I've stopped taking Suella Braverman and her people at HO seriously. They like making noise about student visas and asylum seekers as a way to keep reminding their fans "hey we're still here and doing our job" and to keep giving the media something to write about. Like someone said, it's all politics. Same strategy employed by Priti Patel in her days.

They themselves know that any drastic move with student route will drastically affect their education and economy as the EU market isn't available again. They know it's a delicate situation but then again how else could they woo electorates to their side if not by telling them what they like to hear?

So true. ..... we need to start writing list of noise makers

In my experience, it didnt. Though i only applied for a new one 1 full year into my Amex journey. got into barclaycard when they were running double welcome bonus and i couldnt resist.

but if a higher limit is your only target, you can apply to increase your amex limit every 90 days by up to X3 built mine from 1k to 5k and then afterwards, they started writing to me offering limit increases without me needing to apply.

The statistics shows there are more Chinese International students(100k plus) compared to the other nationals. These group of student's are young chaps and have just a few dependents hence their plan to ban students on 1yr courses from bringing in dependents.

They must have studied the trend (esp with Nigerians and Indians more like to switch and abandon their studies, thereby affecting the universities projected income ) and seen that their main target market(China) will not be affected.

We learn everyday. I didn't realise I could apply for limit increase. Thought I would be offered like most Cards. I saw your post and applied to increase to £10k and it was granted. Now I don't have to struggle to stay below 25%.

Need to plan to use my points. I have over 100k points and a Companion Voucher. With this, I can travel to Dubai or further with my family for FREE.

Last week, I stayed at a lovely hotel and got £75 refund based on the offer on the AMEX Card.

Lastly, I don't know if it's a special offer but if you use my code, you get 8,000 points while I get 6,000:

Just do a pre approval eligibility test....... So you're certain to get another...... You can sign up for another......

Try lenders with better interest rates, they offer better limits.......

How does one do the pre approval eligibility test? I'm about applying for a CC and I wouldn't want to apply without first confirming I'd get it. Don't want any hits on my file.

Na Code 84 dem issue you be that, If you can screenshot the ticket, I can help interpret to you as I partially work as a civil enforcement officer . Where did you get the ticket? I hope I wasn’t the one who issued you 😹. You always get 11mins grace before an officer can issue the ticket. Seems you totally forgot. Best to use ringo for payment as it would always notify you by phone before expiry and once it’s expired and can be renew on your mobile

Edited: I just read that it’s a private car park and not council owned. I might not be able to help though .the picture attached isn’t bold enough for me to read.
lightnlife:
£50

That's how much I've been fined for overstaying in a private carpark cry

I don go forgot myself now. Usually, I set reminders to exit the park but not this time.

But what's disturbing is that Parking Charge notice stated that the £50 fee can be reduced if I pay within 14 days but the quoted discounted fee is £85. What an absurdity!

I've called the company but the line are just automated prompts. The company, Highview Parking's review on Google is poor with many complaining of inaccessibility.

I guess the deal is to pay the £50! Lesson learnt.

If you are registered on Experian, Totally Money or Equifax, you can log on there to check your eligibility. Most CC companies allow you to check your eligibility before applying. cheesy

Before trying though ensure you have registered on the electoral roll, been paying bills via direct debit ....these could come in handy in them seeing you on the financial space cheesy

You can try it with my referral link https://americanexpress.com/en-gb/referral/tEMItOhbvx?XL=MNANS kiss

One challenge though with the post on coursementor, it appears to be like those desperate 9ja blog! #sensational
One will not the the 'emphasis' on Tier 4 and Tier 2!!
The reality is that the conditions of Tier 2 ain't same as Skilled Worker, nor those of Tier 4 the same as Student visa.
For noting, YouKay Gov does not list student visa as one of the restricted visa type for switching to Skilled Worker. https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa/switch-to-this-visa

Well it popped up on my feed and decided to share. Better to be informed, thsts why I added a "do your checks" caveat for is planning to do this.

The article doesn't quote any official source(s), however I wouldn't put it past HO. They might implement it without the headlines, and like Bourne said they can act retrospectively if they want. The courts/judges in recent years largely tend to follow the policies set or revised by HO unless there's a clear cut case of human rights violation

I expect they will be forced to act when the net migration figures are released next week which are largely expected to be around 700k, possibly more. It is difficult to overstate how alarming these numbers are to their base and a large part of the country. For context, it's much higher than when Blair was (/is still) blamed for inviting all of Eastern Europe to the UK back around 2004. There were bitter complaints when the migration figures hovered around a mere 200k when we were still in the EU, and this was one of the key catalysts for brexit.

They won't make sweeping changes as that will disproportionately affect other student groups like the Chinese. But as iyatrustee said, they know that certain changes, such as banning dependants on a 1 yr course, will mainly affect targeted groups who they see as abusing the system and pushing up the migration figures.

Especially now that the media/ public appears to have cottoned on that the boat crossings numbers are a drop in the ocean compared to the current levels of legal migration, so they can't keep flinging that dead cat as a distraction tactic.

Hi All, 2 things. I currently moved form one skilled worker visa to another. According to gov.uk, my family don't seem to have to reapply since they still have visa from my previous employer. Some people say they have to re-apply for another visa, others say it doesn't matter. I feel they need not according to my interpretation on gov.uk. But maybe we misunderstood. Can some one advise. Secondly, I can link you to where affordable snails are available if based in coventry.
They don't need to switch with you. The only thing is if the previous one was 3 years and now you got 5 years then after the end of their 3 years then can go collectvthe remaining 2 years as your dependant.

Good morning people,

Please what’s the procedure for getting a Nigerian passport for a child born in the U.K.?
Do they need the mandatory NIN like adults or can theirs be done without it as minors?
Thanks

I agree with you that at some point, certain changes must be made to reduce the rising number. However, each option they have puts them in a dicey situation which has forced them to tread with caution.

Remember, apart from Brexit, there's a reason all these perks (2 years post study, bringing in dependents) were implemented in the first place. They were losing a great deal of their market share to Canada, Australia and some other countries after Theresa May reduced post graduate stay length that time.

Now that have regained the traction, if they allow only students on top courses to bring dependents, they'll lose many students who'd rather choose other destinations or remain in their home countries rather than learning their dependents behind.

If they limit it to only top ranking universities, the same would happen. And the mid and low ranking schools would not want that.

If they stop or reduce post study Visa to six months, same would happen.

And this lost of Market share to other destinations could be significantly high. Unfortunately for them, the Home Office want to reduce migration but the education sector don't seem to be ready to lose out on revenues from international markets.

It's a case of wanting to eat your cake and still have it. If they really want to reduce the student migration, perhaps they should start reducing the number of students each school can enrol in a year. Cutting international enrollment will automatically reduce number of dependents.

One trend I've noticed with many UK postgraduate schools is they they seem to prioritize money above quality. Many of them are opening annexes to enrol more students, getting not so competent lecturers on contracts, churning out degrees year in year out. If the government's is ready to really cut migration, they should start from there.
