October 22. How long does the immigration process takes upon arrival?
badmanjo:
I'm booking through Wak*now and they said as long as I'm just transiting through UK I don't need to quarantine... I booked for Oct 15tg, how about you?

Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by badmanjo(m): 12:20pm On Sep 26, 2021
I can't really say because it's a case by case thing and could depend on the immigration officer you meet. Is ur POE Toronto?

Did you get a return ticket or one way? Do you know if British airways will accept one way ticket?

Good evening All,

Before you buy a one-way, kindly ask your agent to check for a return on different airlines. Sometimes, return are either cheaper than one-way or the difference will not be much, and since you need a return for PTA, you might need to try it out...

Blessings!

Thanks, although I've already gotten the one-way ticket and I heard you can now apply for PTA with a one-way ticket on a student visa

The point is that its affordable and it can get you from Lagos to Toronto safely by God's Grace.
The 2nd leg of the flight was frustrating for ME but they fed us well sha.

Documents to present: copr, passport, vaccination card, arrivecan receipt, etc etc

Please who has experience or knows someone who brought an infant with them while studying in Canada?
What was it like generally?

Were you or the person able to school and work part time alongside having to care for the infant?

Also what was average fee for daycare or babysitter for the infant?

the earnings from part time work/ 20 hours a week cant even pay for day care. So what is the point. If you want to come with your child come with enough funds or have your husband send you money for bills.

Thanks a lot for your valuable input Mum! I don't mind child redoing a year, not a problem at all. And like you say, a gifted child will always shine and be seen (a lot are "socially challenged" but not all) cheesy.

Definitely after a well rounded individual, social, sporty and smart not only one that is strong academically, but I'd heard about "gifted" schools and/or charter schools and the WISC V path....... so thought to ask. Thanks for your insight.

I'm conversant with the International Baccalaureate program and hope to tow that path later DV....IB is quite versatile and can be used to get into US Unis as well.

M...........n wink

Well done asking and seeking out the best path for your child. I would say a lot of parents in this part of the world don't even know these programs exist or care about it so definitely take advantage of it.
The only thing I would add is you know your child and his/her abilities so definitely make sure you sign them up/ask for any programs that will help them.
My son as an example, at the beginning of Covid when they had to go to online learning was seating in the same area as me while I was working and I noticed that he was always unhappy and quiet during math which was unusual because math is one of his strongest points.
Later found out that he was bored with what was being taught and as a result loosing focus. Not bragging, but he was well above the level of what they were teaching and him going over that was affecting his focus and behavior in the classroom cos he would be done super fast. Spoke to his teacher in the most polite way I could and she was able to work out something where he was doing higher level/grade math and since then he has been doing well. This is a US experience but I am pretty sure you have a similar education structure in Canada.

Long and short is please please and please make sure you watch your kids and speak up when you see something that is off. Ask the teachers as usually they don't offer up the information in all cases. As stated by others if your child is exceptional some teachers would let you know but a lot of them have so much going on and can hardly keep up so I wouldn't rely solely on the teacher evaluation esp in middle and high school where they have over 500 kids passing through their class daily. As long as you are not forcing it on the child i would ask upfront about the gifted program and get your child assessed.
