The Fundamental Rights Enforcement Suit filed by the counsel of kidnapper, Evans can proceed according to the ruling of a Federal High Court Sitting in Lagos, Wednesday.

The objections of Emmanuel Eze, the counsel for the third and fourth respondent was dismissed by Justice Abdulaziz Anka who agreed with Counsel to Evans, Olukoya Ogungbeje that service on the Ist and 2nd respondent had been properly effected.

Before enjoining the court to pursue speed and justice on issues of fundamental human rights, Justice Anka, in his ruling held that leave was not required for the matter to be heard during vacation as Order 4 Rule 5 of the Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules of 2009.

The first and second respondents in the suit are the Inspector General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force. The other respondents are the Lagos State Police Commissioner and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

In the suit which had the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force as respondents, Evans is asking the court to declare that his continued detention since June 10 without arraignment violates his fundamental rights as guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution.

He also seeks a declaration that his parade on June 11 before journalists at the Lagos Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja without any court order was unconstitutional and illegal.

Evan wants the court to award him N300m as exemplary damages for his alleged illegal detention and the alleged harm caused by his media trial.

The suspected kidnapper asked the court to order the respondents to immediately arraign him before a law court or release him from custody forthwith.

Liverpool have immediately rejected a second bid from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho.

Barca's latest offer for the forward was €85m (£76.8m) up front, with €15m (£13.6m) add-ons. Liverpool have reiterated their stance that Coutinho is not for sale and now consider the matter closed.

Barcelona had a £72m bid for the Brazil international rejected in July and, having sold Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record £200m last week, turned their attentions to pursuing the 25-year-old Coutinho, a key player for Liverpool since arriving from Inter Milan in January 2013.

Rev. Father Patrick Edet, of the Catholic Diocese of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, shocked the state when he announced his exit from the Catholic church on Wednesday.

“On 31 of July, I resigned from my services, my duties and obligations as a Catholic priest,” he said.
“I ceased to be a Catholic priest in my thinking, in my spirit, in my soul, (and) in my body.

“Yesterday, the 1st of August, was my first day outside the laws, the regulations, (and) the authority of the Catholic church.

“In my mind, every law that bound me bound me because I submitted myself to the Catholic Church as an institution.

“Having submitted my resignation letter to my authorities in the Catholic Church, in my spirit, soul and body, I am free from every law that guided me. I submit myself to one authority – God,” he said..............................................

“Peace has been taken away from me for years. I live in fear and in doubt. Sometimes I doubt myself – am I really right, am I in the right place,” he said.

The Nigerian Senate confirmed the appointment of eight of the 12 remaining Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, July 20, 2017.

The Senate Committee on INEC had presented its reports on the nominees at plenary on Wednesday.

The commissioners that were confirmed at plenary on Thursday are:

Asmau Sani Maikudi (Katsina),

Sam Olugbadebo Olumekun (Ondo),

Mahmuda Isah (Kebbi),

Riskuwa Shehu (Sokoto),

Kasim Gana Geidam (Yobe),

Jibrin Ibrahim Zarewa (Kano),

Abdulganiyu Olayinka Raji (Oyo)

Samuel Egwu (Kogi).

The nomination of Professor Mustapha Zubairu (Niger) was rejected due to being from the same senatorial district as the National Commissioner of INEC, Mohammed Haruna.

The nominations of Mahmuda Isah (Kebbi) and Ahmad Bello Mahmud (Zamfara) were also suspended for "further legislative considerations."

The Chairman of the committee, Suleiman Nazif, explained that they were still making consultations on the two.

The confirmation of Ambassador Rufus Oloruntoyin Akeju(Lagos) was suspended after an objection was raised by the Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Abiodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti) who presented a court ruling against him.

Senate President Bukola Saraki referred the case to the committee to investigate and report back to the Senate.

A Spanish state prosecutor claimed Ronaldo failed to pay €14.7 million on image rights earned between 2011 and 2014 and that he used a shell company in the Virgin Islands to "create a screen in order to hide his total income."

A judge will decide if there are grounds to charge him with a crime and, if there are, the possibility exists that Ronaldo could be sentenced to time in prison.

ESPN FC addresses the main questions pertaining to the case and also asked experts with knowledge of the situation and its context to explain further: Maeve Buckley is director and co-owner of Irish sports marketing agency Line Up Sports; Jorge Sanchez is director of the international tax department at Madrid-based Montero Aramburu.



Ronaldo's camp claim that he has fulfilled all his tax obligations, hence his agents Gestifute have issued numerous strongly worded denials. Meanwhile, sources close to the player claim the 32-year-old was so upset that he vowed never to play in Spain again.

The Portugal captain's advisors maintain that the majority of his image-rights income is earned abroad and therefore not liable for Spanish tax. They argue that his 2014 declaration informed the authorities of these revenues (reportedly €5.6m to cover 2009-20). he future of Chelsea target, Alex Sandro will  become clearer on Monday following a fresh round of talks regarding the Juventus left-back.

As reported by Telegraph Sport , Chelsea are aiming to clinch a hat-trick of transfer deals worth £125million for Sandro, central defender Antonio Rudiger and midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko this week.

Negotiations over Sandro are planned for Monday, when Chelsea hope to make a breakthrough in their bid to sign the Brazilian.

Juventus are fighting to keep Sandro with the offer of a new contract worth £76,000-a-week to stay in Italy, but Chelsea can better that by paying him over £100,000-a-week.

Paris Saint-Germain have also shown an interest in Sandro and can pay more than Juve, but the will of the player is likely to be key.

Close sources to Sandro have confirmed he is interested in the prospect of moving to the Premier League with Chelsea and believe the Blues hold a slight advantage over their rivals.

Monday's talks should provide a clearer picture of where Sandro is likely to play this season, with Chelsea needing to pay a club record £60m to secure his signature.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told the All Progressives Congress (APC)- to stop blaming it for its failure in the past two years. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo had, in a national broadcast recently, stated that greater percentage of the 2016 budget was dedicated to clearing up the ‘mess’ created by the immediate past government of Goodluck Jonathan. But the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP’s National Caretaker Committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, dismissed Osinbajo’s claim saying....

“That is what they will always say because they have nothing else to offer. They are talking as though PDP didn’t clear the mess of the military. This government will always look for what to say. What have they been able to achieve in two years? They are always quick to blame everything on PDP because they have not done anything. If they want to use four years to clear mess, good luck to them.

“This is their pattern of defence because they have nothing to offer. Ordinarily, they should be able to come up and say we have achieved A and B, but in the absence of that, the only thing they can engage in is a blame game by saying they have been clearing mess.” The PDP noted that the economy was far better when PDP left office than the state of things today. “The so-called mess they said they are clearing; the economy was far better than what it is now.

“What mess are they clearing? If they are clearing mess, does that mean that economy should slide into a hole? Globally, every new government will always have a point of disagreement with its predecessor, but when you come in newly, you are expected to pursue your own agenda and assess the impact on the system. But the impact we are seeing is negative with the inflation rate, exchange rate, recession despite being handed over the largest economy in Africa, among other indices

Striker Sergio Aguero is among the best players in the world and is staying at Manchester City next season, the Premier League club’s chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said, dismissing transfer speculation surrounding the Argentine international.

Aguero helped City finish third in the league, scoring 20 goals in 31 league appearances, but his starting role came under intense scrutiny following the arrival of in-form Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus in January.

The Brazilian’s impressive start at the club, including two goals and an assist in his first two league starts, helped him oust Aguero as the first-choice striker but the 20-year-old sustained a broken foot and the Argentine reclaimed his spot.

“Absolutely. There has never been any doubt about that. I’ve read a lot about the speculation on this and it’s ridiculous,” Emirati Al Mubarak told the club website in his end of season address when asked if Aguero was staying.

“Aguero is one of the best players in the world. And we are a team that aspires to win in every competition we compete in… having Sergio Aguero as part of the squad is an absolute must. And it has never been in doubt.”


The 28-year-old Aguero, who joined City from Spain’s Atletico Madrid in 2011, has a contract at the Manchester side until 2020. He has won two Premier League titles and two League Cups during his time at the Etihad, reports Reuters.
