BusinessCBN Reintroduces Charges On Cash Deposits And Withdrawals by yomibelle(op): 3:40am On Feb 24, 2017
The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday announced the reintroduction of bank charges on certain categories of cash deposits and withdrawals. This came about three years after the apex bank stoppedthe charges. In a circular to all Deposit Money Banks posted on its website, the regulator said the decision to reintroduce the charges on cash deposits was part of the review of charges on deposits and withdrawals under the cashless policy. It said the decision was taken at the Bankers’ Committee meeting, which held in Abuja two weeks ago.The circular, signed by the Director, Banking and Payments System Department, CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, stated that the committee decided that the cashless policy should be extended to the remaining 30 states of the federation. It also directed that with effect from April 1, 2017, banks in the states where the cashless policy was already operating, Lagos, Ogun, Anambra, Abia, Kano, Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory, would begin to impose charges on deposits and withdrawals above N500,000.Banks will from that date begin to charge individuals 1.5 per cent and two per cent for deposits and withdrawals between N500,000 and N1m.According to the circular, individuals depositing or withdrawing between N1m and N5m will be charged two per cent and three per cent, respectively. For amounts above N5m, banks will charge such individuals three per cent and 7.5 per cent for deposits and withdrawals, respectively. With regard to corporate customers, the CBN stated that deposits and withdrawals under N3m would not attract any charge, but that such customers depositing or withdrawing between N3m and N10m would be charged two per cent and five per cent, respectively. Also for deposits and withdrawals between N10m and N40m, customers will be charged three per cent and 7.5 per cent, respectively. Deposits or withdrawals above N40m by corporate customers will attract a charge of five per cent and 10 per cent, respectively.According to the CBN, the new policy on charges will be implemented in selected states on May 1 and August 1, this year; while the total implementation will be concluded on October 1.The regulator noted that the committee agreed that income generated from the processing fees above the allowable cash limits would be shared between it and the banks in the ratio of 40:60.However, the CBN said that existing exemptions to the policy such as revenue generating agencies of the federal, state and local governments (for lodgements) will be sustained. Also exempt fromthe processing fees are embassies, diplomatic missions, multilateral and aid agencies. The CBN directed lenders to train their employees to enlighten customers on the new policy.

PoliticsSee How Nigeria Has Progressed In The Absence Of Buhari by yomibelle(op): 3:07pm On Feb 11, 2017
Has anyone notice that since Buhari travelled..

Nigerians held the first ever protest without army nor police killing anyone

The two soldiers that flogged the crippled man were immediately identified and dealt accordingly, unlike before where they will set up a committee

The acting chief judge's name has been forwarded for confirmation

Every tribe is now having access to the presidency with no racial profiling

No herdsmen rascality since then

The first of this administration of govt and private sectors meeting were held to find a solution

Govt has been responding to the masses directly

The acting President travelled to Bayelsa to meet and hear directly from the masses not through traditional, religious or political leaders

Sincerely Buhari has been the problem of this country since 2003 when he first contested and lost.

10. FRAMED BY AN ALCOHOLIC PEDOPHILEIn 2008, Jack Alderman was executedby lethal injection by the state of Georgia. He’d been on death row since1975 for the murder of his wife and child. There had been no forensic evidence tying him to the scene and only the shakiest of motives. The entire conviction rested on the testimony of John Brown, a drug-addicted, alcoholic pedophile who confessed to the murder but then changed his story to implicate Alderman.Brown was a known fantasist andaddict, with a history of sexually assaulting children and violently attacking women. After the murder, he told police he had killed Alderman’s family. He thenchanged his storyto say he and Jack had killed them together. The prosecutors cut hima plea bargain. In exchange for his made-up testimony, Brown received 12 years. The likely innocent Alderman got the death penalty.Right until the end, Alderman claimed he was innocent. He evenrefused a plea-bargain that would commute his sentence to life-imprisonment for admission of guilt. Brown, meanwhile, served his sentence and then went on to abuse dozens more children.

9. INNOCENT BUT YET TRACKED FOR SEXUAL ENCOUNTERSLife isn’t much fun for British citizen John O’Neil. After being arrested for sexual assault, he was deemed by a judge to be so dangerous that he couldn’t be allowed near women. Accordingly, he was forced to give police 24-hours advance notice of any sexual encounter while out on parole. Considering he was suspected of sexual assault, this doesn’t seem too crazy . . . until you hear that O’Neil’s conviction was quashed incourt. He was found innocent. Yet his requirement to notify police before having sexcontinues to remain in place. That’s right. An innocent man is legally obliged by the UK government to give advance notice every single time he wants to have a sexual experience. If you’ve ever beenin a relationshipor even just hooked up with someone, you’ll know it’s extremely hard to plan satisfying, spontaneous sex 24 hours in advance. But the Britishcourts seemingly have no desire to drop this Orwellian restriction.O’Neil is still considered “extremely dangerous to women,”the concept of innocent until proven guilty be damned.

8. MISTAKEN WHITE IDENTITYIn 1984, Kirk Bloodsworth was arrested for the assault and murder of a nine-year-old girl in the state of Maryland. Witnesses had given a clear description of the murderer as a six-foot-five, skinny, mustachioed guy with curly blondhair. It was an open and shut case . . . with just one problem. Bloodsworth was six feet, clean shaven, had red hair, and was tremendously fat. Nonetheless, the state of Maryland tried him and threw him on death row.Perhaps the dumbest aspect of all of this is that the police had recentlycaught a guy who matched the suspect descriptionto a tee. He’d recently been jailed for the rape and attempted murder of another minor, and was incarcerated in prison one cell away from Bloodsworth. But no one ever managed to put two and two together. Bloodsworth was only freed when a 1992 DNA test proved he wasn’t the murderer. He was the first death row inmate in US history to be exonerated.
