Rariya reports that chemicals from the school's laboratory badly injured Safiya's hand, and when the school saw they couldn't manage the situation after two days, they sent her back to her parents who took her to the State hospital. The doctors who examined the hand after she was brought, told the family that to save Safiya's hand, her finger has to be amputated.

Again it brings to the fore, poor or zero first aid measures in our school labs. Something as basic as pitting the hand under running water could have saved her finger. A stitch in time....

That's not an excuse.
Secondary schools don't normally make use of concentrated acids or bases for experiments. And when they do, it is usually performed only by the chemistry teacher.
So how on earth did it get to this girl? Something else must have gone wrong.

And this could probably have been prevented if she simply put her hand under running water. They might have been trying to use a cloth or something like that. And then again, they managed the hand for TWO WHOLE DAYS.

This is simply a case of ignorance.

Do you think the burn on her finger would have been this bad if she was putting on the required P.P.E gloves or if she was taken to the hospital immediately?
