Consumers should throw away their Chinese phones and avoid buying new ones, Lithuania’s Defence Ministry has warned. A report by its National Cyber Security Centre tested 5G mobiles from Chinese manufacturers. Researchers identified that one Xiaomi phone had built-in censorship tools while another Huawei model could be vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Huawei said no user data is sent externally. "Our recommendation is to not buy new Chinese phones, and to get rid of those already purchased as fast as reasonably possible," said Defence Deputy Minister Margiris Abukevicius. Censorship Xiaomi’s flagship Mi 10T 5G phone was found to have software that could detect and censor terms including “Free Tibet”, "Long live Taiwan independence" or "democracy movement", the report said. It highlighted more than 449 terms that could be censored by the Xiaomi phone's system apps, including the default internet browser. In Europe, this capability had been switched off on these models, but the report argued it could be remotely activated at any time. Xiaomi has not responded to the BBC's request for comment. The research also found the Xiaomi device was transferring encrypted phone usage data to a server in Singapore. "This is important not only to Lithuania but to all countries which use Xiaomi equipment," the Centre said. The smartphone maker has soared in popularity with affordable models, seeing a 64% rise in revenue in its second quarter compared to a year earlier. Huawei P40 The report also highlighted a flaw in Huawei’s P40 5G phone, which put users at risk of cyber-security breaches. “The official Huawei application store AppGallery directs users to third-party e-stores where some of the applications have been assessed by anti-virus programs as malicious or infected with viruses,” a joint statement by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence and its National Cyber Security Centre said. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-58652249 |
First he said there is no human to human transmission, after some weeks, that changed. He said wearing of masks by the general public isn't necessary, after some weeks that changed. WHO said antibodies present in people who have been infected doesn't provide any protection, some days later they changed their stance. Does that not show a level of confusion and incompetence? |
Bahdsypha:Do you really know what you are saying? As at 1st March, there were already 34 deaths in Italy and single digit deaths in other parts of the world such as Iran etc |
Ifesinachi22:You need to update this information. There are now over 60000 cases and over 1600 deaths |
timay:I'm very sure you didn't watch that match, and most importantly the various angles from the VAR replay. If you did, you will not say there was no contact |
Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei has said international sales of the Chinese telecoms giant's handsets have sunk 40% in the past month as a US-led backlash against the firm intensifies. Speaking at the firm's headquarters, Mr Ren also said the company would slash production by $30bn (£23.9bn). Last month, the US put Huawei on a list of companies that American firms cannot trade with unless they have a licence. The move marked an escalation in efforts by Washington to block Huawei. The US argues that the Chinese company - the world's largest maker of telecoms equipment and the second biggest smartphone maker - poses a security risk. "In the coming two years, the company will cut production by $30bn," Mr Ren said at a panel discussion at the firm's headquarters in Shenzhen. Sales are now expected to remain flat at $100bn in 2019 and 2020. Earlier this year, Huawei had predicted sales of about $125bn for 2019. However, Mr Ren said the company would "regain [its] vitality" in 2021. He also said that while overseas smartphone sales had dropped sharply, in China growth remained "very fast". The Huawei founder had previously downplayed the impact of the US restrictions on the Chinese firm. However, the actions by the US have prompted tech companies around the world to retreat from Huawei. Google barred Huawei from some updates to the Android operating system, meaning new designs of Huawei smartphones are set to lose access to some Google apps. Japan's Softbank and KDDI have both said they will not sell Huawei's new handsets for now. UK-based chip designer ARM told staff it must suspend business with Huawei, according to internal documents obtained by the BBC https://www.bbc.com/news/business-48659005 |
femi4:Oh sorry, my bad. Just that she is also fond of using bumper to fender. |
That should be Debby on Max FM. She makes that mistake a lot, I always wonder why her co-presenter and others in the station have never corrected her. It should be bumper to bumper like the OP said. |
We are still talking of one headlight, there are those especially 'danfo' drivers who drive with no head lamp working especially in the early mornings. |

So please guys, anyone to explain this part. |
Very sad thing to befall a family. The irony of this is that, Nigerians will call for justice, for human rights activist but when these activitists point out the crimes of our uniformed men, we are the ones that still claim that they are misguided and witchhunting the Nigerian security forces. We cannot eat our cake and have it too. |

Thank you, this just summarize the mentality of the present Nigerian youths. I wonder how a sane person will read this or write this and concludes that the US is the one sponsoring bokoharam inorder to help Buhari. The desperation of the PDP is appalling that they can point blame to any person or people for their calamities even their forefathers without looking inwards and search for ways to change the status quo. If some of the youths commenting on this forum are going to be leaders of tomorrow, then I fear for the future of this country. |
pring:And how were Syria and Libya friends of Obama or the US? |
bobbydbobo: Here's wats happening nd wats gna happen.: The west, under wide nd secretive consultation are looking for an opportunity to burst Nigerias bubble, so they say, let's find a reason to get there, nd like they do wen it comes to other nations, they send a black ops team, for a clandestine operation, they kidnap their own pple, nd play under the pretext that it is boko haram, cos any reasonable man wld biliv that cos that's the most reasonable thing to biliv in the circumstance. Nd then they decide to work with the nigerian govt nd hereby deploy their troops, assert their stations, form a black site somewhere all for what? To monitor our govt, dictate through neo-colonialist means, nd also ensure a free flow of oil for the next American Generation., I said "American gen." because they are our First "friends"in times like that so theyld come up first nd welld welcome them wiv open hands... Ohhh, I love America... Asserting their power cos they are worthy of it..... I'm still waiting for that person who will come here to make a comment nd say I watch too many movies, nd illd laugh at such folly.....You obviously watch too many movies. America is leaning towards self dependency when it comes to oil consumption. They are now taking from their reserves and in some years to come will be the number one oil producers in the world. They do not need your oil to serve the next generation. You really should stop watching those movies and stop having this neo-colonialist mentality been spread around. Develop yourself(Nigeria) and everyother person will follow. |
Noblechyk: Stop talking rubish friend. American soldiers are ambushed & killed severally in both afganistan & iran. Maybe u don't understand d word, "ambush". D best u can do in an ambush situation is to resist & it takes only strong military formation & strategy 2 resist an ambush jus d way our gallant soldiers did. D only casualties recorded according 2 d report was as a result of I.E.D dat went off. Let's stop all these trash we always say about our country. No matter how bad it becomes, it remains our country. Happy sunday.U said it urself, they were ambushed and killed in Afghanistan not in the US. This happened in Naija for Christ's sake to Nigerian soldiers |

The US has confirmed it would resist efforts to put the internet under the control of the United Nations. At present several non-profit US bodies oversee the net's technical specifications and domain name system. They operate at arms-length from the US government but officially under the remit of its Department of Commerce. There has been speculation that other nations will push for a change later this year, but they cannot force the US to comply. The US has set out its position in documents filed with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) - the UN agency responsible for encouraging the development of communications technologies. The ITU is hosting a conference in December in Dubai to which representatives from 178 nations have been invited to review the International Telecommunications Regulations (ITR). The ITR is a 1988 treaty which set out rules for how traffic should flow between different telecom networks, and how to calculate charges for traffic exchanged between carriers in different countries. The rise of the internet and mobile devices has led to calls for it to be revised, but countries are expected to disagree over the changes needed. The US's ambassador to the conference, Terry Kramer, outlined his worries in a statement published by the country's Department of State. "The US is concerned that proposals by some other governments could lead to greater regulatory burdens being placed on the international telecom sector, or perhaps even extended to the internet sector," he wrote. At present US-based Icann (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) co-ordinates the codes and numbering systems, deciding which new internet address endings should be allowed as an alternative to .com. It then leaves it to ISPs (internet service providers) to assign individual addresses. President Vladimir Putin has signalled Russia's final submission could go further. In 2011 he said he was keen to discuss "establishing international control over the internet using the monitoring and supervisory capabilities of the International Telecommunication Union". The Russia Today news service has since reported that China and India had backed this stance. But the ITU has made it clear that any changes to the treaty must have unanimous support, and it would block members trying to put any matter to a vote. "Whatever one single country does not accept will not pass." He acknowledged that some countries were unhappy with the way Icann had looked after the internet address system. "Some people are saying the governments are not consulted enough," he said. But he played down the idea that there would be a serious effort to seize control of its functions and pass them to the ITU. "Has anybody suggested to take responsibility from Icann? No, it's never been done. I truly believe there is a complementarity involved between our work - we can work together." www.bbc.com/news/technology-19106420 |
