This came up my mind recently and caused me to wonder.A mechanical engineer in a dignified tertiary institution and the road side mechanic;the mechanical engineer who has spent a fortune probably has little practical knowledge compared to a mechanic who offerd peanuts to learn d vocation;peanuts which can be compared to d mechanical engineer's allowance 4 a semester .However d mech enginer goes d mechanic to do his/her(seriously.... "her"IT.But yet d mech engineer is held in higher prestigue by d society instead of d mechanic. Pls drop ur reasons .

At least where Nigeria is concerned, a mechanical engineer is someone with a degree in mechanical engineering who sits in an air-conditioned office and has the right to add "Engineer" to his name.

A mechanic on the other hand is a primary or secondary school dropout who learned his trade by trial and error usually under another mechanic.
