EconElectronics:What exactly does this mean? Dude, it is not necessary to comment where you have nothing constructive to contribute! |
ayzone:Who did the work? Could you post their name and number. I am still searching for an AC expert to fix the clutch on my bad volvo compressor. I replaced it, but want to have the other as a back up. |
FlyboyZee:Calm down and read through the entire topic! "Paint you black" how? I simply emphasized a sentence from your post. I happen to agree with you, as you can see from my previous post. I bolded your statement because in my earlier post I failed to write "whichever comes first" as I assumed most people know this. It is clear from the follow up questions that we should make no such assumptions. My response was more clearly directed @anochuks08 who asked about 1 year and 5000 miles. |
GAZZUZZ:Exactly! If the other car is not driving dangerously, or holding a gun pointed at your car, why does it matter to you? 120 km/h (75m/h) is not alarmingly high speed. I think you would be best served focusing on your own driving and vehicle control. Save the impulse to drag race for a place and time where you can only be a danger to yourselves, not innocents. |
FlyboyZee:Time or mileage, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. Please Do NOT leave engine oil in your car for 1 year because you have not hit 3000 miles! That is key, especially in Nigeria where people drive short distances, over rough terrain and sit in traffic for long stretches. In Lagos, I average 6000 miles per year; in the US, I average 18,000 miles per year. In Lagos I use time (3 months), in the US I use mileage (5000 miles). In both cases, I average 3 - 4 oil (and filter) changes per year. Simple. No car wahala. House experts, if I may make a suggestion? Seems like we have a lot of people who do not really understand the basics of vehicle use and maintenance. Would be really cool to have a simple vehicle maintenance topic pinned to the Car Talk landing page. Nothing fancy, just explaining oil changes, manufacturer recommended maintenance schedules (and where to find and print them) etc. Reading through a lot of comments, it is clear that 1. Folks mix up maintenance / service with oil changes, and 2. Folks either do not read their manuals or do not have manuals! Perhaps that may explain why we have so many requests for new engines etc. |
Siena:Its interesting, I grew up on MB, and still have a thing for the G500, but I noticed years ago that my Wall Street friends seemed to have a thing for the A8. I finally understood the obsession when I rode in one. It exudes an effortless class and elegance that the S500 and 7 series BMW can only dream of! Ideally, your stable would include a family vehicle and a work horse. The Hilux should provide that, yes? |
Makes perfect, logical sense. Unfortunately we have imperfect, illogical policy makers. These are the same geniuses who enacted the Nigerian Local Content law, with absolutely no local ship manufacturers in play! Lets be clear, this is not a "lets slam GEJ" statement. Not even a PDP / APC thing. This is quite simply about Nigerians waking up to the fact that we have elected, and continue to elect, people who know next to nothing about the mechanics of government. |
AutosBay:I am by no means a car expert, just a gal who enjoys reading about cars and learning from this forum. However, I know enough to know that the above is terrible advice. I am not certain that the dashboard tells you when an oil change is due! It will indicate low oil pressure and tell you when a service is due. 2 totally different things! Besides, the OP did not say what type of vehicle he has, how do you know if he has a newer vehicle with modern electronics? @ OP - Most people would do an oil change either based on mileage or time. I use synthetic oil and change my oil (and filter) every 5000 miles or 3 months. Hope that helps? |
Unrealistic campaign promises, founded either on inexperience or desperation! The road and toll gate are part of a PPP concession deal to which Lagos State, LCC and ARM are parties. It is not subject to cancellation at the whim of an Executive. Not only would they be tied up in a court battle for many years, but any such attempt would create a hostile infrastructure development environment for potential investors. Don't misunderstand me - I am not a PDP or APC supporter. I do not believe we have the best candidates in the current pool. Also, I never supported the manner in which the toll gates were built. But I know false bravado when I hear it. |
feedthenation:Based on what property appraisal system, I wonder? |
Interesting to read the responses - I would bet that most of these rejections of the idea, based on the mans "headship" of the home, are not religious at all, but based on chauvinism, ego and uncertainty. We continue to perpetuate the idea that women are given to irrational bursts of anger and huge egos borne of material wealth. Is this not hpocritical? Is that not in fact a stereotypical description of men in general? Who, when he gets a raise or promotion, suddenly finds time and resources for the additional girlfriend or wife? Yep, men. On the other hand, what sane woman, when loved and respected by her husband (and his family), wakes up one day and asks her husband to "pack out"? Yet to find one. It sounds like men, aware of their bad behaviour and the effect on their marriages, have decided that they must retain control or risk being thrown out on their butts. S t upid old adages coined by badly behaved grandfathers with 5 wives and more girl friends, then become the shield and weapon! Wake up guys! Treat your wives, and therefore yourselves, with more love and respect! |
Looks like I may have found a couple of sites: http://usd.fxexchangerate.com/ngn/ http://themoneyconverter.com/NGN/USD.aspx |
rigarmortis:If that the best play you have to get laid, then I need not say more! |
rigarmortis:You have probably been hurt by a female, if so I sympathize. If not, watch that cynicism, it will keep you from finding love and respect. Truth is the making of this list is itself shallow and ignorant, not to mention hypocritical. Most of the traits on your list cut both ways - men and women both do stupid, self destructive things. I wish you luck in love! |
If there is no known source, perhaps this presents an opportunity to Nairaland to fill the information gap? |
Can anyone recommend a reliable daily source of forex rates? Calling Malam everyday aside. Thanks! |
I am not an expert, but it does seem to me that the previous diagnosis may be premature. Is there really enough information to give a clear diagnosis? @ OP - what kind of car do you drive? Make, Year, Model? How does the problem manifest? What do you think the trigger might be? I have a Volvo with the same compressor cut out problem, except my trigger is road bumps and hard braking. Mechanics in Lagos could not figure it out, I placed one call to a service technician at a Volvo dealership in the US, and she immediately isolated the problem - a bad compressor clutch! Turns out it is a pretty common Volvo issue. Perhaps if you give more info, the house experts can help you out. |
sooperrescue:So did you get to test the speed device in your vehicle? How does it work? I am still trying to articulate my feelings on this decision by the FRSC. On the one hand, when I see the way drivers speed on the highway, especially carrying employers little children (who are invariably not wearing seatbelts), I shudder. On the other hand, I do not encourage any form of governmental meddling with what ought to be basic human freedoms. Imposing speed limits on public roads is one thing; forcing me to place a device in MY vehicle, paid for with absolutely no govt subsidies or participation ( and where I am not a habitual offender) is a completely different thing altogether! I don't know, mehn. Anyway, dont want to derail your thread, just want to know how the device works, and of course vent a little. ![]() |
AutosBay:Good information, but I still dont know the difference between oversteer and understeer. |
tonychristopher:I do not know you Sir, so it would be unreasonable for me to call you silly. I do drive a manual, I am not a dude, so by your title ( Strictly for Men, Pls ) my contributions are not welcome. Thats what I find silly. Then again, it is your prerogative to be sexist. |
@ tonychristopher - "Strictly For Men Pls!!!" ? Your prerogative of course, but how very silly. |

bbs2013:You do not state the year or mileage of your vehicle, so impossible to give you a definitive answer. However, a short lesson - oil changes are not the same as "regular maintenance". Regular maintenance is done at manufacturer recommended intervals, usually miles driven (every 10K miles, 30K miles etc), and is a comprehensive check and replace of various components of the vehicle. Oil and filter change is a small part of this. Oil change is done in between manufacturer recommended maintenance intervals, to keep vehicle lubricated. To use a human analogy, regular maintenance is like your yearly physical check. Oil change is your flu shots or taking daily vitamins to stay healthy. Every auto manufacturer has a maintenance schedule for their vehicles. Find it in your owners manual or online. It is wise to follow the recommended maintenance, whether or not you think the parts need to be replaced. It will keep you from breakdowns, headaches, costly engine replacements! Here is a general one for the XC90: http://eurosportautomotive.com/know-your-volvos-recommended-maintenance-schedule/ Hope this helps? |
I LOVE Volvos! I have owned 2 - A 2004 S60 (SOLD) and now a 2008 S40. Both GREAT cars! All the folks who have written about bad fuel economy and noisy engines etc., are clearly not recent model Volvo users. One problem I have noticed in both: the A/C compressor sometimes goes wonky after about 100K miles - The compressor cuts out when you either hit a bump or brake hard. No more cold A/C!! Apparently a common fault in Volvos, remedied by reshimming the compressor clutch or buying a new compressor. Google it.Next I am getting an XC90 for my mother. |
