Femi Odugbemi @ 28th DOK.Fest Munich, Germany.

28th DOK.fest Munich - 8th to 13th May 2013.

The 28th DOK.fest has begun. After the opening celebration on Wednesday evening at the University for Television and Film, filmmakers and the public are in the mood for an exciting week of documentary films. The number of people at the opening was bigger than ever before. An audience of over 500 filled two auditoriums at HFF. Festival Director, Daniel Sponsel, is delighted that a year of work - including the viewing of over 1,000 films and the selection of the 131 films for the festival - has now come to fruition.
"Now the festival and the documentary films belong once more to the cinemas and the public. In the coming days our 131 films will be exhibited in around 230 screenings as well as at the 11 DOK.tour cinemas across the whole of Bavaria. It is hard work logistically but it pays off every year, because it is just wonderful how the public embraces the films and seeing a documentary film in the cinema becomes a real experience.
It is genuine and touching."

From yesterday Friday and Saturday we have many outstanding films and events in store. It is perfect for the rainy weather!

Without any hitches, Mr. Giovanni Dolci, Vice President, Theatre Development at IMAX Corporation will arrive Nigeria on Monday July 15, 2013 for an FDI meeting with my team and the Bank of Industry, on the plan to establish IMAX in Nigeria which will be the first IMAX in West Africa and the third in Afrca after Kenya and Egypt.

See the Big Picture!

IMAX in Nigeria is going to have the biggest and largest cinemas in Nigeria with the IMAX studios for the production of IMAX movies and distribution of IMAX products and services which will increase the global market share of the Nigerian film industry in the global box office and attract more foreign direct investments in our creative industries with thousands of jobs created at every location of IMAX in Nigeria with the fastest growing population of young people in the world in need of opportunities in the billion dollar film industry for which I also launched the nationwide Screen Naija One Village, One Cinema Project supported by the Bank of Industry for the sustainable development of the Nigerian film industry for the cultural and socioeconomic advancement of Nigeria as an emerging market and one of the largest economies in the world.

Ladi Ladebo has a more comprehensive explanation on For A Viable Cinema Industry in Nigeria on http://www.ladi-ladebofilms.net/index.php/for-the-record/for-a-viable-cinema-industry-in-nigeria,
[size=18pt]
It becomes possible to syndicate capital for major film projects with the existence of large and increasing number of cinema exhibition outlets. Joint international film projects become viable. China and the rest of Asia today attract foreign investments to their film industries because these countries have developed the local pools of the various skills which Hollywood, for instance, will consider in making a decision to mount a huge international production in these locations. South Africa is a more visible example. The big multimillion dollar film projects are not the preserve of just one area of the world. Hollywood is constantly anxious to use new exotic and interesting locations, but only if some local and cheaper inputs are guaranteed. These include trained manpower and other logistically proven opportunities. While we repeatedly engage in confusing debates, many international productions which require African locations are mounted in Kenya and South Africa.

More detailed features on the maximization of the Nigerian film industry have been included in the maiden edition of my Nollywood Mirror which you can read on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CSGYTQK and also on
Africa Update - Central Connecticut State University
http://web.ccsu.edu/afstudy/upd11-2.html

Anyone who is a serious stakeholder in the Nigerian film industry should have the above quoted publications on his or her MUST READ LIST.

So much has been written and published on Nollywood, our Nollywood, the phenomenal Nigerian film industry producing thousands of home videos telling stories of Nigerians from the past to the present and has caught the attention of the rest of the world to say WOW! African magic? Did you know that Ivorian rebels in the bush stopped fighting when a shipment of Nollywood DVDs arrived from Lagos? Did you know that Zambian mothers said that their children now talk with accents copied from Nollywood movies? Did you know that when the President of Sierra Leone asked Genevieve Nnaji to join him on the campaign trail he attracted record crowds at rallies, because of her? Yes, Nollywood is our African magic that has hooked the world. The maiden edition of NOLLYWOOD MIRROR® is a celebration of the best of Nollywood.
