Lexus is proud to unveil details of the all-new 2023 RZ 450e, the luxury brand’s first global Battery EV (BEV). Since the launch of the RX400h in 2005, Lexus has been a pioneer of electrification within the luxury market. As with the first RX hybrid model, Lexus engineers have imbued the brand’s hybrid vehicles with an excellent driving identity and environmental performance. Under the ‘Lexus Electrified’ vision, Lexus aims to invigorate all guests’ authentic love for driving exhilaration, and in doing so, will broaden its Lexus Electrified portfolio of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) products to exceed the needs and expectations of a more diverse set of luxury buyers. The portfolio expansion will move Lexus toward another essential goal: The realization of a sustainable global society. Lexus will contribute to achieving a carbon-neutral society by offering a full lineup of BEVs in all categories by 2030. Five years later, Lexus seeks to attain 100% BEV sales globally. To meet these challenges, Lexus will rigorously improve its products, along with the expertise of its personnel, by repeating “drive and fix” development at Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama (TTCS), Lexus’ new operational base. “We believe that Lexus, an established luxury automaker, should continue pursuing the creation of exciting cars while respecting nature and the global environment to achieve a carbon-neutral society,” said Takashi Watanabe, chief engineer, ‘Lexus Electrified’, Lexus International. “The RZ has been developed with the aim of creating a uniquely Lexus BEV that feels secure to ride in, is pleasing to the touch, and is exhilarating to drive. DIRECT4, the core technology of ‘Lexus Electrified,’ is all-wheel drive system that achieves quick and linear response according to driver input. We will continue to take on the challenge of providing customers with new experiences and a uniquely Lexus BEV driving experience.” As Lexus’ first global BEV model, the all-new RZ marks Lexus’ transition into a BEV-centered brand, and it embodies the unique Lexus vehicle design and driving experience made available through advanced, electrified technology. The utilization of a BEV-specific platform (e-TNGA), as well as a lightweight and highly rigid body, has enhanced the fundamental performance of the vehicle by achieving optimal weight distribution through ideal placement of the battery and motor. In addition, the DIRECT4 all-wheel drive system and the adoption of a new steering control and available Steer by Wire system enable vehicle control that is more true to the driver’s intention. The exterior design expresses the seamless acceleration and dynamic torque-filled performance specific to BEVs. Lexus’ identifiable spindle grille is replaced by a BEV Spindle Body. The new front bumper design focuses on aerodynamic efficiencies, optimized proportions and style, versus serving the cooling and exhaust needs of an internal combustion engine. This styling evolution ushers in a new Lexus aesthetic and establishes a new design direction for BEV offerings. Within the spindle body is a minimalist, spacious interior focused on amplifying a sustainable mobility message and Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) through its application of mindfully sourced materials. Though simplistic, the space is luxurious thanks to its crafted touches and advanced technologies. In addition, the cabin features a standard panoramic roof which visually opens the space, while passenger comfort is improved by a highly efficient heating system featuring a Lexus-first radiant heater. The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has launched its ultra-modern radio and television stations. The NYSC Radio broadcasts to Channel 88.3 FM in Abuja while the NYSC Television runs on TStv Channel 365. The Director General of the Scheme, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim announced this during the inauguration of the NYSC television and radio Stations at NYSC national directorate headquarters, Maitama, Abuja. Ibrahim added that the station would be primarily run by corps members under the supervision of relevant NYSC staff members and the management has already engaged over 200 corps members as pioneer staff to manage the new radio and TV stations.. According to the NYSC Director General, the philosophy behind the establishment of the Radio and Television stations were to educate and entertain Nigerians, give the Scheme stronger voice to sensitize Nigerians on the policies of government, in addition to the promotion of national unity and value re- orientation. The founder of the scheme, Former Head of State, Retired Major General Yakubu Gowon was also present during the inauguration of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Television and Radio Stations on Thursday in Abuja. Foreign airlines and travel agents will begin sale of tickets to customers in US dollars starting from April 19, 2022. This is as a result of the shortage of foreign exchange in the country. In a statement released by APG Interline E-Ticketing (IEG) in a travel advisory issued to its trade partners. It stated, “Dear travel partners, warm greetings from APG. This is to bring to your notice that with effect from April 19, 2022, GP would only accept issuing of tickets in US dollars and not naira,” the advisory reads. “This is mainly due to repatriation issues and the forex situation in the country. This would most likely be a temporary measure till the forex situation improves. “Our sincere apologies for any inconveniences this may cause to you and your business. Thank you for understanding.” The airlines to effect the new policy are those on APG Interline Electronic Ticketing (IET) GP code 275. Airlines on the APG IET platform include South African Airways, Fly Dubai, Kenya Airways, Middle East Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Rwandair, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines, FrenchBee, EgyptAir, ASKY, Air Seychelles, Air Algerie and Air Namibia. Air Panama, Air Burkina, Avianca, Bangkok Airways, Cabo Verde Airlines, Fiji Airways, Hong Kong Airlines, Malaysian Air, alongside other carriers, also use the platform. Carriers on the APG IET platform that fly directly into Nigeria are South Africa Airways, Turkish Airlines, Asky Airlines, Egypt Air, Royal Air Maroc, Middle East Airlines, Rwanda Air and Kenya Airways. Nigeria is running out of Foreign Exchange Due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2022 and Russian-Ukraine war earlier this year, Nigeria is one of the countries heavily affected by the fall in oil prices. The oil sector provides for 95% of Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings and 80% of its budgetary revenues. The country relies on oil sales to earn foreign exchange. Nigeria also known with its title as the Giant of Africa and the Largest Oil producer in Africa is running out of Foreign exchange and Central Bank of Nigeria unable to meet dollar demands in the country. According to APG, the difficulty in repatriating airlines’ funds stuck in Nigeria and other countries, coupled with foreign exchange fluctuation, is responsible for the new policy. Repatriation and Forex Shortage Situation in Nigeria According to Investopedia, the term repatriation refers to the conversion or exchange of any foreign currency into one’s local currency. It also applies to the financial industry. For instance, repatriation commonly refers to the conversion of offshore capital back to the home currency of a corporation. Foreign airlines have significant local currency that they are unable to convert and repatriate. It should be noted that foreign airlines are required to pay taxes for all foreign transactions in the currency that the payment was made. For example, if a Nigerian travelling to America should pay for a round trip ticket via Delta Air lines in naira then the Airline is required to pay taxes in Nigeria currency. Airline tickets to be repatriated are quoted in dollars and a function of forex availability. Forex is not available for the airlines to repatriate, which is why foreign airlines plans to issue tickets in dollars. When the sales of airline tickets takes effect from April 19, travellers will need to source for foreign exchange from Nigerian banks which might be a bit difficult or buy from the black market at a high rate the black market exchange rate of the dollar would finally cross N600. This will result in the sale of foreign airline tickets at double the price it was previously sold. Just last month there was an increase in local airfare tickets from 25,000 naira to 50,000 naira due to the scarcity of Jet A1 fuel otherwise known as Aviation fuel. In the past few months, many Nigerians have travelled out of the country to the UK, US, Canada, and the rest of Europe for greener pasture. If foreign airline continue with the sales of tickets to Nigerians in dollars, we expect to see the black market rate of the dollar to naira to hit 600 naira per dollar. Alternatively, some Nigerians might consider buying their tickets from travel agencies based overseas. Wifi can be cheap compared to another but is it providing you the right value for your money? This was the question I asked myself when I wanted to get a network provider. At some point, I used to get frustrated when I reviewed my monthly internet spendings. I will give you my honest experience searching for the most affordable internet. The least on Spectranet costs about 18 000 for 10 Mbps while Swift costs N25 000 per month. Smile costs around N10 000 for 8Mbps while FiberOne provides 10 Mbps for N10 000. I stay in Lagos so I decided to buy FiberOne’s 16Mbps for N11, 450. The connectivity has been good so far. There have been no interruptions since I started using it in October last year which was actually surprising. For me it was the price and the reliability of the network. The 20 Mbps I am using has been quick enough with streaming and downloads. I cannot count how many movies I have downloaded or streamed in a month since I started using FiberOne and honestly it just shows how good they are. I know they are also in Abuja, Ilorin and Port harcourt. Hopefully they expand to other places in Nigeria. I believe Fiberone’s internet gives you value for your money because I can plan my data without having to worry about it going over the budget. |
Bet9ja (co-founded by Ayo Ojuroye and Kunle Soname who are its CEO and chairman respectively), an online bookmaker company that offers betting on major sporting events operating in Nigeria, was shut down on April 6th following a ransomware attack by a criminal hacking group named the Russian BlackCat Group. In what seemed like a terrible day for the management of Bet9ja, the cyber criminal gang held the oraganization data hostage in a ransomware attack. Ransomware is a type of malicious software that encrypts files on victims’ computers, rendering them inaccessible until a ransom is paid. Bet9ja statement as posted on all its social media platforms assured users that all funds are safe and the issue will be resolved as soon as possible. “The entire Bet9ja system has been under attack by the Russian Blackcat group who are famous for several attacks to huge companies in the world. It is a huge hacker attack by this Russian group but our people are working from yesterday without stopping for a minute to restore all the services but it is not easy. “They are asking for ransom already but we will never accept their conditions. it is important to let you know this so that we are all on the same page. They have hit us hard but of course they cannot kill us. We will stand our ground and come back even much more stronger. “Please do not be discouraged, we will surely restore things as soon as possible and provide update on the progress.” Bet9ja statement on criminal cyber attack The Bet9ja betting platform, just like so many market-leading global organisations, has recently become a victim of a sophisticated criminal cyber-attack, which is restricting our customers from having access to the platform. We are working tirelessly with our IT Team, independent forensics and cybercrime experts to resolve this. We take this matter extremely seriously. Our priority is protecting our customers and you have our assurances that your accounts will not be compromised and all your funds are safe. We apologize for this situation and once back online, we will reward our loyal customers with a truly sensational bonanza of promotions. More information to follow. Any information not shared by Bet9ja should not be regarded as credible. We appreciate your patience and understanding at this difficult time. We will be back stronger, continuing to provide you with the best-in-class betting experience, as soon as is technically possible. Signed, Bet9ja Management Team. What you should know about the Russian BlackCat Group? In an article published on Tripwire and written by Graham Cluley ( a computer security expert and writer), BlackCat (also known as ALPHV) is a relatively new ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) operation, which has been aggressively recruiting affiliates from other ransomware groups and targeting companies globally. This hacking group extorts money from targeted organisations by stealing sensitive data and encrypting systems. At first request, the gang threatens to release users information on the organizations database publicly and if demands are not met, takes a step further by threatening to launch a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. The group uses Rust to reduce the chances of the ransomware executable containing bugs that security researchers may be able to exploit, as well as making it fast to find and encrypt files on targeted networks, and able to run on Windows and Linux systems. According to a report by Bloomberg, In February 2022, the russian blackcat group was allegedly responsible for ransomware attacks that took down a swath of Germany’s fuel-distribution system and hindered payments at some filling stations. The group has become popular with its sucessful cyber attacks since late 2021 by offering high payouts to its affiliates. Will their demands be met? It’s not known how much money the Black Cat group has demanded from the management of Bet9ja as ransom but the gaming site insists it will not accept the conditions of the Russian BlackCat group. The official Bet9ja website is still offline as of the time of publishing this article. Should Bet9ja pay the ransom or fix the security threat to avoid future attacks? Please feel free to leave a comment below. Source: https://yinksmedia.com/bet9ja-criminal-cyber-attack-what-you-need-to-know/

Inspired by the success of last season, TECNO Mobile and Manchester City FC have once again partnered with Footballco, in their pursuit to find two football enthusiasts from the media fraternity. Footballco is the world’s largest football content creation and media strategists’ entity. As a part of this campaign, journalists from India will be offered an opportunity to work as trainee correspondents and write for Footballco’s GOAL website, covering the reigning Premier League Champions. The content created by the trainees will be published across GOAL’s global and Indian editions, as well as social channels with a reach of over 57 million. TECNO Mobile is Manchester City’s Official Global Tablet and Handset Partner. TECNO has been partnering with Manchester City to run CSR projects in Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia for successive years to provide local communities with technological education programs and creative football interactions. The collaboration with Footballco is an extension of last season’s association, which resulted in two trainee reporters creating more than 368 pieces of content, which reached more than 34 million fans and generated 5.6 million video views. The trainees created content with Manchester City’s first-team players Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus and Aymeric Laporte, as well as Manchester City legends. This year, content created by the trainees will be published across GOAL’s global and Indian editions and social channels, which reach an audience of 57 million each month in India and provide valuable experience to young trainee journalists looking to break into the highly competitive field of football journalism. Stephen HA, Managing Director of TECNO Mobile said: “We are thrilled to see the success of last season’s campaign and initiate the campaign for the second consecutive year together with Manchester City and GOAL. It not only inspires but also cements our total commitment to always motivate and provide genuine support to young people in global emerging markets to take challenges, to find creative ways to achieve their potential and to never stop pursuing excellence.” To enter the contest, fans are tasked with creating a 60-second video about Man City’s forthcoming match against Liverpool on 9th April. Fans will be able to submit their applications from Monday, March 14th until 27th March when the application process closes. TECNO, Africa’s leading smartphone brand and rising global superstar of the new generation, has confirmed the full rollout of its virtual Random Access Memory (RAM) expansion technology earlier announced in December 2021, available for over the air (OTA) update on all Spark 8C smartphones. This allows Spark 8C users to increase the RAM capacity of their smartphones for optimal efficiency and processing power. Memory Fusion Technology was designed to make use of unused read-only memory (ROM) and channel them for RAM operations. With Memory Fusion, for example, a typical 3GB + 64GB Spark 8C smartphone can be optimized to an enlarged onboard RAM of up to 6GB + 64GB. By allocating more storage to RAM, the Memory Fusion Technology enhances a device’s multi-tasking capacity, allows for seamless switching between applications that are running concurrently in the background, and stabilizes the phone’s systems for more sustainable performance and longer battery life. “One of our goals at TECNO is to continue to improve the experience of consumers using our smartphones, and the RAM is one important feature that enables this sense it is mostly responsible for a seamless transition between apps. The technology behind the Memory Fusion has before now, only been available to high and mid-range smartphones, but now TECNO Spark 8C users can experience this feature and enjoy to the fullest the smooth and immersive experience their device can offer,” said Vincent Uzoegbu, PR Communications and Media Manager, TECNO Nigeria. Simply put, the Memory Fusion feature allows you to expand the RAM (Random Access Memory) of your device, which is responsible for your smartphone’s ability to multitask, i.e., smoothly run multiple apps simultaneously, and quickly retrieve frequently accessed files and apps. With memory fusion, the RAM on your Spark 8C can be expanded by as much as 100% and what’s more interesting is that you could do this right within the comfort of your home! Compared to a phone without Memory Fusion, a Spark 8C smartphone updated with the technology allows for an increased number of active applications running in the background, a more time-efficient warm reboot process, and a shorter load time for frequently and recently used applications. Specifically, on the 3GB + 64GB variant of the Spark 8C, which allows for up to a 3GB increase of RAM, devices saw a 45% increase in start-up speed of actively running applications and improvement in the time it takes to load frequently used applications. One can conveniently locate and toggle the Memory Fusion setting on TECNO’s user-friendly interface before selecting a preferred expansion capacity. Expansion of RAM storage capacity varies across different models. TECNO’s Memory Fusion Technology allows expansion of up to 3GB on the Spark 8C. To enable memory fusion on the Spark 8C, there are two OTA (Over the Air) update versions – v.032 & v.034, one would need to download and install. The device would typically notify the user on available updates; however, they can also be manually checked for in “system update” located in the smartphone’s settings. The memory fusion function comes with the v.034 update, hence you would need to first download and install v.032, after which update v.034 will be available for download/install. “Contracting Lassa fever was a very bad experience”, says 41 years old Marian Oyinbor, a resident of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area (LGA), Edo state, who was treated for Lassa Fever – a haemorrhagic disease which has killed 98 people in Nigeria in 2022. For Marian and her household, it is an experience she would not like to re-live because she and 4 of her children were infected with the virus and were hospitalized at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), in Esan LGA. “After the experience, I have been taking extra care of keeping my family safe by preserving our foods very well, washing my hands always and improving on personal and environmental cleanliness. I have been preventing rats from my house”, she said. Lassa fever is a transmittable disease. An infected person can infect others who come in contact with the infected person’s body fluid. For 41 years old Akhiria Ernest, residing in Irrua, Esan Central LGA, in Edo state, his infection was not a severe case, as it was detected early. “I was quite ill, but was placed on treatment early. Lassa fever is a deadly disease, but is treatable when presented early. I have since been maintaining good infection prevention control measures, ensuring rats are not living in my house and proper preservation of food stuff, he said. Sensitization to combating disease Lassa fever, endemic in Nigeria, has infected 540 people in 21 states and the FCT since the beginning of the year. Cases of Lassa fever often increase during the dry season, between November and May. Each year, Nigeria records dozens of confirmed cases and deaths including those of health workers. As part of the response to contain the outbreak, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), closely working with the World Health Organization and partners has activated a national Lassa fever multi-partner, multi-sectoral Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) to coordinate response activities at all levels. In combating this year’s outbreak, WHO is supporting the Government to coordinate technical assistance and operational support of partners including deployment of OneHealth Rapid Response Teams (NRRTs) to most affected LGAs. WHO has also mobilized experts to intervene in investigations, contact tracing, risk communication, and plans are underway to strengthen efforts to further assist Nigeria in controlling the outbreak. “The major responsible for the transmission of Lassa fever among health care workers is the poor compliance to with IPC measures”, says Dr Ekaete Tobin, – who works at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Esan central LGA and have been treating patients with Lassa fever for 11 years. Dr Tobin said WHO has been invaluable in protecting the Lassa fever ward staff by providing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). “The disinfectants and waste management commodities have greatly enabled environmental cleaning and waste segregation, ” he added. Additional to PPEs, WHO donated coveralls, facemasks, face shields, hand sanitizers, and bin liners to ISTH (which serves as Lassa virus testing laboratory and case management centre), as part of its support in combating the disease donated.
