Tohsynetita1:
Among the business currently on my mind is
The starlink service subscription business.
But something like this can be done in a place where their is so many youth.
Like university environment.
What do you do?
You get starlink kit,
Less than one million, you rent a location (that place must be a place that has something that welcomes people, like football house, video game house, charging device, cinema)
The inside might be for some things like gaming, watching football, and cinema,
But the outside which can be a very large place depending on where you rent will be where people can just pay to subscribe to browse.
A month sub on starlink is 60k, which is unlimited. The more the speed, reliability of your place , the more students will invite their friends. Just make sure you have what can keep them entertained there.
If 100 people sub at 5k per month. That’s 500k .
This will be good in a perimeter of a very big place like church, school, market, hostels.
You can even partner with hostels owners and rent their hostels for such. As time goes on one can invest in a local network that will be for a community, town or city.
Good plan but why give out your plan in its entirety? There's no need for anyone to contact you anymore since you've given it all away.

This is on the girl. You are dating someone that can't be bothered to write something original (even if it's a lie) and also someone not smart or bothered enough to edit. It just shows she picked wrong.

I can guess the guy is rich. Woman won't accept such from a poor man.

Btw, GF day is for girls that are friends to celebrate themselves. Nothing concern boy for the matter.

RandDigital:
I'll do some research of all Shoprite locations in Nigeria and relevant stats of the areas. I believe they'll all come back as "affluent". Then we'll discuss further.
My point still stands. It's one thing to be located in an "affluent" area, it's another to get the loyalty of said affluent people. That's what the brand didn't get right.
BusinessRe: Shoprite Plans To Exit Ghana And Malawi by ZeemsPropeties: 7:40pm On Aug 06, 2025
RandDigital:
So there were no local communities with disposable income in the areas where Shoprite was located? I would like to believe the few Shoprite stores Nigeria had were strategically placed. If those stores failed, why would Shoprite take the risk of expansion to less strategic areas of Nigeria?
Did ShopRite site their stores in areas without disposable income? If not, location is half the job. Sounds like ShopRite's plan was to site the store in a location and just hope the residents around there would automatically choose them over their competitors. That's on them.
BusinessRe: Shoprite Plans To Exit Ghana And Malawi by ZeemsPropeties: 3:01pm On Aug 06, 2025
RandDigital:
And what are those factors - you wanna bargain at the till?

But on a serious note, what local factors are these I keep hearing about? Please list them. Because in SA we have many international brands and they get patronage, there's enough disposable income to go around.
Nigeria has a fair share of international brands as well.
Every brand should have an identity that makes the customer want from them. Ease of access is one, exclusivity of products is another.

Why should I "travel long distances" to get a product I can get closer to me?
I believe the above is something ShopRite's marketing department could not solve.
BusinessRe: Shoprite Plans To Exit Ghana And Malawi by ZeemsPropeties: 2:57pm On Aug 06, 2025
KingCold:
Bra, even the poorest of countries have their own companies, isn't that so? So the examples you're making don't fly.. A grocery shop like Shoprite doesn't even need a target market to succeed because basics are sold there.. eg. Bread, sugar, etc.. You don't need a target market for those, and yes, Nigeria has one of Africa's lowest GDP per capita, which directly affects the spending of the people.. You're just used to open markets and there's nothing wrong about that
The bolded is one factor. Another factor to consider is why should the prospective customer come from whatever distance to buy bread, sugar etc from ShopRite when they would have come across so many other sources to buy from?
You need to understand that societies act collectively for a reason and until they must change it, the status quo will continue. If a society chooses an open market system, the onus is on the entrant into the market to convince them otherwise. We don't have to make the job easy because it's a foreign brand.

KLEINBASS:
Nigeria have the market in terms of numbers but interms of big buying power is South Africa. Same with Netflix they make more out of the 60 million in South Africa than millions of Nigerians.
Again, a company's failure in a market is an indictment on that company. Are we to believe that the company moved into a market without comprehensive study on the buying power of the people in that market or the brand failed in its strategy and just assumed success in one market would translate into success in another?
I'd say the latter but even the former does not do the board any favors.
BusinessRe: Shoprite Plans To Exit Ghana And Malawi by ZeemsPropeties:
KingCold:
This is false news. Nigeria has one of Africa's lowest GDP per capita,.. meaning most people in your country have little or no spending power..
Ranking by GDP per Capita puts Nigeria on 21st place out of 53 African Countries. I don't know how that qualifies to "one of Africa's lowest". Before you judge based on that, we have to ask "who are the market target of this brand"? What part of the market does your brand target since the Nigerian economy has a lot of successful companies. Why has the little GDP per Capita not affected those? The company failed in its strategy to penetrate the market and that's an irrefutable fact.
BusinessRe: Shoprite Plans To Exit Ghana And Malawi by ZeemsPropeties: 1:29pm On Aug 06, 2025
RandDigital:
Changing tune? Originally you said "No place in Africa is like Nigeria in terms of rate of turnover and return on investment especially Lagos". 😂😂😂

Shoprite's biggest and most advanced competitors are in SA, not Mama Put in Nigeria. When Shoprite exited Nigeria the BBC reported Nigerians were broke and only used Shoprite to take selfies and ride it's escalators. How can anyone not need a one-stop supermarket?
Nigeria has one-stop supermarkets. It's called the general markets. And Nigerians patronize one-man/family owned business for various reasons. If ShopRite is unable to convince people to choose their brand, that's on them. It is the responsibility of any brand to ensure that people recognize and need them. That's the entire foundation of marketing.
Again, ShopRite is a foreign company, you don't just expect patronage, you ensure patronage. I maintain that the failure of the company is on the board for expecting that a formula that worked in one market would work in another without taking into consideration that there are factors unique to different markets.

PS: You are probably mixing the comments up. I didn't make that comment.
BusinessRe: Shoprite Plans To Exit Ghana And Malawi by ZeemsPropeties: 11:15am On Aug 06, 2025
RandDigital:
False news. Shoprite's core market is South Africa (84% of total revenue). In the last year alone, Shoprite opened over 190 stores in SA - bringing the total to almost 3000. Nigeria didn't even have a handful. So get off your high horse, it's based on delusion.
There's no high horse. Nigeria is one of the biggest markets in Africa. Shoprite's model will struggle though because of other competitors and generally because they have failed to make the market "need" them.
BusinessRe: Shoprite Plans To Exit Ghana And Malawi by ZeemsPropeties: 11:11am On Aug 06, 2025
It's curious to note that when foreign companies fail, especially in Africa, the report writers tend to paint it as a blemish on the host nation rather than as a result of that company's inability to compete in that market.
A business like ShopRite might fail because no matter the amount spent on marketing, it is still seen as a "luxury option" compared to local competitors. Yet, every amount spent on said publicity will only increase it's operating costs making it more likely to fail. And there are also so many other factors to consider.
The fact of the matter is that there is a limit to product scalability and at a point, the business will find it difficult to penetrate other markets.
RomanceRe: Acquisition Of Skills Vs Salary Jobs: Which Is More Profitable? by ZeemsPropeties: 2:26am On Aug 05, 2025
Skills go beyond what you listed. Data analysis, web development, graphic design, econometric models are skills that you can get a job with and also build a business around.

What's important is the acknowledgement that jobs will only last for a while. If you don't leave, the job will leave you. Whereas, the skills of a man shall make a way for him.

Read and digest your book. If you have a sound understanding of the subject matter, there's no need to aim for A's or a particular class.
You would just end up there.

Would it not be a failure on your path if you admit your ancestors faced actual threats of death from so many different sources yet they scaled through but here you are, considering suicide because of a few unpleasant events?
Life's a game that isn't promised to be simple. What it wants to test is your resolve and strength of your will. Commiting suicide is like quiting a degree program because you didn't pass one subject neglecting the fact that thousands of people have also faced that course and survived. Are you admitting they are better than you?
EducationRe: Why A Cybersecurity Certification Could Be Your Smartest Career Move by ZeemsPropeties: 9:46am On Aug 01, 2025

it does not taste as it sounds.

Disregard this message above. No company will employ you with just "basic knowledge and understanding of IT and certification"

The only entry level industry certification in cybersecurity are CompTia security+, CyberOps Associate etc. Just to work as a SOC analyst. (security operator center analyst)
With just a basic knowledge as mentioned by the OP, you may not even pass the CompTia security+ exam. The most funny part is even when you have the certification without hands-on experience, you can never pass SOC role interview.

I am sure op is not into cybersecurity, he is just promoting a programme.
I personally believe in the saying "The grass is greener where you water it". There is no special path that offers easy money.
Every path involves so many things. I fell for the "tech is the new oil" propaganda until it was time to apply for jobs. Very few companies, if any, would sign over important data and access to their software because you acquired a few digital solutions.
Remember, the Internet makes it such that location doesn't matter. Which means for tech jobs, your competition would be people that actually got certificate in that field from various prestigious institutions and you want to sure up with Udemy certificates?
However, I'm sure if the person is passionate enough, they will eventually make a headway but it won't be as easy as articles such as this portray.

People should read the fine prints before agreeing to anything, especially to financial matters.
I don't think there is a way out since your friend willingly agreed to it as the company were upfront with their terms.
Your friend saw 89% APR and still agreed to the loan. That's on him. He has to bear his cross.

Knowing that, you have to go extra hard at something productive. The only hardship a person should face is in their line of work.
Work hard and life will be easier for you.

It seems I didn't communicate my point very well.
For better context,
My work is entirely focused on improving access to qualitative homeownership for the "average" Nigerian without compromising quality of life.

That said...
What that reference was meant to achieve was as a pilot to drive/influence positive perception. Most (aspirational) people will only believe if they see it applied as "premium".

A few years ago, many people didn't rate living on the island until they saw the celebrities they hoped to be like live there.
A premium use-case is a fast way to drive mainstream acceptance. What psychologists call "herd mentality"

I believe influencing herd mentality is a sure way to drive fast popularity.

This does not eliminate the fact that it will still have to be intentionally reimagined for dignifying, living... for it to be reconsidered by Nigerians living in Nigeria... most Nigeirans in the diaspora have become familiar with these type of apartment buildings so if we can as little raise the standard to meet what obtains globally, I'm sure it will fit just right.

I hope this clarifies it better.
I understand your point.
My point is you can't "mass produce" housing with the premium tag. There has to be some sort of compromise. If it's truly premium, it would price out a sizeable section of the market. And if it's not, it won't be different from the status quo.
I understand your work and I hope you succeed with it. What I've pointed out so far is my understanding of the subject matter.
