Jailer

Am in chains you’re in chains too I wear uniforms, you wear uniforms too Am a prisoner, you’re a prisoner too Mr Jailer

I have fears you have fear too I will die, you sef go die too Life is beautiful don’t you think so too Mr Jailer

Am talking to you jailer Stop calling me a prisoner Let he who is without sin- Be the first to cast the stone Mr Jailer

You suppress all my strategy You oppress every part of me What you don’t know, you’re a victim too Mr Jailer

You don’t care about my point of view If I die another will work for you So you threat me like a modern slave Mr Jailer

You don’t care about my point of view If I die another will work for you So you threat me like a modern slave Mr Jailer

If you walking in a market place Don’t throw stones Even if you do you just might hit One of your own Life is not about your policies All the time So you better rearrange your Philosophies and be good to your fellow man jailer

I hear my baby say I wan be president I wan chop money From my government What he don’t know Be say Mr Jailer

360°

We don’t have to go The 360 degrees, Now its time we go the 180

You don’t have to climb The highest mountain For all you’re looking for Is within you

Open the eyes of your mind Your ears and mouth As you hear my words o o o

Pa ra ra n pa n pa ra re… I’ll be waiting I‘ll be

We still live in yesterday Many today’s they waste away But never the less it’s never late o

See the times have changed I thought you knew That this world, will Never ever wait for you

The world has gone past times of fighting So drop your guns and your swords And let us live all as one

We all need love and understanding So drop your guns and your swords And let us live all as one o o o

Pa ra ra n pa n pa ra re… I’ll be waiting I’ll be

Every nation across the ocean It’s more than just our colours We all need one another

Every people where ever you be It’s more than just our colours We all need one another

Bi’ban ké

I wake up I see you As you leave.

I feel it, I see it As you leave

When we kiss I want deep but you’re far away.

Bim ba n ke bo ban shun Fi mi si le Bim ba n ke bo jo ba n ro Fi mi si le.

He use to be my every thing Treated me like I was a queen What spell did u cast on me ? Or is it the make believe

You say girl never be afraid of ever ever loving me Those words I hung on too Oh God I was a fool

You became my bad habit Keeping up appearances/so you could notice

Even when you suddenly picked your things And left the keys/now its crazy

Bim ba n ke bo mi ban shun Fi mi si le Bim ba n ke bo jo ba n ro Fi mi si le.

Bim ba n ke o o o o Ko Kun ba si a Mo ti foro mi fo lu wa Ko sho,ko sho wa

Subway

Every day is not a holiday My life’s like a subway o I know this love don’t last

Look at me tell me what you see Do you believe this love is real o I know this love don’t last

I have come from faraway To see this go down the drain

I have waited patiently And this is what I get Emotionally failing me

My whole wild world is caving in I try so hard to express myself/but The woman in me/o o o don’t fade away

My mama say baby be careful If any body comes to say I love My papa say baby I warn you If anybody comes to say I love you

Now you asking me to trust you Tell me how am I supposed to When I know this love don’t last

Could this be the kind of love ? That my mum use to warn me about How will I know/that this love will last.

I have come from far away To see this go down the drain I have got so much to give

But I don’t know what I’ll get Emotionally failing me My whole wild world is caving in

I try so hard to express my self/but The woman in me don’t fade away.

Fire on the mountain

There is fire on the mountain And nobody seems to be on the run Oh there is fire on the mountain top And nobody is running

I wake up in the morning Tell you what I see on my TV screen I see the blood of an innocent child And everybody’s watching

Now am looking out my window And what do I see I see an army of a soldier man Matching across the street

Hey Mr soldier man Tomorrow is the day you go to war But you are fighting for another man’s cause And you don’t even know him

What did he say to make you so blind ? To you conscience and reason Could it be love for your country ? Or for the gun you use in killing

There is fire on the mountain And nobody seems to be on the run Oh there is fire on the mountain And nobody is arunnin

He Mr Lover man Can I get a chance to talk to you ? Cause you are fooling with a dead man’s corpse And you don’t know what you do

So you say you have a lover And you love her like know other So you buy her a diamond That someone has died on Don’t you think there something wrong/with this

Tell me who’s responsible For what we teach our children Is it the internet ? Or the stars on television Why o why o

So little Lucy turns sixteen And like the movie she’s been seeing She has a lover in her daddy She can’t tell nobody Till she makes the evening news

Eyé àdaba

Oju mo ti mo Oju mo ti mo mi Ni le yi o o Oju mo ti mo - mo ri re o

Eye adaba Eye adaba Eye adaba ti n fo lo ke lo ke Wa ba le mi o o Oju mo ti mo mo ri re o

I wake up at dawn As it dawn’s upon me I wake up to the sun Shining upon me

I see doves in the sky Birds flying high Then in silence I pray for peace For my people

(Translation)

No one knows

Just the other day, the other day
I was talking to the weather man
About today oh oh oh
And all,all he could say
Was no one knows tomorrow

See I can read the weather child
I can say maybe the rain will fall
The sun will shine oh oh ohh….
But that’s as far as my story goes

Cos no one knows tomorrow
Oh oh ha…no one knows tomorrow

Tell me what’s the need
To go to war/all the killings
Just to settle some one else’s score o o o
When the victory isn’t even sure
No one knows tomorrow

See, we can study history
and philosophy and Plato’s ideology
oh oh ohh…
But tomorrows still a mystery oh oh ohh

No one know tomorrow Oh oh ha…
no one knows tomorrow

Tomorrow is your opportunity to fail
Or be successful if you please, yes indeed

Tomorrow is a politician’s today
it’s the victim of decision
and the future of our children

So if I die someday,
Will I be in heavenly places ?
Singing halleluiah with an angel

On the piano or will I be
Just another contribution
To the earth, the tress, the grasses

As tomorrow slowly passes
No one know….no one knows

Peace

peace for the people who are gone yekpa for the ones not yet born oh oh oh for the people who are here oh oh oh for the people

I cry when I see that I am born I live when I see what I am to do

Cos life is all about All you sitting and looking at me Take one step at a time Cos if you jump, you’ll never believe

The thorns of life Them are whining and waiting for you and me They make a brother , I want to run away

Run away, run away, run away, we re ja si gbo

I don't understand why folks say that you can't tell Asa is Nigerian 'cause of her lyrics. I don't understand that at all.  This is the country that gave birth to Chinua Achebe (who just celebrated the 50th anniversary of "Things Fall Apart"), Wole Soyinka (Death & The King's Horseman), Cyprian Ekwensi (Burning Grass, Mallam Ilia's Passport), Mabel Segun (My Father's Daughter), Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, and so many other -- countless, in fact -- talented people in the arts.

So I just don't understand why that comment is being thrown around.

Hi everyone

In "Peace" Asa sings:
Peace for the people who are gone/ yekpa for the ones not yet born

I love this song and I wondered what yekpa means. Can somebody translate that please?

Thanks in advance,
Peace

Yekpa is used in many ways to express shocked, joy, pains etc.Its just yekpa.it was gotten from one of fela's terminologies yekparikpa.
