In developing countries, technologists, scientists, engineers, technicians and craftmen have there different jobs to do in the manufacture of a machine or device. In such countries, the technologist have the same value in the labour market as the scientist and the engineer. A technologist is a polytechnic graduate, while an engineer is a university graduate.
However, in Nigeria there is this discrimination between the technologists and the engineers in the labour market. Why is this so? Is it because we have not reached to the level of manufacturing sophisticated machines and devices like, cars, lathe machines e.t.c hence the discrimination, or is it just the african mentality.

Polytechic qualifications (HND) cannot be equivalent to the university counterpart (Bachelor's Degrees). The difference is made clear even from the point of admission.
The Polytechnics would require just 4 credits in the O'level while the Universities require 5 O'level credits.
The UTME minimum score for admission is always different, universities' requirements are always higher than that of polytechnics.
So, come to think of it, the difference starts from the point of admission and generated into discrimination after graduation.

. Hw do we justify the fact that the first, second and third position in a NEPA job screening exam in 2004 were occupied by a particular polytechnic graduates in nigeria.
