They are not related. Yoruba thrones usually have different families/ bloodlines that have claims to them.

So they become kings in turns. When one king dies the next family will bring one person that will ascend the throne considering things like education, wealth age and character.

That is why the current Ooni can be a King while his biological father is still alive.
