US travelers to now submit Nigeria visa applications at embassy, third-party scrapped The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has terminated its contract with its third-party visa processing partner in the United States, forcing applicants to now submit their paperwork directly to Nigerian diplomatic missions. Prior to the sudden change, Online Integrated Solutions (OIS Services) managed the collection and processing of Nigerian visa applications across its various centers in the US. However, a statement released on Thursday by NIS Public Relations Officer Akinsola Akinlabi confirmed that the operator’s services have been discontinued with immediate effect. The immigration agency did not provide a reason for the abrupt termination. “Travelers seeking Nigerian visas are now required to submit their applications directly at the embassy of Nigeria in Washington, DC, or at the consulates of Nigeria in New York and Atlanta until further notice,” Akinlabi said. Akinlabi assured the public that both the embassy and the consulates have implemented necessary measures to guarantee a smooth transition, promising that the submission, processing, and approval of visas will continue without disruption. Applicants are urged to closely monitor the official communication channels of both the NIS and the Nigerian missions in the US for any future updates regarding application guidelines. Vanguard News

The ongoing reforms in the Nigerian Correctional Service are yielding measurable results. The significant drop in recidivism, increased access to education, and expanded vocational training programmes show a clear shift from punishment to rehabilitation. This report provides a strong foundation to deepen reforms, strengthen accountability, and ensure correctional centres truly become institutions of reformation, restoration, and successful reintegration into society. |

The agency noted that the official website remains the only authorised platform for all passport-related applications and payments, whether for Nigerians at home or in the diaspora. In a public statement obtained from the service’s X handle on Monday, it noted that recent allegations circulating online about its passport application and payment system were false, misleading, and capable of confusing the public. It reaffirmed that its digital passport process is secure and operates strictly through its official portal, emphasising that: “The NIS operates a secure, transparent, and government-approved passport application system, which is accessible exclusively through its official portal.” The agency noted that the official website remains the only authorised platform for all passport-related applications and payments, whether for Nigerians at home or in the diaspora. NIS firmly rejected the suggestion that a religious organisation or private entity is linked to its payment process. At no time has the Service partnered with or authorised any religious organisation, private entity, or individual to act as an intermediary or receiving account on its behalf,” the statement read. The service also addressed the specific allegations currently circulating, calling them completely untrue. “Recent allegations suggesting that the name of a religious organization appears in the Service’s payment process are entirely false and do not reflect the structure, integrity, or processes of the NIS,” it said. The agency added that it has begun investigating the origin of the misinformation and warned those responsible. “The Nigeria Immigration Service has taken note of this purported allegation and is currently investigating the matter. Appropriate action will be taken against any individuals or groups found culpable,” NIS added. It urged members of the public to rely only on official communication channels and avoid engaging with unofficial links or intermediaries when applying for passports.

AFRIDEX 2026: Tunji-Ojo urges security agencies to deepen collaboration to tackle insecurity The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has called on security and intelligence agencies in Nigeria to strengthen cooperation and operate as a unified front in addressing the country’s evolving security challenges. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to inter-agency synergy, innovation, and national development, particularly as preparations intensify for the African International Defence Exhibition (AFRIDEX) 2026. Tunji-Ojo made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja when he received a delegation of the AFRIDEX 2026 organisers, led by Major General Umar Alkali, on a courtesy visit. Describing the initiative as “a very special programme,” the minister stressed that sustainable progress in Nigeria’s defence and security architecture depends on collaboration rather than isolated institutional efforts. He urged relevant agencies to adopt greater openness and partnership to enhance national impact. In a statement issued by the Head of Press and Public Relations in the ministry, Mrs Mary Ali, Tunji-Ojo also commended AFRIDEX as a strategic platform for showcasing innovation, particularly among Nigerian youths active in digital technology and cybersecurity. He noted that expanding visibility for young innovators remains critical to strengthening national pride, boosting economic development, and improving global competitiveness. The minister further emphasised the central role of research in development, calling for stronger linkages between innovation outputs and market opportunities. According to him, structured platforms that connect innovators, manufacturers, and investors are essential to translating research into measurable economic value. Tunji-Ojo urged that AFRIDEX be sustained as an annual event, stating that while its inaugural edition may present operational challenges, it would also provide lessons for improvement in subsequent editions. He also reiterated the need for deeper collaboration across all security and intelligence formations, warning against institutional rivalry and stressing that national security demands collective action rather than territorial considerations. On visa facilitation, Dr. Tunji-Ojo acknowledged ongoing improvements but recommended the establishment of a dedicated support desk to ensure seamless entry processes for the anticipated influx of international participants. Earlier, Major General Alkali expressed appreciation to the Minister for granting the audience and acknowledged his continued support for capacity building and inter-agency cooperation. The delegation formally introduced AFRIDEX as a premier global defence and security exhibition scheduled to hold from October 26–29, 2026, at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. Organized with the support of the Federal Government of Nigeria and hosted by the Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), the event aims to bring together global leaders, policymakers, industry experts, and innovators. Our correspondent gathered that the exhibition will showcase cutting-edge solutions across land, air, maritime, space, and cyber domains, with an expected participation of over 30,000 international attendees and 500 exhibitors. Akali highlighted the critical role of the Ministry of Interior in ensuring the success of the event, particularly in areas of security and visa facilitation. He formally invited the Minister to participate, while requesting the Ministry’s support in promoting AFRIDEX through its platforms and encouraging participation from agencies under its supervision.

The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a suspected fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member over alleged forgery, impersonation and fraud involving parents seeking foreign scholarship opportunities for their children. Dr Olusola Odumosu, FCT Commandant of the Corps, announced this while addressing journalists in Abuja. Dr Odumosu identified the suspect as Joseph Nanmwa Philips, a 27-year-old man from Plateau State, who allegedly forged an NYSC call-up letter to secure placement at the International Model Science Academy in Kwali, a subsidiary of the National Mathematical Centre. By Omeiza Ajayi ABUJA: The Federal Capital Territory FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC has arrested a 27-year-old man, Joseph Nanmwa Philips, for allegedly posing as a member of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC with forged documents. Parading the suspect at the Command Headquarters on Thursday, Commandant of the Corps, Dr Olusola Odumosu, also addressed an online report alleging unlawful detention and extortion within the Command. The NSCDC FCT Commandant described the claims published by an online media platform as “entirely baseless, malicious and a deliberate attempt to misrepresent facts for sensational purposes.” According to the Command, Philips, a native of Plateau State, was arrested on February 6, 2026, after allegedly using a forged NYSC call-up letter to secure a primary assignment placement at the International Model Science Academy, Kwali. “The self-acclaimed NYSC member, Joseph Nanmwa Philips, was arrested by our Kwali Division following complaints bordering on forgery, hacking, and impersonation of the leadership of the National Mathematical Center,” the Command stated. When confronted by our Correspondent with the allegations levelled against him, Philips admitted forging his call-up letter, even as the NYSC had also written the command to disclaim him. He also said he signed his monthly clearance in Lugbe within the Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC, despite teaching in a school domiciled in Kwali Area Council. Odumosu said further investigations revealed that the suspect reportedly cloned university email addresses and defrauded seven parents of approximately N1.3 million under the guise of securing Cambridge University scholarships and extra lessons for their children. The Command clarified that the “N1.4 million fee” cited in the the online report was actually the sum of money Philips was expected to refund to his victims, rather than a bribe for his release. We are a credible institution with zero tolerance for corruption and no amount of money is charged for bail under any guise,” the statement added. The NSCDC further clarified that Philips remains in custody due to his inability to meet bail conditions and is held under a valid remand order from the Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 2. Exhibits recovered from the suspect include an NYSC uniform, a forged call-up letter, and a bag containing hard drugs. The NSCDC urged government agencies and the private sector to be vigilant, noting that “if the likes of Phillips can succeed in getting placement as a Youth Corps member with fake documents without being detected for almost one year, it is obvious that many of such criminals are still walking freely.” Addressing a separate allegation involving the detention of a 69-year-old man for 89 days, the Command dismissed the report as a “gross misrepresentation.”. The agency explained that the individual was involved in a case of Criminal Breach of Trust involving N217 million and was charged before the Federal High Court following a valid remand order. The Command attributed the “misinformation” to a suspect currently on administrative bail, Chimezie Otuojo, alleging he resorted to “cheap blackmail to divert attention” from his own criminal investigation. Attributing the “falsehoods” to a disgruntled suspect currently on administrative bail, the Command warned that it reserves the right to seek legal redress against platforms that publish unverified information. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2026/03/nscdc-nabs-27-yr-old-who-faked-call-up-letter-taught-for-a-year/
