Citizens are part of country, govts make countries citizens can be proud of.
These Nigerians representing other countries are not doing it from their pockets. They are doing it because those countries provide enabling ground and environment for growth. Right from their lower schools to higher institutions to professional level. There is a defined path if you choose to dedicate yourself to it. The policy of growth and development has to be institutionalized not a policy of corruption.

Countries where athletes have it all to do by themselves are the ones that rarely do well on the global stage. Not because their individual citizens don’t have the potentials but because they have been neglected by their governments.

We fielded basketball teams mostly filled with American based players despite having our own leagues but who can blame the coaches? If the coaches had gone with players from our poorly managed leagues imagine we’d even qualify for the Olympics?

Look around you and see talents abound. Look around you and ask what platforms are available for the common man to harness, enhance showcase and excel with his talents?
I leave you with this pic below.

Citizens MAKE a country, not vice versa…
Meanwhile, athletes represent countries and NOT governments.

They were selected on MERIT in countries were you DON'T NEED any LETTER from a MINISTER. In Nigeria, there are many people who are very good but because they don't have CONNECTION with the OGAS @ D Top their careers are BURIED fast because their careers DIE EARLY when HOPE is LOST.

Victor Moses did not proudly represent Nigeria. He was only good enough for Nigeria. What professional footballer with love for their father land retires at 27 (peak football age)?
9jaRealist:

Even though you clearly missed the point…
Victor Moses is reportedly an orphan whose parents were killed in Kaduna, but proudly represented Nigeria.

Ultimately, a country is built or DESTROYED by its citizens…
Nigeria’s condition is a culmination of the varying actions of ALL Nigerians by commission or omission (including Fulanis).

PS: Btw, are Fulanis the only killers in Nigeria?
Otherisms is primordial demagoguery, while ethnic siblings also slaughter each other in Umeleri-Aguleri, Ogoni-Andoni, Ife-Modake, etc.

Good one… grin
Always happy for achieving Nigerians/Africans, regardless of the color of their jerseys.

It's Sad cos those people should have done it for Africa instead of their adopted country or continent.

Er…Victor was “good enough” to represent ENGLAND at U16, U17, U19 and U21 levels… grin
Including starting for the England U21 team just about a year before opting to play for the Super Eagles.

Why is it always hard to find aboki on the medal list? They have the attributes to contest against Kenya and Ethiopia in the marathon race if they take it serious.

Citizens are NOT just “part of the country”…
Citizens ARE the country, and even the government is made up of CITIZENS!

PS: Btw, the NBA, where most of those “American based players” were drawn from…
Is NOT a government institution. It is NOT “managed” by the US government, but by private CITIZENS!

It’s not mutually exclusive…
The Italian 100m winner is also an American.

There’s nothing “sad” about it…
When Giannis won the NBA title, he used the global platform to try to inspire Nigerian/African kids.

This the 21st century….
Instead of focusing on “tribal” national enclaves, these phenomena highlights our SHARED humanity.

How can you include Foluke Akinradewo without Chiaka Ogbogu, another Nigerian who is in the same team with her?
And Ujah's full name is Chijindu Ujah not Chindu
Also, what of Monica Okoye who won Silver with the Japan women's basketball team?
What of Barthélémy Chinenyeze who won gold with the France Men's Volleyball Team?

Give us a comprehensive list abeg!

Enjoy your musings while the exodus continues. Salam.

“Exodus” does not alter people’s biological nationality nor ancestry…
There are literally millions of US, UK, French, Chinese, etc., people spread across the globe.

The notion that all Nigerians must live in Nigeria is both primitive and counterproductive…
Nonetheless, Nigeria’s condition is the culmination of the varying actions of ALL Nigerians by commission or omission (including exiting).

There were many other Nigerians that played for other countries.
The title said "5 Nigerians who won medals for other countries." I think it should be Nigerians, not 5 because there are more Nigerians who won medals.

When Oduduwa Republic and Biafra republic come up these athletes will have conducive environment and understanding officials and government to take good care of them.

Almajiris don't have anything to do with Olympics but throwing of bombs, rockets to Jerusalem and many other dangerous athletic are their preferences which currently Olympics committee have not sanction.

So, let us move forward.
