An automobile engine works like a pump, the more air you supply to the engine, the greater the power. Increasing an engine’s power is done with either the aid of a turbocharger or a supercharger.

A turbocharger uses exhaust gases to increase the engine’s power output. Exhaust gases flowing out of the engine are collected and used to run a turbine that will, in turn, run the air compressor which will provide more power output. Turbochargers “in theory” are thought to be more efficient because they are using the wasted exhaust gases, however, practically, they create a lot of back pressure in the exhaust system which causes less boost until the engine is running at a very high RPM.

A supercharger is connected directly to the engine with the aid of a belt and takes in atmospheric air to supply to the engine which ultimately increases the engine power. Superchargers are capable of boosting the engine at very low RPMs.

A regular car will do better with a supercharger as they are very easy to install, very easy to understand by an average mechanic and quite cheap to repair. Superchargers can still operate with regular gasoline which is widely available in Nigeria while most turbocharged vehicles require premium gasoline,

Overall, if you are looking to increase your car performance on a budget, then you should look to superchargers.
