AgricultureRaining Season Maize by Zerofarm(op): 9:20am On Mar 14, 2023
Good morning Nairalander’s

I’m in a confused state as I have like 4m I wanted to use for agriculture this year I wanted to plant the raining season maize but people are saying that raining maize is unprofitable and marketers don’t buy raining season maize unlike dry season maize that I wont make profit.
Please have anyone planted raining season maize here and sell it as fresh maize before and was able to sell everything and make profit ? I wanted to do the farm in Ibadan fully mechanized but I’m worried I might not be able to sell when it’s ready by June/July or so

Thanks to travel section which increased the desire in me to move out of Nigeria. I started the process just before covid and I eventually left months ago. The reason why I choose to put this out there is because I was always kind of excited to read threads about people's experience abroad. I created a new account different from my usual one because I can decide to give personal information since I want to create savings plan in order to save $20,000 by Dec 2023.

I started my job mid August with $2300 after tax and I eventually got another one which was about $4000 before tax and take home became $3050 per month. Between then and now, I have acquired 2 plots of land around Mowe/Ibafo, each was between 300 and 500 hundred thousand naira because I'm someone who really believe in real estate. I'm not planning of acquiring more next year though. I now have about 2M in my naira account which was half of my POF which I got from a plot of land that I sold which belong to my family and I feel obligated to return it. I also currently have about $4000 in my Canada savings account, I might attach this.

Before coming here my income was between 130 and 180k naira and I almost lost it because I was already been told that business is slow, thankfully, I got my PPR a month after.

Note: I work from home and I'm not in Ontario. I want to note few things too but that could give hints because some of friends are in this section too
What type of job do you do ? Because you said you work from home

I don’t know if you are on irrigation but if not you cannot plant plantain by February. Another time to put into consideration is an arable crop that you can plant with your plantain which will give you ROI within 3 months so that you will use the money from that to be maintaining your plantain plantation. Examples of arable crops are maize,Okro, pepper ,tomato
Thank you

Hello Nairalander,

I need your suggestion and advice because I just acquired 7 hectares of land for plantain farming in ekiti which will be planted by February next year, the place is secured and free from bandits or herdsmen but everybody is telling me to do relocation instead of farming even though I’ve invested up to 4 million naira into this project because I love Agric….

Please which one is the best advice for me right now as I know how I can make it big by planting up to 10,000 suckers of plantain on this land and get the return in a year, is there market for large production of plantain?

Mods please help me to push this to front page as this is my only option of surviving
