I don't usually participate in these open ended topics, but cant ignore a fellow returnee with a valid question. Lots of advice here, some good, most lack objectivity or have ulterior motives.

1. Nobody but you can determine the RIGHT business for you.
2. Whatever it is, you have to attack it with the YOU factor - passion, dedication, knowledge etc. What do you have a great passion for?
3. Remember that lots of businesses would probably generate a decent return, the questions you must ask yourself include - how quickly do you NEED the returns? Make a distinction between a cashflow business and a long term investment. A cashflow business would generate daily, weekly or monthly cash, as opposed to a long term investment that has an incubation period and needs time to mature (real estate, stocks etc).
4. Give allowance for a feasibility period, before you make your final decision. Come to Nigeria, and do some work in your areas of interest.
5. Give allowance for 'living money' for the duration of your feasibility studies, be realistic and set that aside from your capital. Nigeria can be VERY expensive, especially larger cities!
6. Whatever you do, do not leave your capital in Naira. Pick a 'stable' currency and park it in a domiciliary account in 1 or 2 'stable' banks. Fight it as we want, the economy, the heavy subsidies, infrastructure needs, demands on reserves etc seem to point towards an eventual devaluation of the Naira.
7. Determine what city and state combination you want to live in. Most people here have given you pointers best suited for a metropolis such as Lagos, Abuja. Perhaps you would prefer to live in Uyo, or Nassarawa. In that case, formulate a plan best suited to Uyo or Nasarrawa!
8. Explore all the opportunities available, but let that be founded on the reality of your available capital. While I applaud your hard work, remember in any environment N10M (approximately $63,000 USD) is not sufficient seed capital for every kind of business. Rent, equipment, power generation, security, marketing, salaries, inventory, raw materials could all be part of your start up costs depending on the business.
9. Real estate? Tread carefully! Aside from the general downturn in RE, and the market correction that the industry is currently facing in cities such as Lagos and Abuja, there are other factors to consider - there is a long incubation period, it gobbles up your capital, there is a glut of mid to high cost housing and attendant price crashes, land speculation in cities such as Lagos is not for the faint hearted and is at best a crap shoot (ask LAWYER in the property section)
10. Finally, even if you ignore everything else here, DO NOT HAND YOUR CAPITAL OVER TO ANYONE for "investment"!! Not even your family!!!!

There is more, based on my experiences over the last 2 years, but those are reserved for a different forum ;o)
