Only 350,000 Will Be Offered Jamb Admission Out Of 1.5m

The chairman of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mr Sampson Akpabi, has said that out of 1.5 million candidates who sat for the examination this year, only 350,000 would be admitted.

He made this clarification on the occasion of the 2011 combined technical committee meeting for the Unified Tertiary Institution Matriculation Examinations (UTME) admission exercise holding in Owerri, Imo State, on Monday.

According to him, this was as result of limited accommodation and facilities in the universities.

He, however, noted that the number would increase by next year when the Federal Government would have established federal universities in the seven states that are presently without federal universities.

In his address on the occasion, Imo State governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha,  said the effort of the state was not reciprocated as the multitude of Imo candidates had lost the opportunity of being admitted into federal universities in the country.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Sir Jude Agbaso, said for the five years under consideration, a total of 451,196 Imo candidates took the examination while only 54,091 of them were offered admissions, representing 11.99 per cent.

@ buzugee, I think you are only trying to be sarcastic, but in countries like Norway, where income is evenly distributed, I read that a Bar Tender can earn as much as a Medical Doctor per month.

You are right, we all ,definitely, cannot be University-Educated (White Collared Workers), as some due to intellectual disabilities or lack of financial resources will turnout to be blue collared workers or Artisans.

Given the above reasons, it is left for the society to ensure equitable distribution of wealth among it's citizens so that all can say, 'There is dignity of Labout'. cool

If JAMB has got admission for only 350-400,000 candidates annually, then why sell form for 1million people Especially when we have above 350,000 students who scale through in their exams/PostJAMB. #smh

Sarcastic ? i aint. I am being real. with regards to income distribution, a blue collar worker with business acumen has 100 more times the opportunity to earn more than a white collar worker. see a blue collar worker does not have a CAP on how much they can make. it just depends on his skill-level, time, and business acumen. a blue collar worker with all 3 qualities mentioned will become a millionaire in a year. say for example i am a cabinet maker. the best in the field. and i can make say 500 cabinets in a year. these cabinets sell for like 300 pounds each equivalent. dude has made 150000 pounds in a year in nigerian equivalent. now here is where the business acumen comes in. he employs and trains 10 people. he has increased his production to 5000 cabinets in a year. this is 1.5 million pounds in a year. when he pays workers and pays for raw material he has made 1 million pounds in a year. how many white collar workers have the potential to make that ? their salary is capped.

There are no 'perfect answers and perfect questions' in life.

Who are the recognized in the society? Elites of course! Every body wants to learn how to speak English and compete with you on that job or Babe you are bragging with. Majority of the people without university or formal Education I have interacted with only complained on how they are being insulted without a 'paper qualification' even with their brown collar laboured acquired wealth. It also boils down to the economic hardship of Nigerai, you cant get a good paying job without having a degree because those labour institutions discriminate alot.

(A receptionist in a top company must be a graduate instead of a highly trained or qualified ssce holder), the cause of this issues are many.

[size=13pt]my opinion

- nigeria does not need more graduates, but more technical specialists and seasoned graduates (not the type we are producing now).
- govt should try to decrease the wages imbalance between technical specialists, and university graduates
- more emphasis should be placed on quality and not quantity of graduates that we have (in fact, i will advocate that the number of grad we produce should be reduced)
-instead of getting more graduates, focus more on providing jobs for the graduates you currently havee
- build more technical schools that can teach both technical and entrepreneurial  skills, and grant these grads access to capital to start up under the supervision of some other entrepreneurs!!!!  we dont need to import shoes, clothes, cd/vcd players, cups, earrings, perfumes, vases, books, juices . . . . . when we have pple who can be trained to do this

@da doctor

and what makes you think toe 350,000 that gain admission wont be half-baked graduates?most of them will be quater-baked while the rest will be raw flour-graduates.naija's educational system is bleeped up.we need more emphasis on skill acquisition.this craze for certificates should be erased.people now believe their future is tied to having to qualify to become an employee when enormous potentials abound in self-employment

Hmm,

Well I know Pipe welders that earn as much as 180k per month minus bonus for more joints. That is far more than what the average engineer of say almost equal or equal years of work earns in Nigeria. Some fitters also earn well too. The lucky ones of those trailer drivers get even more but they waste it daily on beer, women, too much food (1 plate with 10 meat), etc.

This however is not a reason why someone should not get a university degree. A tailor with a degree would do tailoring with class (only if that is true internationally). Nigeria hype on degree certificates is repulsive.
