Too bad he’s not even a Nigerian. I don almost dey type my congratulations north. But how did Gurnah win the award over Ngugi Wa Thiongo. Is it unto that man dies like Achebe them go remember am.

Competition for Nobel prices are very very stiff.

Wa thiongo, and Achebe are just two of many brilliant African writers that have never won a Nobel.

Abdulrazak Gurnah was born on 20 December 1948[2] in the Sultanate of Zanzibar (now part of present-day Tanzania).[3] He went to Britain as a student in 1968,[4] after fleeing Zanzibar at 18 to escape persecution of Arab citizens during the Zanzibar Revolution.[5] He initially studied at Christ Church College, Canterbury, whose degrees were at the time awarded by the University of London.[6]

He then moved to the University of Kent, where he earned his PhD in 1982.[3] From 1980 to 1983, Gurnah lectured at the Bayero University Kano in Nigeria. He was a professor and the director of graduate studies at the University of Kent's department of English until his retirement.[5][additional citation(s) needed] His main academic interest is in postcolonial writing and in discourses associated with colonialism, especially as they relate to Africa, the Caribbean and India.

First the quantity of hate you carry knows no bounds
Secondly don't gloat he taught in bayero for just 2 years... I wonder why he left so soon.
Thirdly this buttresses the fact that success has many friends
Fourthly this is a win for Nigeria don't use it to cause a tribal war again. Nigeria is already too divided stop encouraging the division the more. Ohhh he isn't even a Nigerian so why the hate then??
Peace be with you
