The truth is that Dangote has enjoyed too much government help.... I doubt he would still be doing so well if not for that.

Instead of this project to go down, Nigerian government would rather take it over and buy the debt.

How is it humanly possible to cram so much IGNORANCE into one article? sad
Mr. Bako must be the sort of “seasoned economists” that have been in charge of the hapless Nigerian economy.

First, the NNPC is planning to take 20% in SIX private refineries, not just Dangote’s…
See this Reuters article: https://www.reuters.com/article/nigeria-refinery-equity-idAFL2N2NI1QL

Nonetheless, as already discussed here on Nairaland, Dangote is NOT HAPPY with the proposed acquisition…
See the following thread: https://www.nairaland.com/6626446/mele-kyari-refinery-dangote-not

Meanwhile, Dangote Refinery BOUGHT (not gifted) forex from the CBN forex window…
At the OFFICIAL rate that it’s sold to ALL companies in the real sector (not to mention for school fees, travel, health tourism, etc.).

The obtuse drivel about costing and delays merely amplifies this dude’s cluelessness. No other refinery project elsewhere involves reclaiming land bigger than Victoria Island and building a virtual port, because Apapa cannot handle the equipment for this project. Furthermore, dude seems clueless that Covid disrupted value-chains GLOBALLY (or does he think the equipment is manufactured in Nigeria) and consequently delayed most (if not ALL) large-scale infrastructure projects around the world.

Finally, debt to build a refinery would be long-term…
Therefore, it is SILLY to peddle beer-parlor rumors about banks already calling in their loans.

So many Nigerians love to attack success while celebrating mediocrity and failure…
Whether it is due to primordial ethnic sentiments, envy or just darn right IGNORANCE, it’s a succinct self-indictment!

Politicians and Nigerian govt built that refinery.
Dangote isn't an astute business man.

We will hear lots of news about that refinery as time goes on.

Meanwhile orient refinery in imo is almost complete and nobody heard pim. No hype except releasing statement when necessary.
Nobody see the man for asorock.

Dangote, singlehandedly made billionaire by Nigerian government. They can unmade him but north always protect their own.
A lesson South is yet to learn

This is a private project, that may consume the entire Dangote Industry.

All his estimated worth in cash and assets can't even finance this project.

I doubt the Nigerian government can raise $4 billion in loans to invest in an overprice oil refinery. If outside investors are shunning the Dangote refinery project then there must be some serious problems.

VALUATION

A project that started as a 9billion dollars project is now being valued at over 16 billion dollars, albeit incorrectly. Sampling expert opinion from leading players in the oil & Gas industry, it is estimated that a refinery of that size should ideally cost within the range of 11 to 12 billion dollars to build in Nigeria. Notwithstanding the conflicting figures, it was recently announced that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, will be taking a 20% stake in the uncompleted, non-functional Dangote Refinery at the cost of 3.8billion dollars. Whilst this baffled many, NNPC’s actions effectively over-valued the yet to be completed refinery to 19billion dollars.

Sure!

I am sure if Dangote can go back in time he would never touch the idea of a refinery with a 'one-mile' pole... embarassed

Now he is stuck!! If Buhari can't save him, is it a southerner that will

I just knew something was not right with the many operation resumption postponements.

What a bad business risk to take!!!

Dangote knows little about Oil and Gas, but his domineering mentality and take it all led him into this.

He failed with the Noodles line, wanted to experiment with Arsenal acquisition, now this project is almost dying.

He took a big gamble on this one
