My cousin is interested in Applied Maths postgrad study but his background is in Engineering. Is it true that he can't go straight for MSc Math but he first has to do PGDE? We hope this is not so.

Also any idea how much is the tuition per session for fulltime study? Lastly, fulltime is one year right? I've already read here that forms will sell till September ending.

We both checked the website but it seems it is undergoing maintenance; we couldn't find enough information.

Edit: someone said there's no fulltime for PGDE. Ha! That's serious oh. We really hope he can do MSc directly then. Please help.

Hello Bant. I feel your pain. But not to worry, there is a solution.

First let me address your concerns.

1. True as you rightly noted, Bsc Engineering cannot go direct to do Msc Applied Maths. You need to go thru pgd in math. see requirement below from unilag website:

Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Mathematics (Full-Time)

The following options are available:

(a) Pure Option
(b) Applied Option

Entry Requirements:

(i) Candidates must possess a Bachelor's honours degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics/Statistics, or Mathematics Education from this University or any other recognized institution.

(ii) A Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics from the University of Lagos with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.

2. For PGD in maths, there is no FT but PT unfortunately. its PGD Mathematics|3 Semesters programme.


Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics (Part-Time)

At least a Bachelors degree in Physics, Physics Education or Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics Education or Computer Science or this University or any other recognized institution

3. I always advise that you do all you can to get your dream fulfill, no matter the obstacle. Bant let him go thru the programme he will enjoy the
ride.

4. The other alternative is to get your Masters abroad or check other schools in Nigeria maybe they allow Math combo with Engineering.

How do you mean PeteZenith? youre suppose to upload your certificate not statement of result, but if in case your school hasnt released your certificate, there is no problem, upload your statement of result. you later edit it when released (although i hear you cant edit this time ard).

Note your application will not determine your admission, what it does is to guide you from making mistakes of rejection, when you are given admission and you come for registration and you hear sorry, you didnt qualify to read this course.

I hope you have your Bsc Certificate by then, otherwise you will lose the admission. However, if youre a product of Unilag, you dont need all this drama.
