hehehe Haba now Okafor, wetin my depending on Mummy and Daddy has to do with this, all i was saying was this thread wasnt the right place to advertise your stuff, there are other threads meant for that. Thank you.

Now back to my debate.

What is the essence in employing about 2000 people while affecting the demand-supply adversely?

So what you are saying now is this, you prefer the availability of a product at a cheaper price rather than taking care of the welfare of the people. People can continue roaming about the streets without jobs, whilst the price of one commodity(cement for goodness sake) that has no real direct effect in the livelihood of the masses remains cheap.

Now I am the one with the NIgerian mentality now. WHat a price to pay for one persons greed, of getting to have a way of selling his own commodity, rather than allowing someone that can provided jobs for the masses, to do it.

What I said is that his business skills have affected the lives of so many ordinary Nigeria in much negatively because of the high costs that came about.

Anybody that can afford to import cement is not an ordinary Nigerian , my brother. And we can live without cements. All we need is good education, availability of jobs, and basic ammenities my brother. Thats just the way it is.

If it is a Nigerian mentality. then so shall it be. I am a proud Nigerian, unlike some people who have turned a whitemans soil as something to associate themselves with.
You should keep your crazy Nigerian mentality to yourself.
Oh yes I would, atleast I don't claim to have an americana mentality. Thank you.

Buddies,
To succeed in business, to reach the top, an individual must know all it is possible to know about that business. In my opinion, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has paid his dues. Basically, I do not understand all these hogwash about DIRTY MONEY. Does it exist anywhere in the world? If it does why is your ward living in abject poverty? Could it be that everyone in your ward hate affluence? Common guys, let’s talk like educated people. Why should anyone attempt to kill the goose that lays the golden egg? This is a cruel libel in the person of Alhaji Aliko Dangote. For the mere fact that he has done what you are not capable of ever doing is not enough reason to nail him or give him names.

I hate to see charlatans criticizing Alhaji Aliko Dangote. I am not related to him in anyway and have never met him in my entire life and may not even get to meet him but he remains my role model in the competitive global marketplace. Though I am not from a rich home like Alhaji Aliko Dangote but I have also tasted millions of naira in my own little levels and I have been there and knows how it works. There is NO such thing as DIRTY MONEY. The only thing that exists is: The sign on the door of opportunity reads PUSH. But do you have the wisdom it requires to push that door of opportunity?

If ever DIRTY MONEY exist somewhere in your village, I will simply advice that the only thing I regard as dirty money are the money that is looted by our politrickcians from Nigeria's economy to build castles in other countries like Europe, America and Asia.

Alhaji Aliko is a business man that I admire so much and he is worthy of emulation because of his love for his country, Nigeria and it is because of him that I made up my mind to return to Nigeria and invest in my own capacity and with God on my side, I may be able to reduce the Nigerian unemployment market with at least 15 people for a start.
It's a kind of spiritual snobbery that makes people think they can be happy without money.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote is a human being like you and me and we can do better than him. I am sure he cannot dispute this fact. So I implore all Nigerians, home and abroad to Rise above the storm and discover the sunshine as Alhaji Aliko Dangote has done. Let’s remain focused on the journey to greatness rather than sitting still and criticizing industrious Nigerians. –

Aliko Dangote is a ruthless monopolist, I am not fooled by the little business mind epilogue up there.

Re: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by Ada1: 7:00pm On Dec 03, 2005
Okay, I don't even know where to start because I have a lot of conflicting thoughts on this issue. First and foremost money makes money, that is just a fact the world over. One thing I know is that I don't knock people for trying to get ahead in life. Aliko had the option of being a useless rich child, but he decided to use his position and connection to get to where he is. I don't see anything wrong in that.
We seem to forget that we are in a global economy, in Nigeria we have a culture of dependency and we fill that anyone that has made it needs to help all of Nigeria. For businesses it all boils down to profit, so whether or not Aliko is hiring 2000 - 10,000 people it doesn't really change anything. Aliko is not Nigeria, when he sits down to make decisions he is thinking, "what will be beneficial for the company.how can we maximize profits while reducing costs". His uttermost thought must not have to be how can I help Nigerians.
Re: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by omon(m): 9:00pm On Dec 03, 2005
Why do you guys complain of a hardworking man. Would you rather have him take those investments to swiss bank or Ghana kpa-kpa, or have the foreigners buy up our assets? I think we should commend a man who believes in his country.
Re: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by madam: 4:36pm On Dec 06, 2005
Omon thank u so much... some people use their legs to think i.e they walk on their heads
Re: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by obua: 11:31am On Dec 22, 2005
Dangote is for sure a business man.
He is not just a Govt contractor.
Do you know that he is the 1st individual company to build a massive 90km gas pipeline to power the Obajana cement plant in Kogi State. This gas will also fuel a massive power station that will be fed into the PHCN (NEPA) grid. The cement plant can take 1/2 of Nigerians cement consumption
His macaroni plant cost well above 2billion naira. He is also investing in sugar plantation , rice ,steel.
This is one guy that has the guts that most money bags don't.
Pls dont pull him down.
Alot of nigerians are just interested in importing of goods for donkey years without even visiting the plant where such goods are made.
Dangote has taken the bull by the horn and is manufacturing a lot of products.
He might be termed a monopolist, but business is for fast/ smart people not for slow and shortsighted people.
Pls lets encourage the guy

The day Nigeria has 20 Dangotes is the day Nigeria will come out of the wood.

Re: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by Centurion: 11:41pm On Jan 15, 2006
I can only laugh when people begin to compare Dangote to Branson, Gates etc. How international is Dangote's business. Would he even have the savvy and integrity to operate in a real business environment. Dangote and people like him are simply people that have taken advantage of the unregulated business climate in Nigeria, together with their 'friends' in government to milk the economy of Nigeria.
Lest I forget, Dangote's money came as a result of vast foreign exchange deals when Babangida was in power and not from the so called 'hard work'. Secondly, he was the only person given a license to import sugar during. the Abacha era (see also sabaco).
No matter how much you cover shit, the smell still wallows out.
Let's hope that one day true entrepreneurs will rise in Nigeria, not just glorified middle men.
Re: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by joftech(m): 9:57pm On Jan 16, 2006
Centurion take am easy o.

While it's true that he may not compete with those people (Branson etc) but at least he is trying in his own little way.

And i want you to know that Dangote is not all "that" you have portrayed him to be.

Everywhere there's dirty money, have you ever heard about the Chinese Opium Trade.

We should not forget that most of these Nigerian big men are using bank loans to finance their businesses and lavish lifestyles.
Re: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by madam: 3:39pm On Jan 17, 2006
U guys just open your mouths and talk Trash.... Even if its dirty money and he is putting it to good use then fine... after all people have carried our money to do tummy tucks and facials and we saw the results... U guys keep saying he got his money because he was the only one given licence... how man nigerias have they spoon fed like that and come up with something good...... Please tell me because i am sure they are just a handfull.... Everybody is praising Adenuga now is he still not one of babaginda's boy....

If Aliko employs u now and pays u 300k a month tell me u would through his money at his face... unless of course u are already earning that or your earnings are either in pounds or dollars...

I am not saying he is all that ooh... but give d man a break he has tried, 4 himself and the mouths he is feeding....

He is one hell of a humble man and i know exactly what i am saying....

if i may contribute to this debate; i do not know dangote personally but i do function in a sector affected directly by his business moves. i frankly respect his guts. Its critical to note that he has INVESTED in putting infrastructures in place which is quite at variance with what a LOT of other "Nigerian Businessmen" do.

yes he relies heavily on political patronage to up the ante but that is a fixture in any emerging economy. for those who study history, anti trust laws in the US were borne out of a need to cut people like Rockefeller of standard oil and co to size. it has even been used successfully against almighty Bill Gates

A trite principle of business is to stay ahead and keep your competition in check. In my opinion Dangote is doing a good job of that and also creating employment in the process too. Q.E.D

p.s. the arguement that he should play on the international market to prove his worth makes no sense. when he finishes sewing up the nigerian market IF HE SUCCEEDS , then he can attempt 2 do that. as a further aside, why should he even bother trying to prove a point to any of us?

I wonder what else is expectd from this man, sometimes we prefer to look at the negative sides of everything but meanwhile there are great better things to look at on the positive.

Business is all about making money the guy knows how to make is money must he dilute it with your ideas and perceptions that are entirely unknown in his business world to become a great guy?

Connections or no connections the guy is ruling an empire originally set up by him and according to his standards. Theres no reason fo him to set it according to other peoples standards.
Bottomline, he is still in business while others are dying.
Re: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by wolerex(m): 5:07pm On Jan 25, 2006
i feel that it's the basic nature of man at work. we tend to question others and hold them to standards we might struggle to measure up to if given the chance.

i wonder what many of us would do differently if truly given the chance to be in his shoes.

and he's added a product to his line of products.he's into juice making:Dansa, thats the brand name.
his aim is to chase five alive out of the nigerian market.buy one and taste it, then tell me how it is.

so?,
what have they to show for it?

i think the guy is worth appreciating.

all the people talking, lets imagine this guy closes all his business interest in Nigeria (God forbid), for one reason or the other.
what happens to the workers?
what happens to the economy?
the shareholders?

abeg leave the guy

for those comparing him with Richard Branson and co. I'm of the believe that you judge by the field where you are playing the ball.
is Virgin using the kinda planes they fly in other countries like US etc in Nigeria?
mind you if he (Aliko) wants to go invest outside Nigeria he will succeed and he doesnt have to go to US or Europe, he can as well stay in Africa.
and i can assure you he will be welcome in Asia where they appreciate job creation.
he will get cheaper labour and he will bring them in as imported goods,

so pls u people should appreciate the man abeg.

This is not an exageration when i went to naija Dansa was the best juice i have ever had. It can compete with the very best juices here in UK. After Warren Buffett, Dangote is my next Idol. Very brilliant man.
