PoliticsOur Independence Day Message To All Citizens Of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria. by YINKUS101(op): 11:41am On Oct 01, 2013
Our Independence Day Message To All Citizens Of The Federal Republic of Nigeria.

On this the 53rd anniversary of our independence I wish to pay tribute to those persons who have helped our nation to navigate the course of our post-colonial history. The severing of the umbilical cord from the Britain placed a tremendous responsibility upon the citizens of this country to chart their own destiny, and for the fact that we have survived politically, economically, socially and otherwise, we must be thankful to those who kept hope and inspiration alive by their example and those who toiled for the nation’s benefit. We would be nowhere or in a far worse place were it not for these patriots.

But acknowledging the contributions and achievements of individuals and country is a different discourse from the discussion of whether we are better off today having Independent status than if we had not been granted independence from Britain at all.

This discourse is based on the questions: What difference has Independence made to the lives of citizens? How better off are the citizens of Nigeria compared to citizens of other nations of the world? How much more developed or advanced is our society compared to those which are not independent?

The truth is that the standard of life in Nigeria is no better – and in some cases worse – than the standard of life in other Countries that are independent as well as also those that are not independent. There are Territories – dependent and independent – that do not have such high levels of crime, poverty, cost of living, dependence on the state's social and welfare systems, infrastructural neglect and economic under-performance as we do.

And to compound this situation, many of those Territories have little or no natural resources while Nigeria has been blessed with oil, natural gas, arable farming land and human capital as well as a prime geographic location.

With more resources and greater freedom to make decisions, ought we not to have done better than others who have less? Why have we been under-performing in terms of development – human and otherwise? How much of this is as a direct result of past electoral voting patterns where loyalty to tribal parties has taken precedence over demanding performance from our elected and appointed representatives and condemning poor representation rather than rewarding it?

The right decisions can lead to a brighter tomorrow and to a country that can rise to its full potential where every citizen can be happy and prosperous.

As we enter the 53rd year of Independent Nation Status, let us recommit ourselves to nation building and let us truly strive towards it for indeed, we can make it if we try.

Happy Independence to the People of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Respectfully Submitted,

Ojo Olayinka Solomon

EducationRe: FG Can't Meet With ASUU Demands - Okonjo-Iweala by YINKUS101: 7:26am On Aug 14, 2013
ASUU as a body are greedy set of people. How many lecturers in our Nigerian Universities come to the classroom often to teach their students? They always give out handouts and pursue their own private business. And this same set of people are still asking the Federal Government for more funding. You can see that they are not working for the pay they are collecting. They should remain at home. Every Nigerian student should get him or her self engage into something meaningful.

PoliticsHappy 52nd Independence Day Celebration by YINKUS101(op): 7:44am On Oct 01, 2012
Fellow Compatriots,

The time is here once again for us to remember the day our dear nation was born and also pay tribute to the Founding fathers and gallant men and women who toiled to give freedom and nationhood to the land of our birth- Nigeria. Our beloved nation is 52 years today and we give all the glory to God Almighty for how far he has brought us as a democratic country.

To generations of Nigeria who contributed and continue to contribute to giving Nigeria our unique identity among other nations, we say a big thank YOU.

The founding fathers blazed the trail; generations have kept the flame alight, and it’s our turn to contribute our quota to nation building. As young leaders of this great country we can do so by first of all having a sense of belongingness and responsibility towards the development of this nation, as our motto, “Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress", let us come out in our numbers in unity and solidarity to continue to spread the gospel of CHANGE.

Also let’s endeavour to showcase the rich and diverse culture of our beloved motherland through our lifestyles and speech. Let us also endeavour to abide by the laws and regulations of Nigeria as good and law abiding citizens we are, irrespective of where we find ourselves, inorder to protect and defend the good name and image of Nigeria our motherland.

Remember, in union strong, success is sure…and with God we shall prevail.
Finally, with a standing ovation, let us together sing out our National Anthem as we mean each word and recite them from our hearts. Ready? Let us go……

Arise, O compatriots,
Nigeria's call obey
To serve our Fatherland
With love and strength and faith.
The labour of our heroes past
Shall never be in vain,
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity

Congratulations to us all and I wish each and every Nigerian a Happy 52 Independence Day Celebration.
Be Patriotic!
