JAMB conducts recruitment exams for FRSC candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Saturday said it has conducted recruitment examination for about 15,000 candidates of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) across the country.

The Registrar of the board, Prof. Ishak Oloyede, disclosed this to newsmen during the conduct of the exercise in Abuja
The exercise, he said, was being conducted at the board’s Computer Based Test (CBT) centres across the country and have so far been reported successful, except for a centre in Taraba.

“There has been no problem; all centres are doing well but at a centre in Taraba, some of their computers malfunctioned but we have ordered an immediate relocation of the candidates to another centre,” he said.

Oloyede reiterated the board’s readiness to deliver a transparent system for all forms of examinations conducted through the CBT system of the board.

Recall that Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, FRSC Corps Marshal, in July said that the corps would recruit additional 4,650 officers and procure new operational vehicles to improve road safety management in the country.

According to him, the corps will employ the best in road safety management in the second part of the year.

A NAN correspondent who visited one of the centres at Bwari Abuja, reports that two alleged imposters were apprehended by security agents at the centre while trying to access the examination with same printout which had the same seat number.

One of them, Apeh Baba, who spoke to newsmen after being apprehended, said he mistakenly picked his friend’s photocopy of the examination printout from home and decided to attempt to use it.

He however begged to be forgiven for the illicit act, while awaiting to be handed over to the police for further action.

PRESIDENT BUHARI RECEIVES ATTESTATION AND CONFIRMATION OF RESULT FROM WAEC, THANKS EXAM BOARD FOR UPHOLDING INTEGRITY

President Muhammadu Buhari, Friday, in Abuja received the attestation and confirmation of his 1961 West African School Certificate (WASC) Examination result from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The documents were presented to the President at State House during a courtesy visit by a delegation of WAEC led by its Registrar, Dr Iyi Uwadiae, accompanied by Olutise Adenipekun, Head, National Office, WAEC, Abiodun Aduloju, Head Public Affairs, WAEC and Olufemi Oke, Zonal Coordinator, WAEC Abuja.

The President thanked the examination board, established in 1952, and which conducts the WASC examination for University and JAMB entry examination in West African countries, for upholding its integrity over the years, adding that he did not expect anything less from the institution.

The President said it would have been impossible for him to have attended the Defence Services Staff College, India (1973) and thereafter, United States Army War College, as a Nigerian military officer, if he didn’t sit for the WASC examinations in 1961.

The President recounted that during his secondary school days, it was very difficult to commit examination fraud, even though it was not impossible.

''My colleagues and I who spent close to nine years in boarding school both in primary and secondary, including Gen. Musa Yar’Adua, when we intended to join the military we had to take a military examination.

''We were examined in three subjects, English, Mathematics and General Knowledge because English is the language for general instruction throughout the country because of our colonial heritage.

''Mathematics in the military was necessary, coupled with Geography. We were trained how to be dropped off in the bush, given only a pair of compass and since we were not astronomers, you have to learn to find your way, calculate, using the Pythagoras Theorem and others to work out your position,'' he said.

In his remarks, the Registrar said it was possible for candidates to lose their examination certificates through fire and any other unfortunate incident.

''We don’t issue certificates twice but we can issue attestations or duplicate copy of the certificate.

''We also have what we refer to as confirmation; usually, universities were using this in those days when Information Technology was not in vogue.

''Whoever sat for WASC exams in whatever year, we have the records in our database, and Mr President, we have the records of the examinations you sat in 1961.

''We have the attestation of results which we issue to candidates who lost their certificates and confirmation of results,’’ Dr Uwadiae said.

Dear Moderators,

Pls be wary of news coming from the website: leaders.ng. It is a corrupted and parodic form of the reputable newspaper website- https://leadership.ng .

They should not be taken seriously. The site is mainly meant for propagation of propaganda for selfish political interests of the fabricators.

You would recall the time Sahara Reporters's Facebook and website were corrupted to disseminate fake political information to unsuspecting members of the public.

We need to wage war on fake news!

Please what is the dress code for the test and what items should we come with. I didn't receive any mail/sms but I want to attend.

This is a computer based test. Since you didn't get d invite, your details wouldn't have been profiled for the test. Above all, what is your seat number in the CBT hall? You may not need to bother yourself going there without an invite. Better days ahead by God's grace.

Politics / 2019: Sule Lamido's Lawyer Dumps PDP For APC by yns4real: 4:51pm On Oct 31, 2018
The attorney-general and justice commissioner in Jigawa State under former governor Sule Lamido says he is quitting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with thousands of his supporters in the state.

Yakubu Ruba made the announcement on Wednesday, amidst a crowd of his supporters in Dutse, the state capital.

He said since the 2015 general elections, he had been committed to the progress of PDP in the state thinking the party would provide him a platform to realise his political dream.

“I believe that posterity can affirm as to the extent of my commitment to the party and its members. However, due to personal reasons and the conduct of other party members to my support within the party, I realised that my political dream cannot be realised in PDP,” Mr Ruba told journalists.

“Where it comes to a stage where leaders of the party do not have confidence in you and you believe that you have confidence in yourself, it is a challenge on you to explore other avenue.

“I am old enough to make a decision for myself and my supporters that is why I formally resigned my membership of the PDP to APC with over ten thousand supporters. It’s a challenge but let us meet at the polling units,” Mr Ruba said.

He further explained that he was motivated to join the APC by the achievements of President Mohammadu Buhari and Governor Mohammad Badaru of Jigawa in the areas of financial prudence and infrastructure development in the zone.

Dahiru Yakubu from Kafin-Hausa Local Government Area where Mr Ruba hails from told PREMIUM TIMES that they were following him to the APC because the former commissioner was cheated in the PDP.

“You can imagine now in Jigawa, PDP has turned into family affairs where Sule Lamido has surrendered all the party structures to his son instead of learned people like Barrister Ruba,” Mr. Yakubu said.

Mr Ruba served under Mr Lamido as attorney-general for four years and is currently the lead defence counsel to ex-commissioners in the administration facing corruption charges.

He led the defence of Mr. Lamido in court when the former governor successfully defended himself over a four-count charge of inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace, defamation of character and criminal intimidation brought against him by the state government.

Commenting on decision of Mr Ruba to exit the party, PDP chairman in the state, Salisu Mahmuda, said it is a great loss to the party but also expressed hope that the decision was not final.

“I believe that he took the decision of leaving PDP in anger. Later on, we will convince him to reconsider his decision to return to PDP.

“PDP in Jigawa can’t afford to lose a personality like Mr Ruba going by his antecedents in the party and it is worthy of note for him to understand that even in Islam, it is wrong for someone to take a decision when he is upset. I assure you we have raised a delegation to meet Mr. Ruba, he will come back to PDP,” said Mr Mahmuda.

Politics / Remains Of The Missing General Being Carried By Officers Of The Nigerian Army by yns4real: 2:55pm On Oct 31, 2018
Mr Alkali, who recently retired as a major general, was declared missing several weeks ago while travelling from Abuja to Bauchi.

His body parts were found in an abandoned well in Guchwet village of Shen district, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Although no medical test has been done to confirm if the body parts found were actually that of Mr Alkali, the army said its investigations confirmed it so.

The body parts found were being put in a body bag as at the time of this report.

A brigadier general, Umar Ibrahim, the Garrison Commander, 3 division, spoke to journalists at the scene. He said some of the suspects who participated in the killing of the general brought the army to the well.

Last week, the army announced it located a shallow grave where the late general was initially buried before the body was exhumed and taken someplace else.

A military parade will take place at the site of the well after all the body parts have been removed, Mr Ibrahim said.

Politics / Re: Ekiti CJ Calls For Redesigning Of Fayose's New Court Complex by yns4real: 9:24pm On Oct 30, 2018
LibertyRep:
Why not point this out to Fayose while in power. If this is said to spite the man who built the complex, then it is distasteful and reek of cowardice.
Bravery isn't learnt in school I suppose.

What if the Ekiti Judiciary was not consulted or carried along at the designing stage of the edifice?

Jerri7:

"As laudable as the new building is, it is still in a way, a hybrid of absurdity. In its present state, it can’t properly and comfortably function as court house as it was not properly designed for that purpose nor was it designed for administrative purposes. That of course is why we have not been able to put it into use since that building was commissioned earlier in the month of May this year."
