On the contrary , I strongly believe Seyi is doing her job well but the other two guys need to step up and act like men by being affirmative so we can have balanced assessment. But then again, you accused Seyi of being uncouth while you're also like her or even worse. For instance, you said 'Miss Shay foolishly posits....' I may be wrong but what this tells me is that you'll be more uncouth than Seyi, if you're one of the judges. Those who live in glass houses must not throw stones, they say.

Wow!! Your writing skill is top notch, I read this post more than three times just admiring your writing. I can recall while in high school I go everywhere with a dictionary, always trying to learn new words so I can speak and write like Sole Soyinka. But unfortunately I could not go any further than High school because life and chance happens to us all, we cannot dictate what fate will dish to us. Please if you won't mind I will like to know if you are just gifted with this skill or it is through learning you developed such powerful diction. Because I will love to train my kids to have such great command of the English language, thank you.

The above mentioned music reality show currently running on DSTV and GOTV platforms may likely be the "wackiest" (for want of words) music reality show in recent times going by the quality of opinions thus far by the jury, made up of a 3man panel of Obi Asika; a Record Label Exec, Seyi Shay; a perpetual upcoming artiste going by the unpopularity of most, if not all her songs and DJ Sose; who at best is skillful at selecting songs that'll mostly appeal to club audiences.

One would have thought the record label executive in the person of Asika, who ordinarily should have been exposed to artistes of various kinds, will as a father figure, be in full control of the selection process, by way of influencing the opinions of the others even though the antecedents of past judges on the show clearly sets a pace for divergence in opinions that in the end, engenders a robust decision for or against the candidates. This is terribly in deficit this time on the show, as as much as a snarl from the perpetual upcoming artiste is enough influence of the opinions of two supposedly mature and independently minded men. Sose even managed to take his obvious lack of knowledge of music and consequently, a lack of sound judgement to annoying levels by always concurring to whatever Seyi Shay breathes, despite his body language telling otherwise.

All of the above is obvious in the audition of the young music producer, whose image you'll find attached to this post. I can bet that IK, the show host was shell shocked that the young man had to be turned down for no reasonable point, except for displaying his musical dexterity. If that's a crime, then pray tell me what Idols is all about?

I was part of the very first Idol show in Nigeria that produced the likes of Timi Dakolo and Omawunmi and what I can clearly remember is that singing foreign songs or even displaying your vocal dexterity wasn't a crime. If it was compulsory for candidates to do local pangolo songs for the show to be seen as "Nigerian Idol", like Miss Shay foolishly posits, then I dare the show organisers to switch the nomenclature to "Naija Oosa/Ojuju etc" and compel the judges to speak Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.

Besides, in the first Idol show in Nigeria, the jury made up of seasoned music industry legend like Dede Mabiaku, Radio Joc; Dan Foster and a Ghanian lady popularly referred to as "It's not werking for me" had their independent opinions of the candidates even though one out of the trio always played the devil's advocate.

Question now is; who the hell is the devil's advocate that'll ensure a robust decision making process in the ongoing Idol show, when from all we see, all trio are sleeping with their heads in the same direction??

Reason the current panel needs to be disbanded, asides the joke Seyi Shay has made of the show by unprofessionally making mockery of young chaps she is meant to encourage, thereby wreaking psychological damages that may be indelible in the lives of the up and coming generation.

PS: I don't know the guy being auditioned in the attached pictures as I am speaking for countless others that are in my opinion, obviously far ahead of the judges musically, but were turned down.

Did you watch the way they all treated Kayode the yoruba guy?

They first asked if he was actually 27 and Seyi insinuated he was using Football age, they all assumed he was violent reason they said he should be made to leave the premises before they will all come out.

Your analysis is bias as well, every individual has a style, Seyi is doing her job, there's no point lying to people or sugarcoating the truth, if your performance is bad, she says it as it is, there is no rule that says everyone has to be nice.
The guy you put his pic had a bad performance, let's call a spade a spade.
If you had even written in defence of the 17year old girl that sang well and played the piano, that would have been fair to the ear but you gave your obvious bias out.

U totally spoke my mind u know! Seyi shay is just one foolish aunty that lacks moral and psychological balance, hence her constant mockery of same chaps that often look up to her for some sort of encouragement. One would wonder how she was even chosen as a judge, when she also stands as an upcoming artiste in Nigeria. No doubt the normal play of politics, in selecting people for a particular role or job was the case. Each of the judges are practically inexperienced or qualified enough and should be disbanded immediately, cos they don't even know if their Judgement's right or wrong sef. No be person wey sabi, na em go fit judge another person.?

I agree with you totally.
The major problem with Nigerians is that where they do not even have the basic, elementary knowledge of a particular issue or field, they start pontificating as if they know all.
Suddenly, experts have emerged on Nairaland.
If you follow the program well, you will see that some of the contestants were even saying that their friends and in some cases mothers told them they could sing. As if singing in a church choir or winning a local competition is all you need to be a winner.

But we have seen many cases of people who could really sing, and were booted out of the show because of Shay’s biased judgement and ethnic bigotry. Seyi shay is acting all wind up and always on the edge.

You need to listen to her when she speaks to these youngsters! Not iota of decorum, nor encouragement. I think she needs a good fuckkk! Pardon my language, but I am very angry with her dispositions!

She started pleading for a second chance till the extent of bursting into tears that she had to resign from her job to pursue music.

I felt terribly sad by these set of inhumane folks acting as judge who are suppose to judge and encourage people to bring out the best in them doing the opposite of that.

Her choice of song let her down. She was better when she rap. She knew it. The only thing I don't like about the judges is over criticism at time.
But they know what they are doing

A video of the event would make more sense. I have no idea what I should get triggered over. As usual, Nigerians are not watching this show nor The Voice. If it was a three lettered twenty-four hour show, the front page would receive at least eight updates daily. We're going to the third week of both talent shows and only one update has smelt front page so far.

A lot of people watch "THE VOICE" but you see this sham of a show called "Nigerian Idols", nahh... Its a waste of intellectual capabilities by watching the show...

A black man who has no idea of what music sounds like, always photocopying an upcoming artiste's (Seyi Shay) opinion and a DJ who is even more unpopular than DJ cuppy...

Mheeeen.... The show should be scrapped or better and more competent judges brought on

Personally i think the essence of this thread is to suggest that the organisers should have chosen people who know about music and not just by popularity or fame or whether or not their songs trended...

Take Cobhams for example, that guy knows a lot about music (popularity aside).

Another splendid example would be Timi Dakolo, that's another person that knows about music, even Waje, Chidinma Ekele, Chike or Praiz are better candidates than the lot out there on that stage...and there are many others like them who are even better than those i suggested..

Hopefully they learn from this and do better in their selection of judges when the show goes live.

Personally, I believe Sheyi Shay is a disgrace and shouldn't be a judge of anything. Her criticism seems to stem from personal hate as if someone is trying to overthrow her useless career. She uses hurt words and has absolutely no tangible reasons for rejecting some persons that should normally have gotten a yes. She should watch BGT/AGT and learn

I was thinking you were going to write about 'the voice' which I turned off after the contestant who sang ego by djine with a nice voice was not given a nod by the judges. Falz or whatever shouldn't be there. In fact he will fail the test if becomes a contestant with another name. The idol judges aren't perfect but have a transparent process of judgement where they state their reasons for not giving one a nod, and most time are correct.

I'm not even going to be bias . The first time I read a thing about the program was when Seyi Shay told one of the contestants that he can't make a living from singing so I decided to watch the show.

I actually watch the voice and Nigeria idol (NI)now . My assessment is this .I really don't think the NI judges are being unfair in their judgement because it's just so funny when you watch some of those contestant sing ,you can't help but laugh.I wonder why they bring such comedian to the show but I guess they are trying to give everyone equal opportunity .

As a matter of fact,I know someone who didn't make it on the voice and got a yes on Nigerian idol.I believe they screen out contestant for audition for '" the Voice' not NI . However, sometimes those jury on Nigerian idol can be unprofessional with comments esp seyi

GeneralPula:
Continuation from the moniker above me..

I wonder why they don’t use real music legends like lagbaja and co..

Sheyi shay wey no sabi sing, nah she wan pick talent..

As in ehh!!
She regards herself as some kind of superstar.
Na rubbish she just dey say..
They just base their judgement in some stupid point seyi makes and the 2 monkeys concur to say no to nearly all aspiring musicians who came for auditions..
The show sucks..

Seyi Shay wants the be the Simon Cowell of the show; the nasty talentless judge who doesn’t hold back anything

Thing is... they watch previous recordings of the original franchise and then try to be like the judges.

This is why I also dislike The Voice, all the drama behind pushing the buzzer. They hear a voice and they all begin an epileptic seizure of moving their bodies and going for the buzzer but not pushing it and gurning their faces l
