Militants rape 28 female youth corps members

Some unidentified gunmen suspected to be militants on Thursday raped 28 female youth corps members in Abonnema, a town in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

A source said the militants invaded the residence of the corps members, who were posted to the town on primary assignment, and rounded up the ladies. He said the suspected militants went into every flat, raping the women at gunpoint after which they fled through the waterfront. He noted that Abonnema residents had been constantly terrorised by gangsters who relocated to the area after they were sacked from some of their locations in the creeks.

First of all, it's a pity that the NYSC is being used as an excuse to send our valuable human resources (graduates) into unsafe regions of the country without guaranteeing their safety in any way.  

Secondly, it appears the gunmen didn't steal any money in the operation (they already have lots of money from kidnapping) They went out purposely to rape. Is this what the Niger Delta 'struggle' is now about?

If the story is true,they are just mere hoodlums,part and parcel of the problems.This things can't change only by force,people need to re-orientate.

the federal government should be held responsible for this nonsense. why did nysc send innocent female graduates to the niger delta?

Rape is an inexcusable and unjustifiable crime.
Wat more does yaradua need to be convinced dat this millitants are not "principled" people.

True. The lady could be raped by a local rapist parading as a militant. same thing happened in Iraq some two years ago and the crime was perpetuated by American soldiers.

It seems Nigeria is getting more f-cked up by the minute.
