the stamped passport when she went to the collection center.

Hello House,

What can one provide as purpose of travel? This friend of mine is an accompanying spouse travelling with her husband who is the principal applicant for purpose of studies. The examples IRCC provided are Flight ticket, Itinerary like hotel reservations and proof of medical appointment. She do not have any of this!

She can make hotel reservation without payment (payment upon arrival option) and use the reservation for her visa application

Good evening guys... A friend of mine in the US helped me pay the SEVIS fee using the POSTAL MONEY ORDER since the 3rd of this month and it hasn't reflected till this moment.... My interview is in 2days time.. can I still go ahead with the interview or I should just cancel the appointment
Why couldn’t the friend use western Union that is faster? Without sevis payment receipt, you won’t be allowed for interview so you have to perform some magic to get it before your interview day.
In this era of scarce interview date, I don’t know how you will get another date before resumption

Good morning everyone.
Please is it compulsory that I submit my filled DS-160 before getting a date?
I already filled the form on CGI and I am awaiting an amendment to my I-20 which I will use in completing my DS-160.

CGI said it's reviewing my application since Wednesday last week, still waiting for their email.

Please, I need clarification. Thank you.

No, submitting DS-160 or not does not affect your interview date selection. You just have to submit the DS-160 at least 72hours before you go for your interview

Yes. If your I-20 is still valid, you have to reapply for visa but might not attend interview by using drop box
