The Constitution doesn't prohibit the use of firearms. It authorises the police to issue licenses for it. However Buhari has ordered them to stop issuing licenses by executive order.

So the pressure should be on Buhari to reverse this moratorium immediately.

What CAN is calling for would indeed be suicidal in a nation that is battling poverty and all sorts of menace. Even America today with their strong institutional system are facing the consequences of granting gun license to individuals. What do you think will happen if that is done in a lawless country like Nigeria where almost everyone is driven by criminal intent.
I think a better solution would be to allow for effective state policing, if possible local policing too at the local government level.

Even if you don't like Peter Obi
For your own safety vote for him

Tinubu would have been a good leader but now is the wrong time cos age is seriously against him
he may have good intentions for the country but he may not be able to deliver.
He may just be a picture president
And criminals will keep looting and insecurity may go out of control.
Before you vote think carefully

Atiku is also a good candidate but may not be able to control his Fulani brothers so one can say Nigerians should expect double of what you are seeing now if he eventually get into office.
Think before you vote.

Vote for the safety of Nigeria
Someone needs to balance this country before it is too late.

Tooth for tooth, eye for an eye.

Good reasoning from CAN.!!

Stupidity where one should find wisdom, abeg who are the people with whom you want to figjt eye for an eye, is it facelace unknown terrorists or you would find victims of innocent people because of their tribe or religious persuasions.

The current Nigerians laws permit the use of firemans for self defense the type of firemans one can acquire, the process of acquisition and the procedures expected for it's safe storage and other matters are well documented in the firearms law which is freely available if you can be bothered to search google.
CAN think they can bully the government into allowing all jack and Jane to posses full/semi-automatic riffles with a cartridge larger than .22 Calibre which the laws currently permits

In Nigeria?!

Thay will be SUICIDAL.

Nigga please. You talk as if guns weren’t once licensed for people here? In fact, Nigeria was far more peaceful when there was license for guns until Buhari canceled that a couple of years ago and instructed everyone to submit the ones in their possession to the police.

No. I don't support that because of Abuse of previledges.

Take a look at what is happening in US now......

How can we relate to lawless country as ours?

Guns are still licenced for people here, you can own a long gun with a caliber of .22 or less, you can own a shotgun style riffle, you can not own a gun capable of concealment i.e Pistol/sub-machine gun, you can not own a fully automatic riffle, or any long gun with a cartridge of .23 or greater so no Ak47 style / battle riffles can be owned by civilians.

There is a firemans act/law many private Nigerian citizens own guns. Talk to your local DPO about how to legally acquire one and the prerequisites.

I don't really think legalisation of firearms will work in Nigeria with the amount of mentally deranged, unstable and frustrated people out there, if it ever happens the crime rate and death rate will be worse than anything, people will use that opportunity to indulge in crimes and infact the shootings that is happening in the USA will be a child play compare to what will happen in Nigeria.

It's not that simple. The reason why most people carry out crime is because they know they people (their victims) are sitting targets.

If you are going to rob a house and you know the people there have rifles and you have no idea the number of riffles in the neighborhood. You will think twice b4 carrying out the robbery. If you eventually go out for the robbery, you won't be able to escape the neighborhood alive.

The USA shootings, how many escaped ? Majority of them died in the act. Those that didn't were apprehended. The attacks are more like suicide.

The only sensible reasoning against firearms legalization in Nigeria is that "Nigeria is too corrupt". Only less sophisticated guns will get to the ordinary people. The high caliber ones will be giving to their thugs (boys) which will make sure they can still carry out their missions.

Nobody has been asked to turn in their guns, and licences continue to be issued. Many owners however have not fulfilled the requirements to keep their licences and many just don't have one.

We are not voting Peter Obi. The man is corrupt that is evident in the Pandora papers and his defence of it on the media is the most shameless I've ever.
Tells you how inept ICPC and EFCC are not to go after what is clearly a breaking of set out laws.

Alright thanks. I will seek for more information. I doubt the cooperation of the police to make it a seamless experience though, even when requirements are met. Between who issues the gun (they the police or one gets referred to a merchant)?

at least for legal cooperative organization masjids, churches should be able to aquire firearms,
these terrorists have caused lot of havoc in worship places mostly catching their victims unaware.

The constitution doesn't allow concealed carry pistol as far as I know. No one wants to be carrying around a shotgun.

Legalization of firearms will serve no one good.

CAN, MURIC & other religious bodies are just playing on the gullibility of their uninformed followers & only the uninformed take them serious & still listen to them.

CAN is so confused. The US that legalises guns is still looking for a way round it. Lot of people, probably including you saying "yes" to it, will be a victim of irrational use of gun. You better think twice.

Sad that CAN has forgotten their most potent weapon which is prayer and living in peace to the use of gun and total violence.

That's how Isreal of a country think. They dont pray to God for protection. God has already protected them when his dash them brain. It was left for present day Isreal to use their brain and build a security system that now protect their country. That's God way of answering Isreal prayer. But my people here want angel to start firing thunder and fire on terrorist
