Registered students are qualified to write examination 8 weeks after they have intimated themselves of possessed the course materials either printed or downloaded from the internet.

The course for registration posted on the website depends on available course materials at the time of registration.

Why should a person with General Nursing and Midwifery Certificate do Access programme?


You are required to do Access if you do not possess the required Credit level passes in relevant science subjects-
Registered Nurses/Nurses/Midwives are now given some concession to register for degree programme while trying to make up for their deficiencies before graduation.

Why are the Courses given to us for registration at the Centre different from the ones in the Handbook?


the hand book may be obsolete since the University regularly review its courses and programmes
the Study Centres issue out courses to be registered depending on the availability of course materials, sometimes courses in the hand book may not be available

Why were 2006 qualified students of Law placed on 100 level while those of 2007/2008 were placed on 200 level?


Admission policy in 2006 is different from the policy in 2007/2008. The Admission criteria differ.

Why is it that those that took the Access programme and certificate that ought not to take more than year still don’t have their results to proceed to the main programme of choice?


A coordinating unit has been set up by the University to handle Access programme, and their outstanding results are been processed.
Some students have received their results and have since migrated from access to degree programmes.

How many years for master programme.?


It is flexible. Minimum of three semesters and maximum of six semesters.

Can you do without lectures?


Yes, attending facilitation sessions is not compulsory but you must do your Tutor Mark Assignments (TMAs) and submit as at when due.
Facilitation is done in Open and Distance Learning mode not lectures.

Why is there no admission for pre-registration Nursing degree programme students?

- discussion with Nursing Council which is the regulatory body is still going on but meanwhile the programme is suspended

Can 100 level students take more courses from 200 level course?


Yes if the courses have no prerequisites and are available for registration.

With a 1st degree and a Masters degree, why should access literature be a requisite for admission into Law?


If it is a pre-requisite for your programme, you have to do it if you do not have credit on it at O’level. Access literature is not accepted in law. It is either you have it at the ordinary level or nothing. O’Level Literature at credit level is a requirement for admission in Law programme in all Nigerian University.

Why are students given wrong admissions from Lagos?


Admission is granted on the strength of the information supplied by the student while filling the form.

No. you pay for course materials, exams and minimal registration fee

Degree:
For 100 level admission, a student is required to pass a minimum of 120 credit units from relevant courses;
For 200 level admission, student are required to pass a minimum of 90 credit Units from relevant courses
PGDE:
For PGDE, a student is required to pass minimum of 30 credit units from relevant courses;
Masters:
A student is required to pass minimum of 45 credit units from relevant courses.

What is the time of completion of the academic programme?


Depending on the programme and the capability of the student. The University programmes are flexible modes.

Does admission run for a whole year i.e. how many admissions are done in a year?


Application for admission is all year round but admission exercise is done once in a year for now

Why does the University delay in attending to change of program requests?


Delay can occur:
If request for change of programme did not contain the required information e.g. application form number, matriculation number and credentials etc.

Students are offered admission based on the credentials submitted on application for admission. Students should endeavour to always supply correct and current information.

- we do admit to 200 level straight for some categories of students e.g. B.Sc. Nursing and in the B.Ed degree programme

Why is it that the courses found on our page on the net is either 2 or 3 courses, short from what we have at the Study Centre? We are expected to take at least 18 credit units and we have found only 14 credit units there?


It depends on the availability of course materials. You can only find courses whose course materials are available either in print, CD or on the online for registration.

How do we start our course assignments? Do we type or hand written for submission?


Do what is most convenient for you either hand written or typed. It is always better to type so you can have a clean copy which can easily be read .

Why the change in course schedule after registration? Some initially registered for are not in the new schedule. Should we return the course materials not in the new schedule?


Sometimes the programme may be reviewed after students might have finished registration

error detected with the earlier schedule may necessitate having a new one

The requirements for proficiency certificate under CCE states that those with FSLC – First Leaving School Certificate can be admitted. Since many of those students are not even literate, how are they expected to study on their own i.e. doing self study?


Proficiency courses are not pure academic courses; it requires hands-on skills of students. Applicants for such courses are expected to have had some professional experience or desire to have such exposure and experience e.g. call centre skills and mobile phone repair.

It has been observed that one of the Schools, Centre for Continuing Education and Workplace Training offers a wide range of courses like Beauty Care and Modeling, Biotechnology, Seed Science etc, but you found that most of the materials issued to the students are not exactly in line with these courses which are very practical oriented or skills oriented, what is being done about this in order for the students to achieve these vocational skills.


(1) Course materials are not yet available for these courses thus management decided to put on hold such courses and advertise those courses that have course materials on ground.
(2) Applicants that had earlier registered for such courses were advised by the management through their centre managers to either opt for courses that have course materials on ground or wait for the availability of materials for such courses. To this end, it is hoped that the writer-in-residence workshop will come to the rescue.

Why is the matriculation number given by NOUN are sometimes said to be invalid any time a student want to register online.


The followings are the possible cause of invalid Matric No. 1. If the student leave space between NOU and the number

Why is the password that has been using to access my online, registration is sometimes said to be invalid?


If the student has wrongly typed the password, or there is caps lock on while his password is lower case or vice-versa, or if the student type zero in place of alphabet ‘0’. However, if problem persist, contact the ICT Department

Issuance of ID cards is after matriculation.

Why internet registration?


Internet Registration is for transparency, easy database management of student records, It also makes it registration available anytime anywhere with the principle of the ODL.

Why are there differences between the course codes given by the Study Centre and the ones on the internet.


The school is harmonizing course codes, however the student can do well to observe that the course title has not changed.
This happened when course codes were changed by the University. However, this has since been harmonized.

Why is there no stability of internet?


Bandwidth problem from the ISP as well as infrastructure problem of the cyber café.

No, you cannot go manually because NOUN education is online based.

I paid my money piece meal and the computer is refusing what I do?


The computer accept piece meal but it will not accept piece meal for a first timer that the money he/she want to login is not up to the compulsory payment of N21,500 in bulk to pay.

Sometimes when we go to the internet to check for our courses we either see wrong courses or the courses have disappeared?


They disappear due to poor network.

I paid for GST 105 but could not find it in the internet?


It can only occur if the school has not uploaded the course in the table containing available courses for registration or if there is change in course code.

Why are students are no longer sent information from the headquarters via their e-mail text messages?


They are still being sent; A student may not receive messages due to wrong incorrect e-mail address or GSM No. , please update your database.

Why can’t all course materials be posted online for students to have access to, through specialized pin codes?


Student will only have access to courses relevant to their registered programme.

Why is it that there is no cyber café or business centre within the premises for students to pay the services?


The university is not a business enterprise and does not encourage any. However, the University is working hard to provide computer laboratory in all the study centers across the federation, presently some Study Centres now have computer laboratory.

Are facilitation classes mandatory?


Attendance to facilitation classes is not compulsory however it is very necessary for you to attend and you must submit all your Tutor Marked Assignments on time.

Staff at the study centres is to help every student at every stage of their study in order for them to achieve their academic objectives. However when such support is not forthcoming, endeavour to see your counsellor who is there for you at any time or where the counsellor is not available or not forth coming, see the Centre Manager

Yes You must properly plan your study by putting into consideration the following
1) You must register for the courses or work load that you are capable of carrying in a semester putting into consideration your other commitments in your life

3) proper budgeting of your time and management
4) Consider ways whereby other support net e.g. Family Friends can assist you
5) prioritize your social and commitment vis-à-vis your study time
5) Identify study and learning skills that are appropriate to your learning styles and learn and use them
6 ) Support staff ( Study Centre Manager, Student Counsellors, Facilitators, ICT and other administrative staff ) are available at all time and ready to assist you plan your study and help you overcome socio-psychological and academic difficulties associated with studying at a distance
7) You must ensure that you acquire all the necessary study materials for every course you offer in your programmme

1) First of all you must endeavour to be in contact with your counsellor, facilitator, Study centre manager or other students through phone, internet, or face to face etc.

3) Chat forum on the web with your colleagues

Efforts are being intensified to have physical structures in all the centres very soon and renovate the existing ones. Centres that are on the temporary sites will soon move to their permanent sites, which are being designed to meet international standard

If you need help, not only on registration on line, contact the Centre Student Counsellor or ICT staff in case of computer related problems.

You are expected to belong to a study group or study groups and where and when the group meets is at the discretion of the members. If you have not joined any group please contact your Student Counsellor

Electricity is a national problem, however, the Study Centre Manager is making effort to supply electricity through alternative means( Generating plant)

NOUN academic calendar is flexible.

NOUN does not accommodate its students on campus. It's a University without walls because it runs the ODL in line with our Motto: Work and Learn.

Why was it scraped during Shagari regime?


NOUN was first established in July, 1983, during Alhaji Shehu Shagari’s regime not scrapped. In 1984, because of various defects and some reasons advanced by the Federal Government, the Act of 1983, which established the University, was suspended by General Muhammad Buhari's regime. NOUN was then resuscitated by Chief Olusegun, Obansanjo’s regime on 1st October, 2002.

How does the University operate?


The Headquarters houses the Principal Officers of the University, Deans of schools and Directors. The study Centre Managers in the states represent the University at the various states. The Head of State and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is the Visitor to the University. The Governing Council is headed by a Pro- Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor is the overall administrative and academic Head of the University. He is in charge of day-to-day administration of the University. The Senate of the University is the highest academic organ of the University. The decisions of this body on academic matters are final.

Does the Nursing Council recognize NOUN certificate?


NOUN has not produced a Nursing graduate to test this question There is every reason to believe that the Nursing Council will recognize our Certificate since NOUN has complied with all their requirements and NOUN works in close collaboration with the Council.

Is NOUN certificate as valuable as that of conventional university?


Yes, because NOUN curricula and synopsis for all its programmes conform to NUC minimum academic standards.

Some of our programmes will mature for accreditation this year.
However, all NOOUN programmes have been audited by the NUC.

Hours of facilitation are computed according to the credit load allotted to the courses. The University operate in a semesterless.

Why do we have to pay per semester instead of per session?


A. NOUN operates Pay As You Go system that afford the student the opportunity to register for courses and exam they intend to write. Student can equally pay huge amount at a go and use it gradually until he finish.

Are chargeable fees expected to be paid all at once?


Yes, Chargeable fees are compulsory fees which comprises of:

Caution Deposit
Matriculation fees
Library fees
I. D card fees
Registration fees

They are to be paid once on registration.

Caution fee in the prospectus was N5, 000.00. Now it is N10, 000.00 please say something about it (an appeal)


It is =N=7,500.00 for the current session (2008/2009).

This depends on the program the students choose to run.

Pls I did not know the pin number I will use for my application. Is it the number before my name on the receipt or any other one. Then I've not be able to sign up.
