The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its national wide strike — two months after the action began.

On August 2, NARD embarked on a strike over “irregular payment of salaries”, among other issues.

Efforts of different stakeholders, including President Muhammadu Buhari and the house of representatives, to ensure the resident doctors shelve the strike did not yield the desired result.

The National Industrial Court, in a ruling on a suit filed by the federal government, had asked the resident doctors to return to work.

However, the striking doctors faulted the court’s ruling, vowing to appeal the order.

But speaking in a interview with TheCable on Monday, Godiya Ishaya, NARD president, said the association has officially called off the strike.

He said the decision to call off the strike was made in an emergency meeting with the association’s national executive council.

He added that the doctors will resume on Wednesday.

“We’ve officially suspended the strike to resume 8:00 am on Wednesday. We made the decision in the wee hours of today. We held an emergency meeting from 5:30pm on Sunday to the morning hours of today, and the NEC decided that having reviewed the progress made so far, the strike should be suspended,” he said.

Good...but the issues still remain...especially the funding bit.

We spend less than $2 billion for the health of 200million or more people....when we should be spending 50 times that.

Nigeria needs side hustle...apart from oil.

The doctors strike was allowed to continue for 2 good months. That can only happen in a failed state.

zinaunreal:
Tinubu is In uk

Because UK citizens pay the taxes, and insurance premiums needed to have free, quality health care. They also do the hard work of holding their leaders accountable for their leadership, and they run an economy that is markedly diversified.

But if we bring that rate into Nigeria, we would be crying about how poor we are.

The UK spent 269 billion pounds or 149,685,910,800,000 naira last year....on health, which is about ten times our budget.

Tinubu is part of the problem, but the truth is, most of us Nigerians too are also part of the problem. Both this current and past governments have been corrupt and have done nothing to diversify our economy, and yet they have their praise singers on this site.

If you want a good health care system, work for it, vote the right leaders, support polices that would make our economy grow..and get off its oil depenendcy, and debt dependency, and subsidy dependency, and stop asking for a slice of the naitonal cake without a thought about how the ingredients are sourced.

After so many patients have died?
President Buhari should try and pay them well, make them comfortable, if all of them travel out of Nigeria, how will we do?
If our politicians are collecting bogus salaries? Why not pay doctors well?
They save lives, that is why they are different.
Please this strike should not happen again.

It will be difficult for ARD to go back on strike again!

2 months salary lost, yet the Federal government isn't bothered about MRTF which only about 20 people received!

This tells you the kind of country we have.

Well, the new leadership of NARD should be strategic in planning. NMA as well as MDCAN have always benefited from NARD strike but they hardly show solidarity.

We hope for a better Nigeria with a better healthcare system where the people and the government work in synergy towards healthcare delivery.

Resident Doctors Strike is not peculiar to Nigeria alone, for those that like attacking Nigerian doctors, see the attached bellow.
