Why You Support The Football Club You Do?
« on: March 23, 2009, 02:29 PM »

People are often surprised nay shocked when I tell them I support Portsmouth.
It seems clubs like Pompey, 'Boro, Villa, or West Brom do not deserve any supporters
and I must have a loose screw for supporting such a club.

I support Pompey because I have an almost filial link to the place and I have supported them ever since I could
read those pool slips  Grin, so my support I think is wholly rational. But I am sure they are many who would
still be astounded by my choice.

I would like folks to state when they started supporting and why they support the club they do.

Lets just see how irrational my choice of club is  Undecided Undecided

You are a first class liar!  Grin

I believe you started supporting Pompey due to your predilection to Nigerian (& African) players!  Grin Whilst this is wholly commendable, it was a short sighted decision on your part as Diarra and Muntari have headed for greener pastures whilst Utaka and Kanu rest their respective trigenarian and quadragenarian legs on the bench. So how does it feel cheering on Dave Nugent every week? I can't imagine it!  Grin

Chelsea 1996  Tongue as Debo would say.

Interesting question.
Truth is if i tell people i was raised to support CFC, people won't believe.
I actually cleared this with Omo ibo, sometime ago.
Maybe cos lots of them knew the club from JMs days.
My maternal grand pop was an ardent die hard-supporter (yea, a foreigner)
I remeber the days of intense English hooliganism and how. . .  Lips sealed

I and my sibs were raised in his abode.
I don't intend telling my family history here.  Lips sealed
At first i hated the club and anything footy, till early 20s.
When it was  time to pitch tent, it only became natural to chose CFC
Like they say though, the rest is history.

TrueBlue since birth, ain't for fun.

Ignorance.
Some people who live in this very Naija support Leeds,
An uncle who schooled there in the UK and later came home still follows Leeds feverntly.

I don't expect a moron to understand.
I'm a Chelsea fan but with a soft spot for Arsenal  forget the yabbing
I was opportuned to have their supporters as friends while growing.
I could easily have chosen that club
And then the London factor.

Again, a moron like you won't understand nada.  Tongue

A moron?

Anyone who is juvenile enough to use smileys should be ignored - the again seeing as it is you, (a thick plank so I will make a exception.)

Take your thick - imbecilic and moronic stupidity back to nursery, (hence you have the intelligence of an amoeba!)

By the way, I'm curious to know as to what you mean by - opportuned? Nevertheless, I advise you to take plenty of grammar lessons.

Believe it or not, I don't like being disrespectful toward my own people - let alone a girl.

Bluediva and co. y'all should stop it!!! as infuriating as it is to know that most Chelsea fans joined after Mourinho copped them their first league title in donkey years there is no rule book that says it is not allowed to glory-hunt  Cheesy Cheesy

As for me i wasn't always a Premiership person back in them mid and late 90's as a young'in i would rather watch the Serie A (i enjoyed Milan and Fiorentina (because of Batistuta) La Liga (Barca,Madrid Athletico and Deportivo La Coruna where always fun to watch) and of course the Bundesliga (i was a Bayern Munich and BVB Borrusia Dortmund fan and don't accuse me of glory-hunting i was in my 8's 9's and early teens)

I started with Arsenal in 2001 because i was sick of Utd winning the league year in year out and Arsenal always seemed to give them a run for their money and i also had close family friends who where down with the Gunners and as time went on i mutated from a passive fan to an active fan

I dey respect u BIG TIME! for the team you support! Your not like the stereotypical Gunners, Red Devils, Blues or Reds supporters. Me i support spurs because i used to live near the stadium back in the 80s not because they won premiership or champions league. And i will support spurs till i die.

It is up to the other football clubs in England to up the ante and compete with Man Utd.
When Jose Mourinho was running away with it between 2004 and 2006, Ferguson knew he had a helluva job to do and he upped the ante.
He built a title winning squad, challenged Jose and wrestled the title away from him. .
That is what we expect Wenger, Benitez n Hiddink to be doing. Grin

This thread is for DSTV fans and co to come and defend their faith. Chelsea fans should come here and tell us which team they were supporting pre-Abramovich.

Then where are all the Real Madrid fans that were like uncountable in the early part of these century.

In Fajuyi hall OAU then I only knew 3 Barcelona fans but with Dinho and Etoo + Success glory hunters joined.

Then the first guy that was vocal as a Chelsea supporter sated the whole thing like a Joke before mid season we had like a Million Chelsea fans in the Hall.

I still pride myself as A BAYERN MUNICH FAn since 1991. Days of Telematch and football made in Germany

Its in Nigeria people tend to support the big teams.
Honestly, if i was raised in Newcastle or Sunderland,
I'll wear my support for them on my sleeves.
Just like i do for CFC.

Supporting CFC is just by luck if you like.
I succeded im making my better half a CFC fan.
I'm the number one critic of CFC, even though i don't criticize here.
