What about six foot plus. His verse in Jerry Gyang's "Na Ba Ka" was ground-breaking for Hausa Rap. And before that, there was P-Square's Rap in "Last night" (Suna na Mista P, me ne ka ce?) Ice Prince's "Abokii" went a great way to expose Nigerians to Hausa Hip hop, even though it was heavily watered down with a lot of English Lyrics. And coming down to Igbo hip hop pioneers, why would you mention Phyno ahead of Slow Dogg? It's just like referring to Macklemore as a Pioneer white rapper before mentioning Eminem. And in this context, contemporary relevance should be place wayyy behind historical relevance. It's a fine thing, hardcore indigenous hip-hop. Hopefully other languages will start receiving attention. I look forward to listening to rap in whatever language Muma Gee sang "Kade" in. 1 Like |
